00:00so i we're talking about the bam out of bayou game last night where he had 83 points and just
00:07the way that they got him the 83 if they were i mean just hunting to get him the points
00:15i i never
00:16liked that right that's that's that's the only thing i didn't like about i mean if a guy's gonna
00:20go off on a heater and he can't miss or whatever that's fine you know keep him in the game
00:25i get
00:25all that but to intentionally foul just to get the ball back so you can it just it just it
00:32stinks
00:32now some of that's up to the opposition as well to to stop fouling him and putting him at the
00:37line
00:3843 43 three-point attempts is insane what did that two cuts say 13 percent yes of his total free
00:46throws on the season came last night right he averaged 4.7 free throws a game and he went off
00:53for 43 attempts yes now part of the last night was the uh the really good second year player
00:58cole where didn't play last night and he's one of their other big guys so maybe that has something
01:04to do with why bam got off to a really good start and they just said what the hell he's
01:07on a heater
01:08let's go well that and uh simone fantacchio was was there to to help him out too just in case
01:16i thought
01:17he would have taken the night off to watch his italian team beat the united states in the world
01:20baseball class so maybe he was gonna play he's gonna find he's he's an athlete he's actually
01:25from italy he should be able to play i'm saying michael lorenzen come on really i don't know what
01:32his parents from italy i don't know no they're not you've looked this up you've done the deep dive
01:37yes their catcher teal who got hurt he's in the white socks yeah he grew up in a suburban
01:43new jersey what i'm not surprised that he grew up there but i think he worked at the olive garden
01:48when he was young well there you go yeah there you go what's the problem stoning it's a joke
01:53you should at least be born there or your parents be born there and that's it one generation you're
01:59allowed all right nobody cares about the world baseball well actually we do now that we lost
02:04do we i don't know some people do we care i don't i mean i think it's interesting with that
02:09uh
02:11the manager of the team didn't even know he thought they were in before the game he's going on a
02:16pre-game show talking about it he's like well you know we've already advanced to the round like no
02:20you haven't so he knew going into the game once the once he left the interview wait a minute we
02:24we're nothing's guaranteed people were complaining that you know who's it bregman was out and somebody
02:30else has taken out of the starting line price harper i'm like okay all right but understand gunner
02:34henderson was in and he had a home run so the rest of your team is still comprised of nothing
02:40but
02:40all-stars you should have been able to beat italy all due respect to you know benny pazienza or
02:48whoever else is playing on the team steve balboni and who's who's the real player though uh pass
02:54continuo right there was actually there all due respect to that i mean you should be able to beat
02:59that team and they didn't they got down eight nothing in the game and stormed back to make it eight
03:03six and now they may not advance um because it's not in their hands anymore now they need some help
03:08uh which is interesting but it's the world baseball classic hey people don't really care
03:13look and the thing with with with bam i it's just i don't want to heat i don't want to
03:19hear anything
03:19more ever again about heat culture that is so anti-miami heat to feed one guy that much
03:28where he'd score that many points is it i think so i think the miami heat culture is all about
03:33you
03:33know team and you know toughness and all maybe i guess i'm just going through the history and
03:38thinking that for years and all they had was dwayne wade and dwayne wade was going to get all the
03:41points and then of course somebody took their talents to south beach and they were able to win
03:44a championship right there and uh but you know generally speaking it seems like it's a different
03:50group yeah the thing i find wild about this is that it's bam out of bio that did it right
03:54that
03:54they got okay he's he gets off to a good start i don't know what he had at halftime he's
03:59a very
04:00good player but that's about it yeah but then they they made a conscious decision say let's let's
04:05try to get him can we get to 70 oh we did can we get to eight can we get
04:09to kobe at 81 and that's
04:11where i think you start to lose a lot of basketball fans on this because basketball fans they take kobe
04:16seriously yes and like you know may he rest in peace and and do not mess with that number 81
04:22that
04:22he put up that magical night and here he goes for 83 and trumps kobe and he does it by
04:28getting to
04:29the line unethical scoring as we we say on the show all the time um but it got me thinking
04:35about
04:35other guys that have had that crazy night statistically that you never saw coming right
04:41we got in the pistons right malachi flynn right malachi friend flynn as you said yes uh there was
04:47the performance that matt flynn the quarterback for the packers turned in against the lions the last
04:52game of the year several years many years ago uh at green bay where he threw for like 500 yards
04:58and
04:58six touchdowns or something stafford had an amazing game for the lions but it didn't matter
05:03because matt flynn trumped it and then he got this big contract to play out west that he never really
05:08played after that because they drafted russell wilson with in the third round yeah the other one that
05:12came to mind for me was like where did this come from i think wasn't it mark witten that had
05:17four
05:18home runs in a game yes and in like the 90s i was like mark witten yeah mark witten the
05:24former like
05:25cleveland indian at the time i forget was he playing with texas or somebody and hit the the five
05:30the the four home runs in the game like mark witten did that i don't know mark witten ever hit
05:3630 in a
05:36season he hit four in one game but these are like some statistical anomalations that people will have
05:43during games and and bam out of bayou last night you know you get on a heater you score 50
05:49and then all
05:49of a sudden people how high can we get you and then you start you know really going after it
05:54and
05:55and force feeding it um but to send him to the line 43 times people aren't going to be happy
06:01with that
06:01no and you look there's there's another big record in the nba that will be probably set tomorrow night
06:09where shag gilgis alexander he was probably going to get his 127th consecutive game where he scores 20 or
06:19more points he tied will chamberlain the other day and everybody likes to like compare eras and
06:26things like that and it's it's it's on it's impossible it's unfair to eat to both sides but
06:31you know for those who say oh you know it's in the old days you know they're not as good
06:36and all that
06:36stuff and that might be true okay however how about these little stats back when oh here we go when
06:45wilt did it okay more stare to the day from stoney okay in the 126 games and wilt scored 20
06:50or more
06:51consecutive points 17 were in back-to-backs 13 were in back-to-back-to-backs two were in back
07:01-to-back-to-backs
07:02and two more were in back-to-back-to-back-to-backs wow five and in one of those five
07:09straight nights
07:10five straight games and there's a uh basketball local historian that i follow keith black trudeau
07:16who pointed out that in in those days in those days what's so funny
07:25that's what his handle is you have a black an nba historian that you're following in keith black
07:32drudeau anyway and i it's a good twitter follow he really is and how about this in
07:40january 17th well i think it was 1962 when this took place january 18th january 19th in three of
07:47those games consecutives he had 53 minutes 62 points and 23 rebounds against the hawks the game was played
07:56in detroit the following what hold on the following night he against the cincinnati royals 48 minutes
08:03for wilt 54 points 31 rebounds that game was played in philadelphia he played in philadelphia philadelphia
08:10the following night so the back-to-back-to-back versus the pistons that game was played in boston
08:1748 minutes 53 points and 21 rebounds okay i i have a question okay i'll give you the answer because
08:27i
08:27remember going not to these particular games oh my god i thought you were serious because i was around
08:34then um what in the hell what i'm sorry you're you have two teams playing in a neutral site i
08:41don't know
08:42when it stopped but when i was a kid even at the spectrum when it was new so that was
08:47in the
08:47early 70s they used to have double headers and i would go see the celtics would play the like the
08:55san diego ride they play like expansion teams you know against the good teams the celtics would play
09:00the san diego rockets at 5 or 5 30 and the sixers would play whoever they were scheduled to play
09:05the
09:06next game and that was that was regular season regular season it was commonplace they i think each
09:11team had like i don't know five or six of those a year or something like that that sounds kind
09:15of nuts
09:16it's weird that's kind of you mentioned 53 minutes so i'm assuming that was an overtime yeah uh yeah
09:22i mean with different you talk about different areas yeah i mean will chamberlain was seven feet
09:26tall taking on the you know guys are six foot seven yeah so that's different and it's different today
09:30when they have a three-point line that they didn't have back then exactly something's even out okay
09:35what's your take on out of bios 83 because i know you're a massive kobe fan yeah massive kobe fan
09:40big
09:41nba guy i think in totality 83 is 83 like that's an impressive number no matter how you get it
09:48done
09:48in an nba game with that being said i do think it's tainted because of how in the end it
09:54happened
09:55the first quarter fire second quarter fire still third quarter i think he had like 60 some points by
10:02the end of three all ethical i don't care if it came from a lot from the foul line because
10:05they were
10:06playing a real game during that time right where it kind of stopped becoming a real game was the last
10:11three four five minutes of that game where the intentional missing a free throw and then fouling
10:16to get the ball back is where i don't like it and you're gonna give you're gonna feed the guy
10:22who's
10:22hot who's coming close to whether it's 50 60 or 70 points i get that and you're gonna have to
10:26hog
10:27the ball that's how you can score that many points so i have no problem with any of that stuff
10:30it's the it's the stuff i just mentioned it's the intentional missing of fouls it's
10:34it's fouling you know the wizards just to get the ball back that's the stuff where it became
10:37kind of tainted for me in the end like i said 83 is still impressive because 83 is unbelievable
10:43but no one wants to watch all these free throws and by the way because
10:46he got so much points from the free throw line because he shot under 50 from the field
10:50right he only made what i think was he seven of 13 from three-point range which is actually not
10:55bad for him seven to 22 oh 22 yeah that's terrible he shot terrible from the spree point line
10:59terrible field goals it was all free throws and so in the end
11:03if you look at it like that and it looks not not the greatest but will history go back and
11:08look
11:08at it like that or will they just say bam you know scored 83 points yeah they're not going to
11:11go back
11:12and you know go through the you know all the details of it like i said it was the intentional
11:17missing the free throws and the purposely fouling by the way you don't feel sorry for the wizards
11:21at all they're the worst team in the league they've been actively tanking they couldn't stop
11:25fouling when you just stop fouling double team the man without fouling him and get the ball out of
11:29right either you know this has nothing to do with the wizards as far as my you know angst so
11:35to
11:36speak if you want to use a term i just think it's i think it's cheap yeah he had 83
11:40great good player
11:42all that but you had so much help to get the 83 kind of taints it in my mind that's
11:47all 248-539-9797
11:50is a telephone number same number to text are you upset by what happened last night in the nba
11:55was that was that too much was that going too much or is that truly one of the great remarkable
12:02efforts individually of all time 83 points for bam out of bayou we'll talk about it next year 97-1
12:09you
