00:30We need to form a band.
00:32And that's his way of impressing her.
00:36What's this?
00:37Full work.
00:37School in the morning.
00:38This is school.
00:42You know, we went for music to that.
00:43It was more nostalgic from that period.
00:45Like Duran Duran, The Cure, and all the various different artists you see in the movie.
00:49It's not exactly the Beatles, is it?
00:50I mean, look at this guy.
00:51He's not even singing live.
00:53It's a video, Robert.
00:55It's art.
00:56Everybody's making them these days.
00:58Look at it.
01:01Each of the songs in the movie is imitating a different style of music from the 80s.
01:12And it's really fun to recognize a song that you haven't heard before because you kind
01:16of get what the style is.
01:18What the hell, Rupina?
01:19We're not exalvin!
01:21We wanted to write songs that felt like they'd been written in the 80s.
01:24In a sense, I think the 80s really were the last true decade that just didn't sound like
01:29anything before.
01:34So when we were doing the music, it was like, we wanted the songs to be as good as an
01:3880s
01:38song, as catchy and as hooky as an 80s song, but good in their own right.
01:46The way I look at it is kind of like the 60s, the 70s.
01:49Every time they just got more eccentric and the 80s just hit that point where it was just
01:52that little bit over the top and people started really challenging things.
01:56I mean, it's great.
01:57The music's great.
02:01It's wonderful to make a movie that is not just with music in it, but a movie that's about
02:06the joys of making music, and that's what John's movies are really about.
02:20No woman can truly love a man who listens to Phil Collins.
