00:00The Blues Clues guy followed me back.
00:02I think his name is Steven.
00:03He followed me back on Instagram.
00:05So sick.
00:06Anyways, hi, Teen Vogue.
00:08I'm Alyssa Liu, and these are some of my firsts.
00:15The first time I collaborated was in 2024.
00:19It was to make my Promise by Levee program dress.
00:24I had the idea of it being white,
00:27having the dress be super flowy and very piecey.
00:30And I kind of wanted to be wrapped up,
00:33kind of in like a bandage.
00:34And Lisa kind of brought it to life.
00:36She picked the top design, like the shape of it.
00:39And yeah, that was the first one.
00:41I really, really liked the Stateside program dress.
00:45I love like J-pop idols.
00:47They have that certain style in their dress.
00:50I've seen it before.
00:51Wherever I saw that, I was like,
00:52I need something like that.
00:54Like the puff shoulders and like a tutu skirt.
00:56So someone suggested that song to me.
00:58And so I took a listen and I was like,
01:00yeah, this is definitely better
01:02than all of the other options I have.
01:04And then we start making a program to it.
01:06But then I found the 16 minute suite version
01:08and I was like, this is it.
01:10And so we added a ton of parts of that song into the program.
01:14We changed up the music a bit, edited it around.
01:17And then I had a Gaga program last season for one competition.
01:21But what's most comfortable for me was MacArthur Park.
01:24And I had a new dress idea for it.
01:26And I was like, that'll keep it fresh.
01:27And I think it'll be great at Olympics.
01:30I dyed it three years ago
01:32because I originally wanted raccoon stripes.
01:34But I thought that would be too hard to maintain.
01:36I would have to, it would look really weird growing out.
01:38And so I was like, oh, I'll just do one giant line up here.
01:41And then I did my tips too.
01:42I bleached my tips.
01:43And then a year rolls around and this grew out to here.
01:46And I was like, oh, I want to add another one.
01:48And then it grew out again.
01:49And I was like, I need to add another.
01:51So it's kind of like tradition.
01:53End of the year, I had another one.
01:54I've had red hair before.
01:56It was a dark red.
01:57I've had maroon.
01:58I've had orange.
01:59I wouldn't mind orange again.
02:01Oh my God.
02:01I don't think I even said anything.
02:03I think I was just screaming.
02:05Yeah.
02:05Because there's like a language barrier.
02:07So we communicate through high fives, hugs, smiles, and giggles.
02:11Right now, I would say Body by Don Tolliver.
02:15His new album is, I was listening to it a lot during the Olympics.
02:19I like the vibe of it and his voice is really good.
02:22My personal anthem, definitely passion by Pink Panthers.
02:26I think growing up in the Bay Area just influenced me.
02:30I'd say my friends and just what I saw around me.
02:35And honestly, like art too.
02:36I really love murals and there's a lot of that in Oakland.
02:40Even the graffiti, it's super inspiring.
02:42And I don't know, I feel like it's, yeah, the Bay.
02:44If you were to describe your personal sound, like two to three words, what would it be?
02:48Oh, I think comfortable, mobile, and cute.
02:58My first tattoo is a matching one with my best friend.
03:01It's my only tattoo.
03:02I actually don't have the rings on me.
03:04I want to so bad, but I'm like, I can't think of a placement.
03:07Because I have this weird thing, like I can't get it on one side.
03:10Otherwise, I have to get it on the other side.
03:12Like I have to be symmetrical in that way.
03:15But yeah, my first tattoo, it's like on my back and it's pretty symmetrical.
03:19It's in the middle.
03:21Yeah, but I'm matching with my best friend.
03:22Got it at 18.
03:23Our friend drew it up.
03:24So it's like extra special because of that.
03:27And there's like little bits here and there.
03:29Like if you asked me to draw, I probably couldn't draw it.
03:31I never see it.
03:32I wanted to do a drawing competition with my best friend.
03:35Like who can remember what our tattoo looks like the best?
03:38So it's cybersidualism.
03:41There's bat wings because I really love bats.
03:44I think they're really cool.
03:45And then there's a rose because my best friend, Juju, loves roses.
03:49Super symbolic for them.
03:51And then we have like infinity signs in there.
03:54We're both born in August and like they're eights.
03:57But if you turn around, it's like infinity signs.
03:59So that's like meaningful to us.
04:01And then like those are part of the bat wings.
04:04The rose is like in the middle.
04:06And yeah, and there's, yeah, yeah.
04:08My first lobes were my first piercing.
04:11I got it when I was really young.
04:12I don't even remember how old I was.
04:14I was a baby.
04:15After my first two lobe piercings, I started doing my own.
04:18I did my fenulum.
04:19It's around 10 pain because it's so thin there.
04:22The skin there is thin.
04:23I don't even know if it's skin, I would call it.
04:26But yeah, it's really thin, so it doesn't hurt.
04:29And I got it December of 2022.
04:33So I've had it for a long time.
04:34But you have to be very cautious with this piercing.
04:37You have to take a photo of it like every couple weeks just to keep track of your gums and
04:41stuff
04:41like that and how your teeth are doing.
04:42So far, so good for me.
04:45But gum recession could happen with this piercing.
04:49So you got to just be careful and take it out if your gums are receding.
04:53Obviously, you want to keep your teeth.
04:54I mean, I've always thought about getting my eyebrows pierced, but I have bangs.
04:58So you wouldn't see it anyways.
04:59That's my dilemma.
05:01But yeah, I would love to have my eyebrows pierced.
05:04I don't know.
05:05I haven't really checked my following.
05:08I have no idea.
05:09I just remembered something.
05:10The blues clues guy followed me back.
05:13I think his name is Steven.
05:14He followed me back on Instagram.
05:16So sick.
05:17I was like, what?
05:19Like he was my childhood.
05:22Like two years ago, like when I first came back, it was like a group hangout at her place
05:26in Colorado and we played cards and we ate food together.
05:31It was really fun.
05:32Amber introduced me to Magic the Gathering.
05:35I still don't get it.
05:36That's the thing.
05:37I don't understand it, but I've opened so many packs with her at this point.
05:40And there's always like one really rare card I get.
05:43And she's always like freaking out.
05:45And I'm like, I don't understand this at all.
05:47I still have all of them.
05:49I just don't, I don't know what to do with them.
05:50Like they're just sitting there.
05:53So yeah, I don't know.
05:55Just got to explain it to me more.
05:57You haven't played yet?
05:58No, there's a way to play.
06:00Okay.
06:00Yeah.
06:01See, clearly I'm not in the know.
06:03Probably Flora from Winx Club.
06:06Yeah.
06:07I like her color scheme a lot.
06:09Like the pink and the green.
06:11She's super nice.
06:12And like, I liked her powers and whatnot.
06:15Rot with them.
06:17And also like take them out to eat.
06:21Just go outside with them.
06:23I love going on hikes with my siblings.
06:26Long time ago.
06:27Probably when I was 13.
06:28Yeah.
06:29I think I was like in front of the Oakland city center.
06:31And someone like,
06:33yeah, someone knew me.
06:34I was like, what the heck?
06:35Yeah.
06:36I was like someone outside of the rink.
06:37Well, now it's a lot more.
06:39And it's, it kind of freaks me out.
06:42So I try to take my privacy super seriously.
06:46But yeah, it's a little freaky.
06:48Kim Yoo Na and Michelle Kwon.
06:50I looked up to them because I thought their jumps were very pretty and satisfying.
06:54And I loved Kim Yoo Na's dresses.
06:56And I loved her demeanor.
06:58It's just like, I imagine just them out on the ice.
07:01And especially like, because I really find their jumps so satisfying.
07:04It's mostly about that.
07:09Wakaba Higuchi's Skyfall program.
07:11I love that one.
07:12And Hana Yoshida's Kill Bill program.
07:15Hana Yoshida's Kill Bill program is my favorite right now.
07:18Like with Hana's, her outfit is so cute.
07:20It's like the tracksuit, but in a dress.
07:23And it's adorable.
07:23I've seen it in person a couple of times.
07:25And I love to watch it on YouTube as well.
07:27I've shown a couple of my friends who don't know a thing about skating.
07:29I'm like, watch this program.
07:31When I came back from retirement,
07:32I got my driver's license.
07:34Yeah, I got right on it.
07:36Yeah, they don't make you parallel park,
07:37but I'm great at parallel parking.
07:39So I wanted them to.
07:42Dim Sum.
07:44Xiao Long Bao.
07:46And like, green beans.
07:48I love to get like,
07:49Tsong Yeo Bing.
07:50Tsong Yeo Bing is like, what's it?
07:53It's like a, I don't remember what it's called in English.
07:55It's like a pancake.
07:56Green onion pancake.
07:57I kind of knew after, well,
07:59it took a little bit to really know for sure if I want to return to return.
08:03But I wanted to step onto the ice for the first time after I went skiing.
08:07Because I had a lot of fun skiing.
08:08It's like, if you've ever gone, it's super fun.
08:11The feeling you get is unlike anything else.
08:13But figure skating.
08:14That's the only thing that's similar to.
08:16So I thought, oh, maybe I'll step out on the ice again, try it out.
08:19And yeah, it was really similar to skiing.
08:22Believe it or not.
08:23You're gliding, you're cold, your legs hurt.
08:26It's great.
08:26I mean, it was really easy to assert that because I was confident in myself.
08:30I knew what I wanted.
08:31And the team that I picked also knew me very well, knew what I wanted.
08:35And they're very respectful and they trust me.
08:39So it was not hard to get used to.
08:43Thanks, Teen Vogue, for having me.
