00:00This guy thought he was being very clever, jumping into the ocean and swimming his way to freedom as he
00:06fled police.
00:07Big mistake. Look, that's a shark.
00:12The pursuit started when Zachary Kingsbury took off running during a traffic stop in Surf City, North Carolina.
00:18A police drone followed the 20-year-old suspect as he swam nearly a mile out to sea.
00:24He was doing pretty well, too, until this five-foot-long shark showed up.
00:28If he's floating, he's going to be floating in that direction.
00:31About four hours later, the suspect finally gave up and returned to shore, reluctantly.
00:37He just refused to drown the water at the spot.
00:39I spoke to Kingsbury from his jail cell.
00:41Did you know there was a shark near you?
00:43No, I did not.
00:44What do you want people to know?
00:45Now that I reflect back on it, you know, I kind of think, like, wow, it's pretty stupid.
00:49I feel lucky that I'm still here.
00:51Kingsbury was wanted for allegedly committing a home invasion in Washington state last March.
00:56He fled the jurisdiction and ended up in North Carolina.
01:00Now his days as a daring escape artist appear to be over, thanks to police and that menacing shark.
01:06I found it.
01:07He is in custody.
01:11I found it.
01:12fucking died in fear.
01:13He was like, hey, boy.
01:13Hopefully he's been in custody.
01:13math Comes the less bad would happen.
01:13He's in custody.
