India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a clear and thought-provoking message on the concept of the “Global South” during the Raisina Dialogue.Speaking at the global geopolitics conference in New Delhi, Jaishankar said that the Global South is not just a political or economic grouping but also an “emotion” that reflects shared experiences and aspirations among developing nations. The statement highlights India’s growing diplomatic role in representing the concerns of developing countries on the global stage.

00:00I mean you know in here if you are from the global south or not. It's a, it's a, it's
00:05a emotion.
00:06Means global south is for real. Because it meant something for us, you know. So there is a emotion,
00:14you know, look, I think the definition of global south would be a solid, you know, countries
00:21who have been, who had been colonized. But it's not so much a definition. I mean you know in
00:29here if you are from the global south or not. It's a, it's a, it's a emotion. It's a, it's
00:35a sense of
00:36solidarity. And don't take it as sloganeering or you know some kind of diplomatic clever term. Look,
00:45when COVID happened, the fact that a country like India which was still undergoing its vaccination
00:52was willing to send out vaccines to countries of the global south means global south is for real.
00:59Because it meant something for us, you know. So there is a emotion and, and I would argue
01:07to some degree a culture where global west is concerned. So global south emanates from shared
01:14historical experiences. You could argue we are, we are the victims in a sense of history,
01:21recent history who have combined together. I think global west was probably a more unified term,
01:27very cultural, very political, very strategic, till recently. Now there is a differentiation
01:35in the global west which is why he wants to make it a rectangle. So the, the fact that it's
01:44still there,
01:45I would argue, but less, less cohesive, less tight than before. I have actually a question of the global east,
01:52because I don't think that kind of solidarity or that kind of cohesion really exists where eastern…
02:02Hemisphere.
02:03Yeah. Well, there is no eastern hemisphere in, you know, I mean this is…
02:07Unless you are reading Kishore's book.
02:08But, but I would argue that, you know, many of the countries which are envisaged as global east really
02:17think of themselves much more as strong national players and much less collectively as an east. So I
02:25think it's more, it's less cohesive. West is more differentiated. I think south is very…
02:33South is a vibe. You said south is a vibe. South is a vibe. West is differentiated. East is,
02:38is probably the weakest.
02:40Invented.
02:41Is invented.
