00:07It was definitely a learning experience.
00:09You read the script, you read the story of this family
00:12and you kind of have a very different perspective of this person
00:16and it was very interesting to sort of come into her shoes in a sense.
00:19With shaving your head and eyebrows, it gave me sort of a toughness.
00:23I kind of had to build up a blockage between the way that, you know,
00:27I had to perceive myself and the way that people would look at me.
00:29You know, there's very different ways that people go about something that scares them,
00:34whether it's to ignore it or to pity it or, you know, to stare at it.
00:39So, you know, it was definitely a learning experience.
00:43And what, you know, to me was the most interesting was that this love of life that Kate has,
00:48that she's never sort of down.
00:51You know, of course there are days here and there,
00:53but her incredible strength and her love for life that she, with death at her door,
00:58she doesn't pay attention to it.
01:00She's with this family.
01:01She's giving them all the love that she has and trying to reconnect them.
01:06And so that was, that was a very sort of empowering role
01:10that let me see this topic from a bunch of different angles
01:14and sort of introduced me to a different side of myself.
01:25Well, we have an incredible makeup artist, Erin Kruger, who did the makeup.
01:29And we had sort of five stages of Kate, which, you know,
01:34from her looking more or less normal to the worst that we see her.
01:40and it could take in from half an hour to three hours.
01:42But the transformation was such a big part of her character.
01:48A lot of people I've heard say that the wardrobe really puts you in character,
01:50but for her it was the makeup.
01:51Because looking at myself in the mirror, I didn't see me anymore.
01:56You know, I saw Kate, in a sense, and it just reminded me to be thankful every day
02:03that this wasn't something that I was going through, even though it felt so close.
02:10All I had to do was be really thankful that we could tell this story
02:14and we could do it justice and we could be raw and face it head on
02:17and not shy away from it.
02:20But we were all okay.
02:21All right.
