00:00Background action.
00:02Well, the fundamental reason why I wanted to make this movie is it feels like a fairy tale,
00:06although this is a very adult version.
00:09So, you know, a young girl meets her prince, he's unavailable, he's successful, fabulous, rich, all of those things.
00:15But it sort of twists and unfolds and becomes something very different.
00:19Oh my god.
00:21But for me, you know, it's also the exploration of this girl on a sexual journey.
00:25You'd use this stuff on me?
00:27Yes.
00:28For her, it's a kind of coming of age
00:30and cinematically, I couldn't think of anything like it.
00:40Sam is so smart. She's so talented.
00:43She's an artist. She is a filmmaker.
00:46She has a vision for every single scene
00:48and what it's going to look like and how she's going to cut it.
00:51How to tell me to not put my face in that direction
00:54because I look terrible, and I'm like, thank you for that.
00:59I think also maybe when you turn in...
01:02I always felt when I heard they're making the movies
01:05that there should be a woman directing it.
01:07The books are told through Anna's perspective.
01:10It's all in her voice,
01:11so I just thought it made sense to have a woman show that.
01:15And Sam has got an amazing calmness to her
01:18and an amazing temperament
01:20and makes everyone around her feel very relaxed.
01:24Sam has set up a really well-run set
01:27and there's a real sense of calm
01:29and so everyone feels very comfortable to do their job
01:31to the best of their ability,
01:32which, you know, in this case means having sex on screen.
01:37Hi.
01:40You must be Anna.
01:41So awesome to meet you.
