00:00My name is Gagan Sethi. I'm a job seeker. In my religion, as you know, Guru Nanak is the founder
00:08of our religion. Is he a Muslim? That's my question.
00:15Brother asked the question. Our young brother who's a Sikh, comes from India. He says that he's a Sikh and
00:23the founder of his religion is Guru Nanak.
00:26He asked me the question, was Guru Nanak Muslim or not? Brother, Muslim is an Arabic word which means a
00:34person who submits his will to Almighty God. Anyone who submits his will to Almighty God, he's a Muslim.
00:40Now since I did not meet Guru Nanak personally, I cannot say definitely whether he's a Muslim or not.
00:48But I have read the Guru Granth Sahib, that is the sacred scripture of the Sikh.
00:54And Sikhism is a religion which believes in 10 Gurus.
01:01The first who's a founder is Guru Nanak Sahib and the last is Guru Gobind Sahib.
01:07Brother asked me the question, do I consider Guru Nanak to be a Muslim?
01:12If I read the Guru Granth Sahib, if I read the first verse, first volume, first verse is known as
01:19Jaapu Ji.
01:27It says that Almighty God is true.
01:34He is the creator.
01:37He is free from fear and want.
01:40He is self-existing.
01:43He is eternal.
01:45He is great and he is compassionate.
01:48Now based on this, it is somewhat similar to the verse of the Quran of Surah Al-Khlas.
01:53Chapter number 112, verse number 1 to 4 which says,
01:57ูููู ูููู ุงูููููู ุฃูุญูุฏู
01:59Say is Allah one and only.
02:01Jaapu Ji also says that He is not begotten.
02:04Say is Allah one and only.
02:06ุงูููููู ุณูู
ูุฏู
02:07Allah, the absolute and eternal.
02:09ููู
ู ููุฐู ููููู
ู ููููุฏู
02:10He begets not, now He is begotten.
02:12ููููู
ู ูููููู ูููููููู ููููุฏู
02:13There is nothing like Him.
02:15Again if you read,
02:17in Sikhism,
02:19Sikhism is a religion
02:21which is a monotheistic religion.
02:24And it calls Almighty God
02:25as Ek Omkara
02:27in the unmanifest form.
02:28And manifest form is called as Omkara
02:30and there are various attributes
02:33He is given to Almighty God
02:34in the Guru Granth Sahib.
02:37In Sikhism,
02:38Almighty God is also called
02:40as Aqal,
02:42eternal.
02:43He is called as Kartar,
02:44the creator.
02:46He is called as Sahib,
02:47Lord.
02:48He is called as Parvartigar,
02:51the cherisher.
02:52He is called as Rahim,
02:53the beneficent.
02:54He is called as Kareem,
02:55the benevolent.
02:56He is called as Vahe Guru,
02:58the one true God.
02:59Now based on these readings
03:01of Guru Granth Sahib,
03:04based on these,
03:06I think that Guru Nanak was a Muslim.
03:09Muslim means a person
03:11who submits his will to Almighty God.
03:13But what the scholars say
03:14that this Sikhism is a religion
03:16that emerged in the later part
03:19of the 15th century
03:20in the land of Punjab,
03:21in the land of the Fire River.
03:23And the scholars say
03:25it's an amalgamation
03:26of Islam and Hinduism.
03:28That's what scholars say.
03:30That based on these verses,
03:32Guru Nanak believed in one God.
03:34He believed that God was begotten.
03:37He had no images.
03:38He was all-powerful.
03:40I personally have not read
03:42about Guru Nanak,
03:43whether he believed
03:44in Prophet Muhammad,
03:45peace be upon him or not.
03:46I don't know personally.
03:48Personally, I haven't met him.
03:50But based on these teachings,
03:52it seems to be
03:54that he is a Muslim.
03:56Seems to be.
03:57Whether he was or not,
03:58I don't know.
04:00But unfortunately,
04:01as time passes,
04:04there is corruption in it.
04:06Like if you ask me,
04:07was Jesus Christ a Muslim?
04:09Undoubtedly.
04:10Jesus Christ,
04:11peace be upon him,
04:12was a Muslim.
04:12Why?
04:13Quran says that.
04:14Tulal Imran,
04:15chapter number 3,
04:16verse number 52.
04:17That Isa al-Salaam
04:18was a Muslim.
04:20But there is no verse
04:20in the Quran saying,
04:21Guru Nanak will be a Muslim.
04:23So based on the verse,
04:24but if I read the Bible,
04:26if I read verses of the Bible,
04:27what Jesus Christ says,
04:29it proves that he is a Muslim.
04:30But there are other
04:31interpolation in the Bible.
04:33There are concoctions in the Bible,
04:35which undoubtedly
04:36cannot be the word of God.
04:38So I cannot attribute this
04:39to Jesus Christ,
04:40peace be upon him.
04:41But if I check what is right,
04:45whether what the Bible says,
04:46because Quran says,
04:47I believe Isa al-Salaam
04:48was a Muslim.
04:50Abraham al-Salaam
04:50was a Muslim.
04:51Surah Imran,
04:52chapter 3,
04:52verse 67.
04:53He was not a Jew
04:54or a Christian,
04:54he was a Muslim.
04:55So because the Quran
04:56clarifies,
04:57I've got no doubt.
04:57As far as Guru Nanak
04:59is concerned,
04:59because the Quran
05:00does not clarify,
05:01but seeing the verses,
05:02I consider,
05:03maybe he was a Muslim,
05:04but what you have to realize
05:06later on,
05:07as I said,
05:07there was corruption
05:08in the Bible.
05:09Even here,
05:09what we find,
05:10that people have started
05:12worshipping the Guru Granth Sahib.
05:16Guru Nanak didn't say
05:17you have to worship
05:17the Guru Granth Sahib.
05:19They even have,
05:19if you go to the Sikh temple,
05:21other things,
05:22which are deviations.
05:23So based on these deviations,
05:25I cannot say that
05:26they're Muslims.
05:27But go back to your scripture.
05:29If you go back to your scripture
05:30and believe in Almighty God,
05:31who is not begotten,
05:32who is one,
05:33who has got no images,
05:34and worshipping Malone,
05:36then you will go back
05:37to the original faith
05:38that is Islam.
05:38Hope that is a good thing.
