00:30I lived in America and was completely overwhelmed and couldn't believe that something so beautiful existed and I had not
00:40ever seen it and stayed for the whole week and saw everything and met Pina and said, we have to
00:46do something together.
00:47Then she started asking me, Vin, when are we going to do this movie you're talking about?
00:52And then I really thought about it and then I had to answer, I'm not really quite sure how to
00:59do it because when I started to consider how to film a dance theater I realized I didn't know how.
01:08It was very very special and it needed to be filmed in a very special way and I felt I
01:13had not access to it with my film technology. I would not be able to do justice to it.
01:21And one day in 2007 in Cannes I saw, I happened to see the first digital 3D film called U2
01:32in 3D.
01:33And then I visited her and told her about 3D and that I figured that that was the solution to
01:40my problem and the solution to how the camera could conquer the very space of the dancers.
01:53And it took a little while then because I started to learn about 3D and realized technology was not quite
02:01there.
02:02We had to wait two more years until we could actually start preparing and in 2008 Pina and I started
02:09to prepare.
02:10We decided which of our place we wanted to film.
02:16I wrote a concept on which the two of us were going to make this film together.
