Taiwan will face off against world #1 and reigning champions Japan in its second match at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The road ahead is not easy, but fans are still feeling upbeat.

00:00Team Taiwan is going up against Japan in the World Baseball Classic in Tokyo.
00:05There's a lot of excitement around the game, especially with MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani on the roster.
00:11Our reporter Leslie Liao is at a watch party in Taipei.
00:14Leslie, what's the mood where you are?
00:18Hi, Betty. So baseball fans are out here in full force in Taipei
00:23as Team Taiwan takes on World Baseball Classic reigning champions Japan.
00:28Now, despite Team Taiwan losing its first match of the tournament on Thursday to Australia,
00:33fans are still showing up to show support to the players as they dust themselves off and rise to the
00:39next challenge.
00:4028-year-old Zheng Haojun is taking the mound for Team Taiwan,
00:44and he's going to go up against reigning World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
00:49And as if that weren't enough of a challenge, Zheng will also have to pitch to the MVP from the
00:54last World Baseball Classic,
00:56Shohei Ohtani. Now, we spoke to a few fans here at the watch party,
01:00and most of them, not all of them,
01:02say that they're feeling positive about tonight's game.
01:20So, Betty, the road ahead is indeed challenging,
01:23but like Japan, baseball is Taiwan's national sport,
01:28and in baseball, anything can happen.
01:31That includes winning against World No. 1 Japan.
