00:00China's Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, has secured a $600 million sustainability-linked loan
00:08to expand its offshore financing capacity.
00:11Our correspondent Wang Tianyu spoke to the company's CEO.
00:16Our mission is to solve the sustainability challenge for the humanity.
00:22So we know the world needs actually a new energy system.
00:30Not only wind, but a system which is able to harness wind and solar, you know, dealing with uncertainty, intermittency,
00:40but also a system is able to dispatch in reliably according to our, you know, demand.
00:48We are seeing an AI turbine right here in the picture.
00:52So in one sentence, how is AI making your wind turbines better?
00:56So, you know, think about the previous turbine control technology.
01:01It is like, you know, a rule-based approach.
01:05You need us writing hundreds of rules to make turbines to capture wind energy,
01:11at the same time also to avoid catastrophic load cases.
01:17But now we create a model-based control strategy, which is AI real-time modeling according to the context in
01:29real-time.
01:30What kind of wind speed, what kind of grid situation, what kind of market price.
01:36So the AI is able to have a systematic view on the entire energy system.
01:42At the same time, it's going to read the context to come up with the best solution.
01:48It is able to deal with all kinds of scenarios.
01:52So do you think that the AI and the wind power are locked in a kind of mutual dependency?
01:59You see, the thing about AI, what is fundamentally the nature of AI?
02:06It's kind of high-level structured information, which is being created by energy.
02:15So the AI is the derivatives of the energy.
02:21So you can see closed loop between energy and AI.
02:26AI is able to harness more renewable energy.
02:30More renewable energy is going to be energy more abundant, much affordable, to boost AI even further.
02:40This is going to be a reinforced process.
02:42But considering AI is software and it's developing so fast,
02:47but building those infrastructures like wind device need time,
02:50are we going to go through a power energy poverty in the near future?
02:55If we cannot unlock the potential of renewables, the answer is yes.
03:04Think about the current oil and gas probably is going to sustain us for the next 50 to 80 years,
03:12according to current consumption rate.
03:15But the AI is going to have a huge energy appetite.
03:19You know, as a result, the poor people and also public system is not going to be affordable to compete
03:27with such unlimited resources.
03:30But we have a solution.
03:32We have unlimited, infinite renewable sources.
03:36And the technology in the past 20 years has been developed so fast to make a 90% cost reduction.
03:43So that's why we have to harness renewable.
03:47We have to create a renewable energy system to avoid energy poverty, to really underpin the growth of AI.
03:55You mentioned about large scale, massive deployment of wind and solar has brought the cost down dramatically.
04:04Is that scale helpful for like accelerate the global energy transition, especially for those developed economies?
04:12They don't really need a cheaper price compared to.
04:16No, no, no, no, no.
04:17I think every country needs affordable energy.
04:21More energy is much better.
04:25So nobody wants to actually limit our energy consumption.
04:31If we look at the history, we know the clear pattern.
04:35Energy creates prosperity.
04:37That's why after the Industrial Revolution, our GDP grew 100 times because of 100 times energy supply.
04:49Once we need to develop our economy even further, make our civilization more flourish, we for sure we need more
04:56energy, 10 times more, 100 times more, as we achieved in the last 200 years.
05:03So that's why this affordable energy is so relevant to every country, not only for developing country, also for the
05:14developed country, makes them even more developed.
