00:09I think it's everything we intended it to be, to recreate feudal Japan.
00:14We were very, very careful and obsessive that we were not doing a 47 Ronin American version.
00:28The level of detail, it's insane.
00:30We have to design it from the shoes, to the clothes, to the makeup, to the hair,
00:35and it's all got to work together.
00:38Penny is fantastic.

00:42She really took the assignment to another level, especially the female characters.

00:49She's taken the authenticity of the period, but put her own flair on it.
00:55I just wanted to start with the base of the shape,
00:57and then build onto it because we're making a fantasy film.
01:03Two things that Penny would create about, strong silhouettes for each of the character designs,
01:08and the color palettes and textures.
01:11Because what Penny wanted to do was really create a look for each person.
01:17So we've done Akko, which is the happy place, in red.
01:21We've done Kira's World, which is the villain ugly place, in purples.
01:26And then the sort of godlike group, the Shogun, our goals, with little hints of turquoise.
01:32Those three elements run through the whole film.
01:35You know immediately who people belong to by the colors they're wearing.
01:41We have stuck absolutely to how these things go on,
01:45which makes it very complicated because you can't do it yourself.
01:48You've always got to have help.
01:49For instance, if you're wearing a kimono, right over left is how you always wear it.
01:55The only time you wear it left over right is when you're buried.
01:58If you tie your kimono in the front, it means you're a prostitute.
02:03So you have to be very, very careful about how you handle every little thing.
02:07And action!
02:09We're filming second unit at night and first unit during the day.
02:14So in any given day, we might dress six or seven hundred.
02:19So they come off one unit, heavy armor, ripped off and stick it on a different body.
02:24But the visual is going to look magnificent.
