Extreme Meteorologist Dr. Reed Timmer warns of a growing risk of tornadoes on the night of March 5 as severe weather looms from the Texas Panhandle to southwestern Oklahoma.
Transcript
00:00We have an increasing threat of a strong tornado or two this evening across the southeastern Texas Panhandle into the
00:07southwestern corner of Oklahoma.
00:09And the Storm Prediction Center has increased tornado probabilities to 10% with that hatch area out here as well.
00:15You can see the beautiful Wichita Mountains back behind me.
00:19Temperature already up to 70 degrees.
00:21And the dew points are going to be in the 60s here along and south of a warm frontal zone
00:26that is lifting north through the northwest Texas region.
00:29Right now, and that's going to anchor across the southeastern Texas Panhandle, likely across the Red River Valley.
00:35And a cluster of supercells is forecast to develop as early as 4 to 5 p.m. off the cap
00:41rock.
00:41And they will move along that warm frontal zone.
00:43And those dominant supercells will have a chance to produce giant hail of baseball size and larger.
00:50And a threat of even a strong tornado as the low-level jet begins to increase.
00:54That's the southerly winds about a kilometer above the ground.
00:57That will start to rip overnight tonight.
00:59And any of those supercells that are moving along that warm frontal zone could even reach the Oklahoma City Metro
01:05by about 2 to 4 in the morning.
01:07Maybe even earlier tomorrow morning.
01:10But that tornado threat is going to continue all the way up into the Oklahoma City Metro, likely late, late
01:15night tonight.
01:15But meanwhile, that cluster of supercells that's moving out of the southeastern Texas Panhandle will have the chance of producing
01:23a strong tornado this evening.
01:25And those are going to move into southwestern Oklahoma as well.
01:28Beautiful terrain out here across southwestern Oklahoma right next to the beautiful Wichita Mountains.
01:35But big moisture for this time of year is setting the stage for multiple days of severe weather potential with
01:42already an enhanced risk out tomorrow with that dry line marching east.
01:46And that could bring a threat of a strong tornado or two tomorrow across portions of central and eastern Oklahoma
01:51and Kansas into Missouri.
