Labor candidate Ed Smelt appears likely to win the Nightcliff by-election after preferences helped him take a narrow lead at the end of counting last night. Despite a four per cent primary vote swing against Labor Ed Smelt is just ahead on the two-candidate preferred count with the Greens set to lose their first seat in the Territory's parliament.
