00:11Women make up half the global population yet in news reports they're only seen or heard from
00:16around a quarter of the time. Here at KMTV News 73% of our news team is female and beside
00:22me on
00:23the wall leading up to our studio are some of the amazing women that have come through our doors.
00:27I'd say for me being a woman in journalism is about being the representation that I want to
00:32see on screen and this very much shapes the stories that I tell the journalist I want to be
00:37how I present myself on screen as well and also whose voices I get to highlight there's a lot
00:42there's a lot of moments where I'm going out and I'm telling a story that sometimes you need the
00:46female perspective on. I feel really inspired by Marie Colvin and Emily Maitlis I think both
00:53really strong women and very well known in as being strong women in journalism.
00:59When I started it was majority men it was only me and the editor who were women so to have
01:04it now be mostly women is great I feel like and we can work together quite well I feel like
01:09we can support each other better and because there's a lot of things that women go through
01:13that maybe men don't understand so if someone's having a hard day we can kind of talk to each
01:17other and support each other and come up with different stories like what you're doing today.
01:23International Women's Day to me is really important I've grown up around some really
01:28strong women which I'm very privileged for but it's really important for me as I think
01:32it's important to show that women do belong in these spaces whether it's engineering, education,
01:38TV and being able to represent that in the TV field is really important for not just young
01:45people but people of different generations as well and that it's never too late to chase
01:49your dream.
01:50Media reflects reality and for us it's essential to tell stories that matter for women and girls.
01:56This International Women's Day we pledge to continue to support our reporters in helping
02:00women's voices be heard.
