Curious about the origins of modern computing? This video explores "computer history," focusing on the "first computer," ENIAC, a room-sized marvel from 1945. Discover how "computer programming" was initially a physical task of plugging cables, and learn about the pioneering "women in tech" who were the world's first programmers for these "early computers."

00:00Do you know this image? Look closely. What do you think is happening here? Is it a telephone
00:04station or something more powerful? This is ENIAC, one of the first electronic computers ever built.
00:09It was created in 1945 and it filled an entire room. See all those wires and switches? There
00:13were no keyboards, no screens. Programming meant physically plugging cables. And here's the
00:18shocking part. The first programmers in history were women. These women wrote the programs that
00:22powered this giant machine, but their names were forgotten for decades. No credit, no spotlight,
00:27yet they helped start the digital world we live in today.
00:57I appreciate it.
