00:03A highly respected public servant asked to lead a review into the Bondi terror attack,
00:09overnight announcing an early exit.
00:12I didn't necessarily see my last job of this kind being more of a highly paid researcher.
00:22His expertise valued at up to half a million dollars or $5,000 a day.
00:28Dennis Richardson says his role was surplus to requirements.
00:33I think the destination the Royal Commission gets to will be not much different to the destination
00:40if I had have remained there or if I had have been doing it alone.
00:45In the aftermath of Bondi, Mr Richardson was handpicked to probe the AFP and ASIO to assess
00:51if more could have been done to prevent the murder of 15 people.
00:55He is someone of integrity. He will have enormous power.
00:59But that power was quickly subsumed by the announcement of a Royal Commission after weeks of political pressure.
01:07The Coalition says Dennis Richardson must be involved.
01:12This has to be fixed and it has to be fixed today.
01:15It's now reached a point where I think my value add is pretty limited.
01:19Dennis Richardson is adamant his early departure won't impact the quality of the Royal Commission
01:25or its ability to probe the AFP and ASIO, insisting Australians will be fully informed.
01:33Commissioner Virginia Bell has thanked him for his contribution
01:37and says she's confident the Commission will deliver its interim report on time.
01:42Thank you for joining us at the Royal Commission and's course with the Royal Commission.
01:42And thanks again for joining us.
