00:02Hungary's last-minute veto on the 90 billion euros loan to Ukraine highlights the need for the European Union to
00:09move away from unanimity.
00:10Robietten, the new prime minister of the Netherlands, said on his first trip to Brussels since taking office.
00:17The new Dutch government is in favor of less and less decision-making by unanimity on the European level.
00:23I think this is a clear example why that is important because we cannot explain to our constituents that Europe
00:31is sometimes way too slow in reacting on great issues that affect us all.
00:37And as I said before, if you reach political agreement on council level, we expect every European member state to
00:45uphold that agreement.
00:46Robietten called on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to respect the agreement reached among leaders and stressed the EU needs
00:54to step up support for Ukraine as the United States pulls away.
00:59Yet he also urged caution when it comes to Ukraine's accession to the EU.
01:03We are very open-minded to look into broader support for these countries, but moving too fast is, I think,
01:11not the way to move forward.
01:13I think at the moment it's not possible to set a date for enlargement with Ukraine, but it is possible
01:19to talk with them, and I will do that with President Zelensky in a short time, how Europeans can support
01:26Ukraine in the important reforms that have been undertaken.
01:30Despite the reservations from EU countries, Ukrainian President Zelensky continues to push for a clear date on Ukraine's membership as
01:39part of the peace, ideally by 2027.
