00:00We have the rock legend himself, Angus Scattergood.
00:04So, any advice for up-and-coming musicians?
00:07Play your guts out and never stop.
00:09Even when your dad says stop, don't stop.
00:20Rock Dog is the story of a Tibetan Mastiff
00:24whose whole life changes when a radio literally falls out of the sky
00:27and he hears music for the first time.
00:29It leads him on a journey to find his passion.
00:32The movie is adapted from a Chinese graphic novel
00:35written by Jing Jun.
00:36His name is Michael in America
00:38who's also a famous musician there.
00:40And so, he's the guy who really, uh, he's the guy behind the movie.
00:47Angus Scattergood.
00:49We miss rock.
00:54Actually, I think Rock Dog's story is just like my own story.
00:58A boy from a small town, from a noble family.
01:02You're not gonna be a musician, Bodie.
01:04You're gonna be a guard.
01:05One day, suddenly, he said he wanted to be a rock star.
01:10No one believed him.
01:11Dad, if you could feel what I'm feeling, it was like the answer to the question of my life.
01:21There are a lot of cultural differences between China and the West,
01:24but there are quite a few commonalities, too.
01:27And so, we tried to really focus on what we have in common.
01:31The themes of the movie are, I think, shared globally.
01:35Lennox, one of the masters, is heading out.
01:37Bring him to me.
01:38We get him, we get Snow Mountain.
01:41This story is about courage.
01:44The courage to change yourself,
01:47and then to change the world.
01:50Do you know what this means?
01:51This is fate, just like Mr. Scattergood.
01:54You gotta wipe your feet before you come in.
01:56Oh, okay.
01:57I'll just...
01:57Whoa!
02:00We found songs that I think are classics,
02:02from Radiohead to The Foo Fighters to Beck,
02:05but really the most critical song was Glorious,
02:08because that is the backbone of the movie.
02:10After searching, trying to find her,
02:14I thought I'd lost my love
02:16We knew that we wanted Bodhi to create a song
02:20that would be very, very rough at first,
02:22and then you would kind of see the song grow and mature.
02:25Gonna stop us now
02:29We'll go away
02:31It can be pretty rare in animation
02:33to let actors kind of run off and improvise.
02:37Let go of me, you stupid muck.
02:38But when you have comedians like Eddie Izzard and Louis Black...
02:41Can we get a red cord to go with the red phone?
02:44And Kenan Thompson.
02:45Whoa!
02:46You're insane if you don't let them do what they're so good at.
02:49Put your seatbelt on, Scars!
02:57Rock Dogs is something that applies to everybody.
02:59How do you pursue your own dream
03:01and yet fulfill your obligations to those around you,
03:04like your family, your friends, your community?
03:07I found the fire!
03:08I found it!
03:09And I never gave up on the courage
03:11to make yourself a better person.
03:14And then one day,
03:15you can change the world
03:16with even one poor guitar.
03:23You wanna be a rock musician?
03:24You gotta have a proper act.
03:27Scour every square inch of the city.
03:29I don't want you to blink until you bite.
03:33I hope audiences will fall in love with Bodhi
03:35because he's not your typical hero.
03:38He makes the whole world around him a better place.
03:44Come, come on in, mate.
03:45Don't step on the welcome mat.
03:46And don't touch the door.
03:47It's electrified.
03:48I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:50I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:51I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:51I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:51I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:51I'm gonna be a rock musician.
03:51Grazie a tutti
