00:00Joe, bring the heat in the association tonight.
00:038 p.m. San Antonio is the spot to be.
00:05Why?
00:06The Boston Celtics are in town with Jason Tatum to take on Victor Webanyama.
00:11This line opened up, Joe, overnight around three in the marketplace.
00:13Some outlets, you see that graphic, now listen at minus three.
00:17A total of 222.5.
00:19Celtics Spurs, maybe a preview of the finals here, Joe.
00:22Give me that spread look here tonight.
00:25Pretty good chance of that there.
00:27I mean, both seem to be playing their best.
00:29Certainly, San Antonio is just on a roll here.
00:33And I am not sure I want to step in front of this train right now.
00:39The Spurs are rolling.
00:41Now, listen, the Celtics have gotten Tatum back.
00:43He's got a couple of games under his belt.
00:45But when push comes to shove, are we really pushing Tatum to 30, 35 minutes?
00:51Is that what's going to happen here?
00:54You're going to need Tatum in the fourth quarter against this San Antonio team.
00:59I just don't know that it's going to matter if he's on the court right now in the fourth quarter,
01:05because the Spurs might be that far ahead here.
01:09I like the Spurs in this spot a lot at home against the Celtics.
01:13Final game and a nightcap, Joe.
01:1511 o'clock start in the NBA.
01:17It's the Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers.
01:19The favorite at home?
01:20It's not the Lakers.
01:21It's the road team, Joe.
01:22The Timberwolves by two and a half and a total of 234 and a half.
01:26What's your spread line tonight out on the West Coast for this one?
01:29Well, I mean, Lakers did a really good job against the Knicks.
01:32Now they get Minnesota coming in.
01:34Lucas kind of had his way over the years against this Timberwolves team.
01:39Lakers got to kick it into gear, right?
01:41I mean, they don't want to be falling out and looking at a play-in spot.
01:46Nice win against the Knicks.
01:47Build off of that.
01:49They should be able to handle the Timberwolves at home.
01:52But I really like the over in this spot as well.
01:55NFL news and notes.
01:56We got you covered this morning.
01:58Absolutely.
01:58Any hot topics come across the screen for us, we'll let you know.
02:01But the NBA, certainly popping as well.
02:03I love when we have some videos here to get some of those frustrations out.
02:07Here's Coach Mike Brown.
02:08Let's hear about it.
02:09Mike, you've been pretty even-keeled throughout the season,
02:12and you guys have been playing so well.
02:14It seems like your frustration is a little higher.
02:17Is that because you've been playing so well
02:19or because the losses in the three areas, the slippage in the three areas?
02:22Is there something else that's leading to maybe the frustrations
02:25after today's game?
02:27No.
02:28If we did those things, those self-inflicted things, I would be frustrated, you know,
02:38whenever it is.
02:39And, again, I just – they had something to do with it.
02:46They're a good team.
02:46And I don't want to take anything away from J.J. and the rest of his staff
02:50and all their players.
02:51They earned that win.
02:53But I thought we had some controllables that we didn't do a good job of taking care of.
02:59And that's the frustrating part.
03:02We didn't give ourselves much of a chance to win this ball game, not at any point, you know.
03:11And that's what's frustrating.
03:13Frustrating not defending at all and also losing to a 32-32 Clippers team on the road
03:18by almost double digits here.
03:19Clippers brought the heat, man, 38 points in that final stanza, Joe.
03:23Yeah, well, that was – that was his response after embarrassingly couldn't even score 100
03:29points against the Lakers' defense.
03:31Now they had to go last night to take on a much better Clippers' defense.
03:36And they were a road favorite.
03:38And, listen, it's – Jalen Brunson played 42 minutes in that Lakers game,
03:43and he looked absolutely gassed in it.
03:46And then he had to go back again last night and play a Clippers team,
03:51and he's chasing around Darius Garland and Kawhi – I mean, it was just a bad spot for the Knicks.
03:57But, yeah, they are in a lot of times, Donnie, their own worst enemy here.
04:03And I get what Mike Brown is saying.
04:05I really do.
04:06But it didn't – they didn't fix it overnight against the Clippers, that's for sure.
04:10NBA trying to avoid a possible headache here, Joe,
04:14announcing it canceled the Atlanta Hawks Magic City Night promotion in Atlanta.
04:19T.I. is still going to perform at the half, maybe still get some lemon pepper wings,
04:22but you're not going to have the paraphernalia and the official moniker of Magic City Night
04:26at the Atlanta Hawks game here, Joe.
04:28I know you were disappointed by this.
04:29I really am, because I really wanted to see them pull this thing off.
04:35I was looking – everyone loves a good car crash, and I was waiting to see what this would have
04:39been like.
04:40But the fact that you're stepping in so late, though, Adam Silver, I mean, ticket prices went –
04:46everything went through the roof, the merch, everything.
04:50Everybody was gearing up for it, and all of a sudden, you pulled the plug last minute for what?
04:57I mean, no different is the criticism yesterday, Donnie, than what he got when it was first announced,
05:03and everyone's like, wait a minute, isn't Magic City a strip club?
05:06No, it's a cultural institution in Atlanta.
05:10Yeah.
05:11And every NBA player has experienced that institution when they play in Atlanta.
05:16So, the whole thing was just ridiculous from the start.
05:20Joe, an NBA player broke containment of the bubble and went to get lemon pepper wings here
05:27and was caught on camera doing that for the biggest scandal of the bubble that we saw in the NBA.
05:33So, if you're risking your livelihood to go to a club to get some lemon pepper wings,
05:38got to be a cultural institution there that needs to be respected down there for Magic City.
05:43And I got to tell you this, Joe.
05:44Let's flip it over to a good story here.
05:45I tell you all the time, Nicole Jokic hates basketball.
05:48Like, he cannot wait to get out of this game, go home, and say, you know what?
05:52I want to race some horses.
05:53Here you go.
05:54Nicole Jokic said, he's glad he's retiring soon.
05:57Is he that old at this point?
05:58Before realizing Webb and Yama's going to take over the NBA.
06:01He's changing basketball.
06:03I'm glad that I'll probably retire before Wemby holds the entire league in a chokehold.
06:07I don't even get the Wemby's good at basketball we know he is.
06:10I just think Jokic hates basketball and can't wait to retire.
06:13That's what I took out of it.
06:13I, yeah, listen, Jokic is, I love the fact that he's like, I'm just, I'm buying a ranch
06:19and I don't ever want to see you people again.
06:22I'll just hang out with the horses and my family and we're good to go here.
06:27But yeah, they got some, they got some work to do here though.
06:31Denver, if he's going to go out with another ring on that finger.
06:34I love this.
06:35This is a good story too.
06:36Quote, they've got to do something about this tanking situation.
06:39I don't like how teams are deliberately trying to tank to get a good draft pick.
06:42That's Michael Porter Jr. talking about tanking the NBA.
06:45He's a net.
06:46I think they're tanking and maybe that's why he's pissed.
06:49I'm trying to play basketball.
06:51You give me no help out here, Joe.
06:54Yeah, he's great.
06:55And then he promptly, after making that comment, was all of a sudden ruled out of the game there
07:00because he won't be playing here tonight.
07:03So congratulations there.
07:05You know, that's very hollow, those words.
07:09Very hollow, those words.
07:11But now from Joe Ranieri and Donnie Wright, that is our number two is on deck.
07:15You know what that brings, the heat baby.
07:18Let's go.
07:19It's our number two right here, the early line.
07:21Time to get down to the business and the fun.
07:24It's Donnie Wright's head of Joe Ranieri and the guy who's treated himself to a lot of
07:28lemon pepper wings in the past.
07:30That's Kevin Walsh, man.
07:31Good morning, Kevin.
07:32We got topics to talk about NBA and cancellations in the NBA today.
07:37Oh, no.
07:38Oh, I don't know what I, what have I walked into?
07:41What have I signed up for?
07:42You're going to get hit with another question.
07:44The lemon pepper wing comment is something that I anticipate and I'm prepped on.
07:49I don't know.
07:50Yep.
07:51I don't know what he's got going on here, Ranieri.
07:54No, we got some good stuff going on this morning.
07:57By the way, Ranieri, like there's, you know, coming up in Kevin's future, we're not going
08:00to dip into like the personal life, but you know, Magic City, Atlanta, maybe, you know,
08:06Kevin had a flight going down to Atlanta for that night to Magic City, have some fun with
08:09the boys, watch a basketball game.
08:11I don't know.
08:11I'm just anticipating Kevin.
08:13But the NBA says no Magic City, Kevin.
08:16Look, it can't happen.
08:17Can't happen.
08:18Are you upset about this?
08:19No, I'm not upset.
08:21I don't have a super strong opinion on the entire thing.
08:25My loose understanding is that Magic City is more than just what it is.
08:32And it means a lot to Atlanta.
08:34Atlanta, I am a little thrown still that like it was Luke Cornett who was like, guys, this
08:40must not like not on Atlanta, like or any ties to the area.
08:45So, yeah, that was a little surprising there.
08:49Yeah, a little bit off the cuff action in the NBA, but we got to get down to the business
08:52tonight, Kevin.
08:53And that business starts with the Boston Celtics and the San Antonio Spurs tonight from San Antonio.
08:59We'll call it three to three and a half as a favorite tonight for the Spurs.
09:02Back in the lineup now for Tatum, getting those legs back here, a force they could be.
09:07And also, Kevin, could this actually be a preview of the NBA Finals?
09:12Because why?
09:12Spurs don't mind going up against OKC, Kev.
09:15No, they certainly do not.
09:17And just in their own right, they look fantastic.
09:20They play great basketball on both sides right now, San Antonio.
09:26But I got to tell you, guys, whenever a Boston Celtic game comes up, I can't help but look
09:32at the total, though.
09:34Maybe tonight I'll just look at it and then do absolutely nothing.
09:38The number is 222 and a half.
09:40Only two games since the All-Star break has a Celtic total gone through that number.
09:47They are allowing less than 100 points per game right now.
09:52Boston is...
09:54It's not a one-to-one comparison.
09:57They're a little Houston Cougars-esque.
09:59They are so slow and through dictating pace, they are able to find a level of defensive efficiency
10:09that I certainly wasn't anticipating.
10:13When you think about the guys that they had lost, obviously just getting Tatum back, it's
10:17not as if his return is a reason for the defensive season that they've had in Boston.
10:22Some believe that that's a big part of why Joe Mazzula may end up the coach of the year
10:27in the NBA.
10:29I love to buy low.
10:31The total is very, very scary to me because I just...
10:35I'm wondering when they correct a Celtics total into the 215 range.
10:41That's what I'm going to be really interested to see.
10:46I'm going to be fascinated, Kev, to see how they use Tatum.
10:50Now what?
10:51This will be his third game back after the injury.
10:54To me, it feels like everyone's so excited about Tatum returning.
11:00You need Tatum in the fourth quarter against a team like the San Antonio Spurs.
11:05So what happens, Brian?
11:07Are we talking a 35-minute, 37-minute Jason Tatum performance tonight?
11:13Because I think that's what it's going to take at this time to go into San Antonio and win
11:19this game.
11:19And I have my doubts they can do it.
11:22Yeah, he's played 27 minutes exactly in each game.
11:26He's also 6 of 16 from the floor exactly in each game.
11:30And grading Jason Tatum on a curve, of course, makes sense.
11:38He's coming back from a torn Achilles.
11:40But that only makes sense relative to how impressive Tatum is, right?
11:45It doesn't matter if when we are constantly discussing whether or not Boston should be
11:52the favorites in the conference or whether or not Boston can win an NBA championship this
11:58year, and that of which I still have my doubts.
12:01Because, I mean, San Antonio just put 145 up on Houston, right?
12:07I look at a number like this.
12:10Ultimately, that Cavs team on the Sunday game that they played against the Celtics were a
12:15one, one-and-a-half-point favorite.
12:18Without Jared Allen, are the Spurs two points better than the Cavs, who also didn't have
12:25Jared Allen?
12:26I would say yes.
12:27I agree with you, Joe.
12:29This is Spurs or nothing for me here in a pretty exciting game, though, all in all.
12:35Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin, Los Angeles Lakers, the night captain, 11 o'clock start.
12:40I mean, this is madness at this point, but you do have a favorite, and it's not the Los
12:44Angeles Lakers.
12:45It is the Minnesota Timberwolves at minus two-and-a-half and a 234.
12:48I mean, but let's forget the breakdown, Kevin.
12:5011 o'clock.
12:51What are we doing?
12:52Again, is the goal of the NBA to get teams not there, get people to not watch their games?
12:57Is that the goal we have?
12:58I'll be honest with you.
13:00Now waking up with you knuckleheads, I'm going to have to start agreeing with this Donnie
13:03take because, I mean, 11 o'clock is certainly pushing it here.
13:07I was not able to give Santa Clara, St. Mary's last night my best effort.
13:13There's only so much you can really do with, what was that, an 1145, 1150 tip out there
13:19in the WCC.
13:21So it's very tough.
13:22But to the game, DRS, I mean, there's a lot of questions just right now around, did the
13:30Lakers find something against the Knicks?
13:33Was it a good schedule spot where you're playing an East Coast team for a noon local tip on a
13:40Sunday?
13:41And then there's this, are they better without LeBron?
13:44Are they better without LeBron?
14:15LeBron, it's very simple.
14:15Put up, you 76ers, that you cheer on.
14:17But tonight, as well as last night, you cheer for unders and missed shots.
14:21115-101 last night, easily staying under the 227.5 total in their Cleveland game.
14:27Now they return home to take on the Memphis Grizzlies, Joe.
14:30Look at the line in this one.
14:31Opened up at six.
14:33Now it's down to three and a half and two and a halves in the marketplace now.
14:36And a total that sits at 228.5.
14:39I'm keeping it simple.
14:40It's not necessarily a handicap based on X's and O's.
14:43But the Sixers are a bad team and injured.
14:45They played last night.
14:46They're going to have tired legs.
14:48Uninspiring efforts across the board.
14:49Maybe they barely get to 100.
14:51But Joe, same thing as yesterday.
14:54Under 228.5 today.
14:56I just don't see a high-scoring game with a Sixers team with not a lot of bullets left in
15:00the chamber right now.
15:01How do you feel about that?
15:03I'm with you, Donnie.
15:05If it ain't, it's broke right now in Philadelphia and expecting anything more than maybe 100
15:10points is kind of crazy.
15:12Joe, let's flip it over to the association tonight.
15:15Game of the night.
15:16The Boston Celtics at the San Antonio Spurs.
15:19We take a look at the chances here.
15:21San Antonio, a 56% chance listed on the Couchy marketplace to win this game.
15:25Boston listed at 44%.
15:27Look at the line.
15:28One and a half point favorite by San Antonio currently trading at 56 cents.
15:33So a $100 investment, if you think San Antonio wins this game by two or more, that would
15:37pay off at $179.
15:39But Joe, we love the predictive market similar to some of the sports books that they can do.
15:43Hit that slider up.
15:44You think they might want to rate with this game a little bit?
15:46And how about, Joe, winning by six points or more?
15:49A $100 investment, that would pay back $345.
15:54Different ways to invest your money.
15:55But how are we thinking this game goes tonight between the Celtics and the Spurs?
15:59Well, I mean, I think the hype around the Celtics with Tatum back in the mix is big.
16:06And I also think it's actually keeping this line artificially low.
16:12Now, I'm not saying Boston should be the favorite on the road against San Antonio.
16:15Absolutely not.
16:16But let's be reasonable here.
16:18I mean, six of the past seven wins by the Celtics, they've held teams to 100 points or less.
16:23But we're not talking about exactly tremendous competition here.
16:28The Spurs out in the West are a different animal here.
16:32And the way they are playing at home, my goodness, Houston is a tremendous defensive basketball team.
16:39And they just got 145 dropped on them on this court a couple of nights ago.
16:44I'm with you, Donnie.
16:45I'm looking at alternate markets.
16:47I'm taking advantage of an artificially low market here.
16:51I'm taking the Spurs team total over.
16:53I'm taking them to win in the alternate market, too.
16:57I would ladder it, Donnie, quite honestly, up to eight or nine points because that's how bad I think they're
17:03going to beat the Celtics tonight.
17:05Talked about Jokic scoring, let's just say, over 30 points yesterday to plus money price.
17:09If you move Tatum up to 20-plus points today, $100 investment pays back $205 in the player prop marketplace.
17:16Minnesota, that's the Timberwolves on the road to take on the Los Angeles Lakers.
17:20LeBron James is questionable for this night tonight due to some hip and foot issues.
17:24But Minnesota currently trading as the favorite at a 54% chance.
17:27The Los Angeles Lakers at a 46% chance.
17:30Mind you, the Lakers are at home.
17:32Minnesota, if you want to have that cover of the spread, that's minus one and a half.
17:35And that's trading currently at a 54% chance.
17:39$100 pays back $186 on that investment.
17:43Yeah, I mean, listen, I think the Lakers have already beat them a handful of times early on in the
17:48season here.
17:49Whether LeBron goes or not, you know, having Hakamura, having Reeves, having Donchick, they're going to have to show up
17:57here.
17:57They're going to need Kennard.
17:58They're going to need some of the bench guys to show up and show out.
18:01These two teams know each other, know each other well.
18:04I just can't imagine this thing landing under.
18:07It feels like Edwards and Donchick are going to be good for 35 or more points in this game.
18:12Give me the over, Donny.
18:14Double, double marketplace tonight.
18:16Luka Doncic, that's trading currently at $0.50 here, which means $100 investment exactly pays back $200.
18:22If you want to get to the point structure tonight, you can certainly do that as well.
18:26Luka Doncic to go for 30 plus points currently trading at $0.60, which means $100 will pay back $167.
18:32Yes, you're paying a little bit of technical juice on that for him to get over $0.30.
18:36But as Joe said, he needs a big night, and we just might get it here.
