00:00My favorite line is, my swag is serious.
00:04I'm heavy like a first date period.
00:06Awesome.
00:08Awesome, like bring that back.
00:10Shakespeare could never, really.
00:13Janet Jackson could have written Romeo and Juliet,
00:16could have like conjured that up,
00:18but could he have written that?
00:19I don't know.
00:20Hi Teen Vogue, I'm Adela,
00:22and this is the playlist of my life.
00:26This feels like a test.
00:30Resentment, it didn't fit.
00:32My first song is Resentment by Beyonce,
00:35and if I make any spelling mistakes,
00:39I'm an immigrant, you can't say anything.
00:42Yes, she goes crazy, she's like belting super high,
00:46and then she goes quiet, she goes,
00:48I know she was attractive.
00:50And then she would like do this live,
00:53and the crowd would laugh, and I would love to,
00:55because she wasn't more attractive than Beyonce.
00:57Come on.
00:58This was the first song, I think,
00:59that I became obsessed with, that is by Beyonce.
01:03I'm a big Beehive member.
01:05Like I'm very much in it.
01:07I'm with the working bees, I'm one of them.
01:09I think I was maybe like 10, when I found this song,
01:11and I remember hearing these harmony stacks that she did,
01:17and they go,
01:17you lied, you lied,
01:21and I just wanted to like stack them myself.
01:23So I went on GarageBand, and I was like,
01:26let me do that.
01:27So I didn't, I'm not gonna lie to you,
01:29it didn't sound anything like her,
01:31and I was like, why is this not like Beyonce?
01:33It sounded like .
01:34It wasn't harmony, it was dissonance,
01:36it was like the opposite of what I was supposed to do,
01:37but hey, it was my first time.
01:39She basically got me into like harmony, sax,
01:41and vocal arrangement, because she's the master of that.
01:44So, love you Beyonce, love you so much.
01:47So, on my debut album, and on my EP,
01:50I really, my voice is the only instrument that I have,
01:53which is unfortunate, I'm trying to learn piano soon,
01:57but, coming soon.
02:01Me on piano, coming soon.
02:02So, when I was a kid, how I could make songs,
02:05and how I could like, do covers,
02:08if I didn't want to do a karaoke track,
02:10was with my voice, so I had a looper,
02:12and I looped my voice, and got really good at harmonies,
02:15and so, it's all over my EP, all over my album.
02:20There's a ballad on the album called Hitachi,
02:24that actually starts with a harmony stack,
02:28and it's like, that's the main instrumental
02:30for like, the first maybe kind of half of the song,
02:33and then it's just my voice, and like, piano and strings.
02:36Those songs to me, even as a kid,
02:38like whenever a pop girl would do that,
02:40I was like, that's my song,
02:41because I just love hearing a voice.
02:43I'll do a different approach.
02:47Human Nature by Madonna.
03:00I think I was maybe 14,
03:02when I heard this for the first time.
03:04My gay best friend at the time,
03:07put me on to Madonna,
03:08because obviously the gays are always ahead of me,
03:11and of everybody else.
03:12So, he was like, have you ever heard of this gal, Madonna?
03:15I was like, yes, I've heard.
03:18My grandma has a poster of her in her bathroom,
03:21which is above the toilet, which is really weird,
03:24but like, that's just what that was.
03:26And he was like, she is fabulous,
03:28obviously she's a legend,
03:29and so I remember listening to this song for the first time,
03:31and I was like, mind blown, even just by the start.
03:36Like, express yourself, tell me, press yourself.
03:40I just might.
03:42Like, it was too good.
03:43And then, I saw the music video,
03:46and I think that's one of the best music videos ever created.
03:48So, this had a major impact,
03:50because I was just like, the visual, the simplicity of it,
03:53the black and the white.
03:55Suddenly, her in like, black hair,
03:57like she was a blonde for so long.
03:59It was just too, I was like, mesmerized by it.
04:01She was so ahead of her time.
04:03It kind of still blows my mind.
04:05Like, watching Truth or Dare,
04:08and like, watching any interviews with her,
04:09and listening to her music is just so wild,
04:14because I feel like people,
04:17like, this might have enraged people even now.
04:19You know what I mean?
04:20Like, the sex book.
04:21Like, people would be so scared
04:23if a pop girl released that now.
04:25And so, the fact that she was doing that at the time
04:27was insanely boundary pushing.
04:29I mean, Sabrina Carpenter could release this right now,
04:31and it would stand.
04:32The message would stand.
04:33I love the weird, like, courtroom, what's it called?
04:38Courtroom gavel sound.
04:39It's like, oops, I didn't know
04:40I couldn't talk about sex.
04:45So funny.
04:46It's like, why did you do that?
04:48It's awesome.
04:49I love it.
04:50This one is awesome,
04:51as are all the rest of them.
04:54Touch it on a black day.
05:04So, I've been an orientator
05:06since I was nine years old, I think.
05:08This was actually the only album
05:11that I had on my iPod touch.
05:14And I literally only listened to this album,
05:17I think, that entire year when it came out.
05:19And I remember being so mesmerized by this song
05:21because it felt so emotional.
05:25And it has this crazy high note,
05:27and then it has these whistle notes at the end.
05:30And I was just like, man, she's just the greatest.
05:34I love this woman.
05:35And she had the bunny mask on and the ponytail,
05:38and I was just mesmerized by it.
05:40And then I would just blast it.
05:42Full volume.
05:43Super high vocals.
05:45Bad for your ears.
05:46I have tinnitus now.
05:47But it's awesome.
06:01This one I heard when I was like 17.
06:04I feel like as my life went on,
06:07I kept digging further and further back.
06:10But then later in my life,
06:11I got into like the Madonnas, the Janets,
06:13the like pillars of pop.
06:15Crick it up, give it to me, come on.
06:17Crick it up, give it to me, come on.
06:18I was just like, so good.
06:20And again, starts with light skin, dark skin,
06:25my Asian persuasion.
06:26And the drums, they want to make you dance.
06:29Everything is just like,
06:31I was like, this is .
06:32This is disgusting.
06:34And like the best way possible.
06:36Like in the biggest compliment ever.
06:37My favorite line is,
06:39my swag is serious.
06:41I'm heavy like a first date period.
06:44Awesome.
06:46Awesome.
06:46Like bring that back.
06:48Shakespeare could never.
06:49Really.
06:50Janet Jackson could have,
06:52could have written Romeo and Juliet.
06:54Could have like conjured that up.
06:56But could he have written that?
06:57I don't know.
06:58No, I'm serious.
06:59It's really good.
07:00Oh, my life.
07:02my life.
07:04Kiss the prince.
07:14You don't have to be beautiful.
07:18First time I heard this song,
07:20I was quite young.
07:22I think it was on a night
07:24when my dad showed me
07:28Prince's Super Bowl performance
07:30performance of purple rain.
07:32And I literally teared up.
07:35And then it rained also.
07:37And then it stopped raining.
07:38And the entire CD,
07:39I was singing it back to him.
07:40And then I was like,
07:41who is this guy Prince?
07:43And then I made sure to look up more of his stuff.
07:48Cause I was like,
07:49man, this guy rocks.
07:51It's really awesome.
07:52Thinking back to when you didn't know like these legends,
07:54it's really,
07:55it's really comical.
07:56But yeah,
07:57little girl from Slovakia was really with him heavy.
08:00And then I found kiss.
08:02And immediately I was hooked because the first thing he does is moans.
08:05And so I was like,
08:06what the ?
08:07And then I was obsessed.
08:09I think it's the perfect pop song.
08:11I know I'm saying that about all of these,
08:13but maybe this one is like actually really the perfect pop song.
08:16Cause the,
08:18kiss.
08:20Too good.
08:21Like he kissed me.
08:22He kissed me.
08:23I was like,
08:24whoa man.
08:25That's awesome.
08:26I think actually he wrote it for somebody else originally.
08:29He might've like given it to his guitarist or something.
08:32And then he took it back.
08:34Cause he was like,
08:34this is too good.
08:35What I really love is how restrained he is when he sings it.
08:41Cause it feels like you're on the edge of like wanting to kiss somebody.
08:46And so it's like the end he goes crazy.
08:49And he like screams at the end.
08:51I don't know why I said it like that.
08:52But he does.
08:53And it's awesome.
08:54And that was also like one of my first times hearing a pop song and being like,
08:59the performance is so about the emotion.
09:03It's not about like hitting the note perfect or like doing a crazy run.
09:06It's like,
09:07it came from the way that he was feeling and he sound,
09:11he's screaming at the end.
09:13It's not like a regular pop vocal,
09:14but it just,
09:15it made me feel so much.
09:16Oh,
09:16f**k.
09:21Okay.
09:37First time I heard it, I think it was definitely in elementary school.
09:40My best friend at the time had it on her little like Nokia and like an illegal MP3 download.
09:47And she was like,
09:48you've got to listen to this.
09:50And I was like,
09:50okay.
09:51I listened to it.
09:52And I was like,
09:54what is happening?
09:55And then I like,
09:56didn't really f**k with it.
09:57Honestly,
09:58until like,
09:59I went back to that album like three years ago.
10:03And I was like,
10:04this is maybe the best song of all time.
10:07Because I also was in elementary school,
10:09school again,
10:11couldn't speak English.
10:12So I was like,
10:13this was just a bunch of noise to me.
10:15And then I heard the line suck my cockiness,
10:17like my persuasion.
10:19And I was like,
10:20I really wish I wrote that line.
10:22Like I really,
10:23really wish I did.
10:23The song is,
10:24I think one of the most danceable songs ever.
10:26Like if you can dance,
10:28you take your heels specifically for like heels,
10:31like getting really hot in the studio alone,
10:34sweaty,
10:36a tiny short heel,
10:38a hoodie,
10:40put the song on and you will feel your oats.
10:43There's some people that I have,
10:44like they're an entity to me.
10:46Like they're,
10:46they're not a human and she's one of those.
10:48Like she's an entity.
10:49And she's like,
10:50she has this mystery around her.
10:52And then I saw her in real life.
10:53And I,
10:53I buckled under the pressure.
10:54I wasn't able to say anything.
10:58That sucks.
10:59That just sucks.
11:00Doesn't it?
11:00Okay.
11:05This song makes me want to body.
11:15First time I heard this one was when I saw the video when it came out.
11:18I was 10 when this came out.
11:20A lot of these songs are from when I was 10.
11:21I'm realizing.
11:22My first memory was watching the video and Miley was,
11:27I think in a milk bath of sorts.
11:30And she also had,
11:32I remember specifically,
11:33she had black nails that I was obsessed with.
11:35Cause at when you're 10,
11:36all you want to do is get like your nails done.
11:39And my mom wouldn't let me have long nails.
11:41So I would grow mine out.
11:42And then they would always just break.
11:44Cause I'm a kid and I'm like doing bullshit.
11:45I love Miley Cyrus's voice.
11:48She has one of my favorite voices of all time.
11:50This is the ballad on the album.
11:52And, but it also has like flowing nature.
11:56Like the song doesn't necessarily like climax anywhere.
11:59There's not like a big like aha moment,
12:01but the journey, it's just so good.
12:03Like it's, there's just such a good flow.
12:05I love the melody.
12:06I did see it live.
12:07I went to the banger's tour.
12:09Me and my entire family,
12:10we sat our down and we watched that show.
12:14It was awesome.
12:15My mom actually,
12:15I've been a long time fan of Miley's,
12:17but my mom never really enjoyed Hannah Montana,
12:19but she contrary to most parents started fucking with her.
12:24When like we can't stop came out.
12:26And so she was like,
12:26now I approve of you.
12:29My young daughter standing Miley Cyrus is when she's getting wild.
12:34And they loved it.
12:35My dad says that it's like one of the best concerts he's ever been to.
12:37It was.
12:38They're awesome, I guess, in that regard.
12:40But then when it comes to me and I do wild things in my art,
12:43obviously like for your parents kind of like,
12:45man, did you have to do that?
12:47But then I use this as an example.
12:50I'm like, remember bangers?
12:52You guys remember how much you liked that?
12:55Like if I wasn't your daughter,
12:56wouldn't you think this was cool?
12:58And they're like, you're right.
13:00So, hey.
13:01And that is the playlist of my life.
13:04Thank you, Teen Vogue.
