00:04I did some training for it, physically. The suit is not my body at all, but underneath the suit, I
00:12got pretty big and strong, and I wanted to lift a lot of weight to be able to feel like
00:18I could punch people in the face and it would really be effective.
00:22So I did that physical stuff, and then on top of that, the whole thing is like you're putting on
00:30tons of prosthetics. The whole face is a mask, you have horns, you have lots of hair, you got a
00:36teeth piece, you got yellow eyes, you have a whole body, you have a right fist of doom, and so
00:42I couldn't put the makeup on every day because it costs so much money for them to get everybody together
00:48and put their makeup on.
00:49So I went to a sporting goods store in New York where I live, and I bought a bunch of
00:56hockey gear and a bunch of shin guards, and I fashioned a homemade and some saucer cups thing on my
01:05head and a big horrible wig,
01:07and I fashioned a homemade Hellboy suit, which I wore in my apartment for like a month at various points
01:15in the day just to like feel how he moved and like how he, you know, to feel all this
01:22stuff.
01:22And I even put some stuff on my face to feel the weight of my expression because it was under
01:27all the silicone, so I would feel how I had to strengthen the cheek muscle, which is very important in
01:32the Hellboy performance.
01:34So I did like a lot of work, and then I went to work like psychologically on like a lot
01:38of his story about how he's an orphan and how he, how he speak, English is his second language,
01:45and how he, how he has problems with finding his voice in general as a kind of metaphor and, you
01:52know, just issues with his father and issues with being an outcast from society
01:57and, and issues with his genetics being different from his conscious mind and his genetics predisposing him to bring about
02:06the end of the universe and be a bad guy
02:08and his consciousness wanting to be a good guy and wanting to do the right thing, and so I went
02:13to work on a lot of those things too.
02:14So yeah, it was, it was hard, but of course it's like super fun work.
02:18I'm so grateful that I get to play this guy, and I just loved every minute of it, really.
