00:00So, what do we got going here, Brian?
00:02Uh, I don't know how, just some ideas.
00:08We set out to make a movie about Brian Wilson.
00:11I'm playing Brian in the 1960s.
00:14Got all kinds of new ideas, new sounds, new instruments.
00:19He's at that point where the Beach Boys have achieved a lot of success
00:23and kind of riding the proverbial wave.
00:26And then he sort of went into the ashes and burned out.
00:29I play the period in his life when he's coming out of the ashes,
00:33so it was a more painful period.
00:34But it was also a time when he fell in love with Belinda, his wife.
00:38Are you having fun?
00:39I'm having so much fun. I love being with you.
00:43By not following a linear narrative, it's really freed us up
00:47to tell different parts of the story.
00:49I'm worried about you, brother.
00:50I was more interested in getting into the human aspects of it,
00:55parts of it that we can relate to.
00:57They chose what I think are maybe the two most interesting points in his life.
01:01I thought it was a very smart conceit
01:03because you can't possibly capture anybody's life in one film.
01:07You are dealing with a very, very sick man.
01:12You really do not need to be alarmed because I have it under control.
01:16I am the control, so to speak.
01:20I may not always love you.
01:23This is not an experimental film,
01:25but it definitely has a slightly experimental approach
01:27to how to mix those two errors in his life into a coherent story.
01:31It was really more about having the essence of who Brian was.
01:37It's very risky,
01:39but I think audiences could totally go with it.
01:41I hope they do.
01:43And God only knows what I'd be...
01:46There's definitely two movies happening at the same time.
01:50I started hearing things, strange things.
01:53I just didn't tell you because I didn't want to scare you away.
01:55I'm right here.
01:57When they asked me to play Brian,
01:59I was honored and I was excited and scared, all those things.
02:06I lucked out in getting to play somebody
02:08at the peak of their creativity.
02:12God only knows what I'd be...
02:14And I hope that I was able to expand mine a little bit
02:18just by trying to find his.
02:20God only knows what I'd be without
02:23God only knows what I'd be without
02:28God only knows what I'd be without
