Millions turn to AI for comfort, but experts worry, it may quietly make us lonelier. Chatbots mirror us so convicingly that real human connection becomes more difficult.

00:00Millions of people talk to AI like it's a friend.
00:03Here are three reasons why you shouldn't.
00:05First of all, AI may erode your social skills.
00:08Too much AI use can make human interaction harder for you.
00:11AI mirrors your own opinion.
00:13It often agrees with and validates you.
00:16That can make interactions with real people feel even harder.
00:19It will change what it's like for us to go back out into the real world
00:23and to experience human beings who do not interact with us in this sycophantic way.
00:29And that could make us more emotionally vulnerable to real human interactions.
00:34Second, AI can actually make you feel lonelier.
00:37A recent study found that heavy chatbot use was linked to greater loneliness
00:41and less real-world socializing.
00:43It might also have to do with the quality of interaction.
00:46Third, AI can't give you a hug.
00:49Physical contact releases oxytocin, the love hormone,
00:52which increases emotional security.
00:54It also reduces levels of the main stress hormone, cortisol.
00:58Do you put a time limit on talking to bots?
