00:03Joe is a traitor.
00:06And after this, on the night I tried to raise the idea that Joe was a traitor,
00:11I came very close to being banished myself.
00:19Oh, Joe!
00:23You're chosen to win a game. Why?
00:28I am, and have always been, a traitor.
00:44Oh!
00:51I'm so sorry.
00:52Oh, he's been tearing me apart. I'm so sorry.
00:59You did brilliantly all.
01:01You did brilliant.
01:02You did brilliant.
01:04You did brilliant.
01:04You did brilliant.
01:10You did brilliant.
01:22Hello, and welcome to the Celebrity Traitors' Uncloaked Grand Finale.
01:26I'm Ed Gamble, and we're going to be unpacking everything
01:28from that jaw-dropping last episode with all our finalists.
01:31We're here at the BBC Radio Theatre with a studio audience
01:34full of our all-star cast of Celebrity Faithful and Traitors,
01:37and how amazing do they all look? You look incredible.
01:44Coming up, Claudia Winkleman is here to finally discuss
01:47the show she usually has to avoid talking about.
01:49Kat, Jo, David, and Nick will be on this stage
01:51to decompress from that unbelievably stressful final day,
01:55and our winner, Alan, will be joining us
01:57to tell us what it takes to go all the way.
01:59Get yourself comfy, because this is the Celebrity Traitors' Uncloaked Finale!
02:06What a final episode.
02:08I mean, I was so stressed that I, well,
02:10let's just say Celia would have been proud.
02:13We're going to be speaking to the finalists shortly,
02:15but first off, I am joined by the fingerless glove-wearing legend
02:18that is Claudia Winkleman.
02:22Hello.
02:23Claudia.
02:25Welcome. Welcome back to Uncloaked.
02:27You've just seen that very, very tense finale.
02:29How did you feel watching it back?
02:31Quite emotional.
02:33Can I just show everybody my T-shirt?
02:35Absolutely.
02:35There he is.
02:41Because even though, obviously, I was there,
02:44yes, just watching it back,
02:46because I don't watch the other ones back,
02:47so, yeah, it was a lot,
02:48and it's just amazing that our cast are here.
02:50The atmosphere in this room was electric.
02:53Yeah.
02:54I mean, I'm not a football fan,
02:55but I'd imagine this is what it feels like
02:56to watch England score a big goal.
02:58You see?
02:58It was amazing.
03:00Yeah.
03:00What was it like at the time, though?
03:02Obviously, watching it back is a different experience.
03:04What was it like when you were in the room for that endgame?
03:06Well, unbelievable.
03:08I mean, my knees were knocking,
03:09because I'm incredibly nervous,
03:11and it is, without sounding like a total tool,
03:15it is an absolute privilege
03:16to always be at those roundtables.
03:20But, yeah, the endgame was quite something.
03:22And when the third green pouch went in,
03:25and I realised what was happening.
03:27People have seen this now.
03:28I'd imagine there's already videos going up online
03:30of pubs, people watching it,
03:32and pints just flying in the air.
03:34It was...
03:35Because you feel...
03:36I feel so protective of them all.
03:38You feel for them individually.
03:39I love Nick,
03:40because all he could just say was,
03:42Joe.
03:43And Joe was utterly brilliant.
03:46You know, that moment he went,
03:47I've worked out who they are.
03:49It was like a pull focus.
03:50I was like, watch him go.
03:52And then Kat, who was extraordinary throughout,
03:56was so brilliant in the turret,
03:57and the fact they caught...
03:59You know, the whole thing.
04:00It was sort of highly emotional.
04:02You gave a speech to them quite early on in the game
04:05about how people lie to them all of the time
04:07because they're celebrities.
04:08I loved that speech.
04:09Do you think that sort of thing
04:10makes the game harder for celebrities?
04:13I don't know that it makes it harder for them,
04:15but I thought there were two things.
04:18One, the traitors were utterly brilliant.
04:21Yeah.
04:21And two...
04:23So there was only so much they could do.
04:26But it is a hard game.
04:28You know, the absolute star of this whole thing
04:31is the game is addictive.
04:33It takes over.
04:33It's hard for anyone.
04:34But what I also love is,
04:36because people watch at home sometimes,
04:37and sometimes people will say to me,
04:39how do they not know?
04:41You don't know.
04:42It's very easy when you're watching at home,
04:45but when you're sitting there,
04:46it is almost impossible.
04:47Now, I know you're very fond of everyone
04:49who played the game,
04:50but I know you had a particular fondness
04:52for one player.
04:53I'm talking about the national treasure
04:55that is Celia in green.
04:56Oh, my gosh.
04:57What is it in particular
04:58that draws you to Celia?
05:00She is so twinkly.
05:02I've never met anybody that twinkly.
05:05I've always loved Celia.
05:06So when they said,
05:07Celia's taking part,
05:08I was like,
05:09are you joking?
05:10The actual...
05:11Or, like, a tribute.
05:13No, the actual.
05:15And I'm not allowed.
05:16I have to be like Cruella de Vil,
05:17which I find difficult,
05:18because I just wanted to go,
05:19oh, I love your song,
05:20and you're brilliant.
05:22And so I'm not allowed.
05:23I'm just, like, strict
05:24and fluorescent orange.
05:26And there was one point
05:27when I'm standing next to Celia
05:28and just at the corner of my mouth,
05:29I thought the producers
05:30weren't here this.
05:30I just went, obsessed.
05:34And she was like,
05:35thank you.
05:37Celia,
05:38it's wonderful to hear,
05:39you know,
05:40how much Claudia loves you,
05:41but we want to know,
05:41have you got any better at snooping?
05:43No, not really.
05:45Really not.
05:46I'm just, um...
05:48The thing is
05:49that you said you were obsessed
05:50after I'd admitted I was two-faced.
05:53That's why we were all obsessed by you,
05:55because Celia...
05:56Well, my other favourite thing
05:57that Celia did
05:57is she would say,
05:58you are dazzling,
06:00and then write their name on the board.
06:02It was so compelling.
06:04Someone else who didn't make the final,
06:06Nico,
06:06unfortunately,
06:07you went out quite early,
06:08but how was it watching that back?
06:10Do you think there was
06:10some good gameplay in there?
06:12Um, yeah,
06:13I mean,
06:13Joe,
06:13I was very impressed with.
06:16I just can't believe
06:17it was bottled at the end,
06:18at the final,
06:19in the final moment.
06:20But yeah,
06:20it's a very tough game.
06:21I do feel,
06:22in a way,
06:23like I made it to the final,
06:24because I have the same name
06:26as Nick,
06:27so...
06:28You were there?
06:29Yeah,
06:29so, um,
06:30yeah,
06:31almost won.
06:33Now,
06:33we're going to be hearing
06:34from our finalists
06:35and our winner quite soon,
06:36but first,
06:37Claudia,
06:38you are the hostess
06:38with the mostess,
06:39and thank you so much
06:40for entertaining us
06:41week after week,
06:42and I know you hate this bit.
06:43I hate it.
06:43I know you hate the compliments.
06:44Well,
06:44you're going to hate this bit
06:45even more,
06:45because let's have a look
06:46at your best bits.
06:50Tiny word of warning,
06:51don't relax too much.
06:52Tomorrow,
06:53the killing spree.
06:54begins.
06:55This isn't personal,
06:56but it is tradition.
06:59I know you're thinking it,
07:01so I'm going to say it.
07:02They've just dug
07:03their own graves.
07:05Nothing like the sound
07:06of screaming celebrities.
07:08Stephen Price
07:09in the water,
07:10they go.
07:11Faithful,
07:12you are breaking my heart.
07:14You are famous.
07:16People lie to you
07:17all the time.
07:19I love that show.
07:20It's a great jacket.
07:23I listen to that
07:24particular podcast twice.
07:28What just happened?
07:30I just farted,
07:31Claudia.
07:32But I always own up.
07:34I know.
07:34I always own up too.
07:36Well done.
07:38We'll get you out
07:39with the others
07:40shortly.
07:42No immediate rush.
07:43Come to me.
07:45Come on.
07:45Go quick.
07:46Go quick.
07:47Go quick.
08:11Go quick.
08:13soon, but with me now, I'm thrilled to welcome our four runners-up, Kat, Joe, David, and Nick!
08:23Well, we're very excited to have you with us here for this very special finale.
08:27Kat, let's talk about that final roundtable, because going into it, you and Alan were very
08:32confident. I mean, erring on cocky, would you say? You're sort of very sure that Joe was on
08:37your side? Yeah, we were. You know, I was hoodwinked by Joe. I did think that you were going to
08:45be the deciding vote, because I was like, I knew Nick was going to vote for me, and then
08:49I knew realistically David would vote for me too. So then I was like, it's going to be
08:54Joe. And I did think that you were going to go for David, and then it was when the conversation
09:00on the roundtable, it was varied, but then towards the end of the conversation, I was
09:05like, mm, I feel like Joe's going to vote for me, and you couldn't look me in the eye.
09:09So that's when I was like, yeah, my time's done. I had a good run. And then I got dashed.
09:15But even when we were in Scotland speaking, I think you were still under the impression
09:18that Joe changed his mind last minute. How does it feel watching it back and knowing that
09:22that was pretty much Joe's plan all along? I think it's just fabulous television. I just
09:27think it's so funny that me and Alan are like, yeah, yeah, we've got this, we've got this,
09:30and Joe's like, I know it's them two, and I'm going to get her back. I just think it's
09:34great telling. At what point did you start to suspect Kat? Because I think from our perspective
09:39as a viewer, you were sort of, you know, sniffing around some traitors, but then in
09:43that episode eight, you were like, it's Alan and Kat, and just blew everyone away.
09:46Yeah, I think I worked it out on day one that it was Jonathan, Kat and Alan. But I was
09:54having
09:54so much fun in there.
09:55Yeah. No, the shield cock-ups from Jonathan and Alan, they were the sort of giveaways for
10:03me that I was like, hmm, I like shields. You don't seem to like them as much as me.
10:08Now, Nick, you were suspicious of Kat from, I think, episode five.
10:12Yeah.
10:12But you decided to keep that to yourself.
10:15Yeah.
10:15Which is a very clever plan, but how do you feel about how the plan played out in the end?
10:19Oh, I think I thought I was being clever, and then it all just backfired a little bit.
10:23I think as soon as you, there was one round table where you voted for David that felt,
10:28just didn't ring true for some reason, and I thought, and at first I thought it was you
10:32and Lucy. I remember thinking it was you, Lucy, and Jonathan.
10:35Yeah.
10:35And I thought you and Lucy were in cahoots. But that was wrong. I mean, I was wrong pretty
10:40much every single step of the way in every episode, I think.
10:42I don't think that's true at all. I think there were people that were more wrong than you.
10:46Okay.
10:46And I'm naming no names.
10:49David, next question for you.
10:55What do you think it was about Kat's game that meant that so few people suspected her
11:00right up until the end?
11:01Well, I think a number of people did suspect Kat, but we did this thing where we would
11:06suspect somebody, have a conversation with one other person, and then totally forget
11:10that at the round table. We just kept doing the same thing.
11:14We had, you know, I think we had a conversation, I think episode five, about Kat, and then
11:19we both voted for somebody else at the round table. So there was not much...
11:22I think you voted for me.
11:24Yeah, I think I was, yeah.
11:25That's what I meant by somebody else.
11:29Kat, the night you go into the turret to meet your fellow traitors and you see it's
11:33Alan and Jonathan, how confident are you at that point that you can move through the
11:37game as a group of traitors?
11:39I just found it so funny when it was Alan. I couldn't hold it in. I think I was really
11:45confident because I just thought it was quite a rogue trio. Like I really didn't expect it
11:52to be me. And then when Claudia tapped me, I was like, oh my God, what the heck? So when
11:57I saw it was Alan, I was like, when I saw it was Alan and Jonathan, I was like, I
12:01feel
12:01like we can get pretty far because Jonathan's a great talker, as we could see. He got through
12:05so many round tables. And then Alan, all he had to do was go, oh, and everyone just
12:10went, oh, it's not him. So it was a fabulous trio.
12:14Well, yeah, one of the big dogs is out the kennel. Jonathan is with us here. You seem
12:19very pleased that Kat and Alan were your comrades, Jonathan. Do you think it's the difference
12:22in personalities that made you confident about the group?
12:25I think I was just, I mean, I was just happy to see someone else up there with me.
12:29I mean, but I mean, I know Kat a little bit and I knew how calm she is and I
12:33know how
12:33she presents as being very calm. So I thought that would be useful. And when Alan came in,
12:38I just think, you know, he's so much fun to spend time in. I mean, looking back now, Alan
12:42played a far more kind of tactical game than I thought he was at the time. He was far clever
12:46with it. And I knew you were very tactical as well. A lot of the time, I mean, a lot
12:49of
12:49the time we got there and I said, I think we should kill so-and-so. And they both talked
12:53me round and we wound up killing someone who I really thought we shouldn't kill. But they
12:57had a better grasp of the game, I think, really.
12:59Are you happy that it was a traitor's win in the end?
13:01Oh yeah, that's all I really wanted. I mean, you know, and that's what I think is probably
13:05different about this version of the game to the regular version is that it does become
13:08more like the two teams against each other. But I really wanted to see one of the, or
13:12ideally two of them get through to the end. And you did, of course. But having watched
13:16last week's episode, there's no way I thought either of you were going to survive. And for
13:19that, I think we do need to thank Nick.
13:23You're very welcome.
13:25Yeah, let's thank him, shall we?
13:29I cannot believe.
13:34We'll get to it, Joe. Don't worry, we'll get to it. You will have your chance to have
13:38a say.
13:39The handy P collapse.
13:42It's amazing being in the room with your stare. It really is unsettling, Joe.
13:46My stare?
13:47Your stare, yeah.
13:48Oh yeah, the stare?
13:48Yeah, the stare.
13:49What is the stare?
13:50It's your face.
13:54How did it feel watching the final back?
13:56Yeah, it was fine.
13:58No issues whatsoever.
14:01Me and Nick are right, me and David are right.
14:04Just struggle to make eye contact with them from now on.
14:06I mean, I was sitting in the row in front of you watching that, and when you saw you
14:11get banished, you did shout scumbags at them.
14:15Did I?
14:17No, I didn't mean that, I didn't mean that.
14:19I was, I just couldn't work out.
14:21I still, I don't think until we spoke, I said, what was it?
14:25And it was because I was, like you just said, being polite.
14:30And saying, I wasn't saying sorry to Kat because I was Judas in her, like you did me.
14:35I was so convinced.
14:37I was saying sorry to Kat because I really liked her and enjoyed my time together.
14:42I was like, sorry mate.
14:44What happened?
14:45When Joe and I text each other after we got out of the castle, he continually refers
14:50to me as Judas, and then occasionally replaces the you with the hearts, which is quite nice.
14:58You're arguably, Joe, the most accurate traitor hunter, because you got Kat and Alan correct.
15:03I mean, you're more on a traitor's safari, you didn't actually hunt all of the traitors.
15:09And of course, you were the leader of the big dog theory.
15:12I mean, how did you do it?
15:13Because you seem to have all these brilliant theories, but you couldn't quite convince everyone of them.
15:18Well, yeah.
15:20They were sort of stolen theories, majority.
15:23I was like, oh, that sounds good.
15:24Yeah, we'll go with that one and then amalgamate one.
15:27And then trying to convince the rest of the players to get round it was a lot harder than I
15:34thought.
15:35Kate, why do you think people latched on to the big dog theory and not other theories?
15:40For example, the sun-dried tomato theory.
15:43I can't, I can't imagine.
15:45I'm genuinely flabbergasted.
15:47Here we go.
15:52I mean, the sun-dried tomato theory.
15:54It's very, very common in criminal law, the sun-dried tomato theory.
15:58So yeah, it's weird, isn't it?
16:00David, I want to ask you about that final round table,
16:03because obviously it came to two apiece for you and Kat.
16:06You'd obviously had a lot of suspicion on you throughout the game, including that incredibly tense round table with Mark.
16:12Yeah, I remember.
16:13Did you think that this was it for you?
16:16Did you think your luck had finally run out?
16:18I was mainly thinking that this was our kind of last chance to try to get a traitor.
16:23I wasn't really thinking about me getting voted out.
16:25And I had come round to that point by talking to Nick in particular, thinking it was Kat.
16:31So I was mainly focused on, can we get a traitor?
16:34Joe's grand plan went up in flames, sadly.
16:38How did you feel in that moment when David and Nick voted for you?
16:41Because you seemed genuinely surprised.
16:43I think you've been amazing throughout the game of putting on a face
16:46and really, really sort of psyching people out a little bit and maintaining this character.
16:51And you're doing it to me now, and I know what you're doing, Joe.
16:54But in that moment, you seemed to drop everything and you were genuinely surprised.
16:57I was, it was a combination of like gutted.
17:01I was like, oh no, I really like, this is backfired massively.
17:06What have I got wrong?
17:07And then I just want, I was desperate to get out and go, right, where's Kat?
17:11I need like, to see you.
17:13I knew you were a traitor, but I was like, I just need to see you.
17:15I'm sorry I voted you, even though it was a traitor.
17:18It was, yeah, it was a surprise, but there's no hard feelings at all.
17:21Because ultimately, it was just a really, really big, fun game.
17:24You'd said you had some suspicions over Alan.
17:27I did.
17:27And then you didn't vote for him. You didn't vote to carry on the game.
17:31I didn't vote for Alan once in the whole show, I think.
17:35But going into that end game, you were like, I've got some suspicion.
17:38And the way the game works, if no one's saying whether they're traitor or faithful,
17:42the safe thing to do would be to carry the game on.
17:45Yeah.
17:45But you didn't do that.
17:46Can you talk us through the thought process?
17:48I just don't know what I was thinking.
17:51I feel like, Alan's just very, Alan is incredibly persuasive.
17:58And because he's so relaxed and he is so Alan.
18:00And he's so, he was just so convincing throughout the whole game.
18:04And I just, I was like, you know what, I think, I think we've got it.
18:07I think we've now just got that final traitor, which I believed to be Joe at that point.
18:11How did it feel watching the final back?
18:13It was, I mean, I was sat behind you, so I was just an absolute wreck.
18:19It's so great. It's such great telly.
18:21Can I, big shout out, I don't know the name of the, who composes the score,
18:24but the score is absolutely phenomenal.
18:29Because it is, it is so, it feels like you're watching a Marvel movie or something.
18:34It is just cliffhanger, suspense, release, suspension, tense.
18:38It is, it's, all the emotions.
18:41And that last, yeah, that last 15, 20 minutes, I was just clinging on to Joe and shouting cat.
18:47It was brilliant, Nick.
18:47Me and Nick bumped into each other in town the other day,
18:51and he dragged me down a dark alley.
18:53It was very traitors-esque.
18:55Dragged me down a dark alley and went, everyone's going to hate me.
18:58But we don't hate him, do we, at all?
19:00No.
19:02That wasn't everyone, okay.
19:05About 30%.
19:08And then came the time to reveal your identities.
19:11But before we discuss that with our winner, Alan, I have my own reveal to do.
19:15I've been teasing on Uncloaked about my secret cameo in the main show,
19:18and I've been telling you at home to watch out for my Easter egg.
19:21Did you spot me?
19:22Well, I can now exclusively reveal where I was hiding.
19:29For me, the only time I saw you ever intimidated in the game, Joe,
19:32do you remember the mission in the cabin?
19:36Hmm.
19:36So, as you approach, there's druids lining the path.
19:40Yes.
19:41And then there's one druid in the middle.
19:43They swing your door open and pull you out of the car.
19:46Pull me out of the car.
19:46You seemed very scared by that guy.
19:48My adrenaline did spike.
19:50Yeah.
19:50And I was like, I'm going for this one.
19:52From what I could tell, the druid wasn't scared of you at all.
19:55And he did really, really well.
19:57He did do really well.
19:57Yeah.
19:58Even though he's not normally a druid.
20:00What's that...
20:02Would you like to tell me...
20:04Yes.
20:04Who was that druid?
20:05Me, I was the druid.
20:06You were that druid?
20:07I was that druid, yeah.
20:08Are you taking the pick?
20:11I was the druid.
20:12I was ready to fill you in.
20:16Because you kept going, you kept going,
20:18oh, you're just going to touch me, are you?
20:21This is so good.
20:30Yes, I wasn't the drummer from episode eight.
20:33I was, in fact, a druid.
20:35Nick, you were the other person I dragged from the Land Rover there.
20:39Yeah.
20:40Do you want to...
20:40I mean, we did tell you, we did film a reveal.
20:42Do you want to tell everyone what happened when I revealed to you
20:45that I was the druid?
20:46Well, from memory...
20:47I mean, I knew that it was you right from the start,
20:49because I could see your eyes.
20:52And Ed and I were at uni together.
20:54I was slightly after him.
20:55And so I've known Ed for ages.
20:56I was like, well, that's Ed.
21:00I was gutted when you told me.
21:01I was so excited to reveal it to you.
21:03And I knew instantly.
21:03And there was a real, actually, sense of...
21:05I was like, oh, one of my friends is here.
21:08It was really nice.
21:09But, yeah, I mean, I knew it was you instantly.
21:12Well, now's the time you've all been waiting for.
21:14After sweating and worrying he'd be worse than Linda
21:17to cold-bloodedly killing his friends,
21:19our winner, Alan, is about to join me.
21:21But first, here's the moment he spoke to me in the castle
21:23just after he pulled the charity prize money
21:25from underneath Nick and David's noses.
21:34Hello, how are you?
21:35Oh, the winner.
21:36The winner.
21:38Oh.
21:41Welcome to Uncloaked, Alan.
21:43Oh, thanks for having me, Ed.
21:45Congratulations, the winner.
21:46I know, still hasn't sunk in.
21:48It's insane, isn't it?
21:49It is insane.
21:50When Claudia initially selected you as a traitor,
21:53did you ever, in your wildest dreams,
21:55see yourself at that endgame
21:56and winning the whole of the show?
21:58No, no, no, no, no.
22:00I did not even think I would get this far.
22:03My agent, this is a little exclusive,
22:05had actually booked in things for the second week.
22:08Because he said, Alan,
22:10he said, your poker face, you'll be out.
22:13Two days in, and I actually believed him.
22:15And that's even before you knew
22:17whether you were a traitor or a faithful.
22:18You just assumed, whichever you were,
22:20you were gonna go out early.
22:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:22I mean, I'm like that when I go through customs,
22:23I start sweating.
22:24You know, when I go into a newsagent,
22:26it says, no shoplifting.
22:27I'm like, oh, like that.
22:29You know, it's just, I just feel I'm guilty,
22:31and I've got the worst poker face going.
22:34I mean, it's like a tug of war with my face.
22:38That endgame as well felt like the first time
22:41that we saw serious Alan in the game.
22:43Yeah, yeah.
22:43Was that a challenge?
22:45Did you suddenly feel different at that endgame?
22:47I did feel different, and it's that weird irony.
22:50The more missions you do,
22:52the more you spend time with people.
22:55You are like a family, and that's cheesy and bleh,
22:58but it is true.
23:00Now, of course, when you see the money behind,
23:02I mean, £87,500 for a charity,
23:07that's when, yeah, come on, Alan, stop giggling.
23:10Celia said something lovely to me before I murdered her.
23:13She said, Alan, you're surprising.
23:17You surprised me the way you ran across that bridge.
23:21And I thought, well, that's the best you can do
23:24is surprise yourself.
23:25So, yeah.
23:26Alan, are you proud of how well you played the game?
23:29So proud.
23:30Really, really proud.
23:32I found out about myself.
23:34I can be a chameleon.
23:36I can chat to people.
23:38I can lie.
23:39I can, when the pressure's on, I can do it.
23:42When Stephen Fry talks or David talks,
23:45I go quiet, I'm not worthy, I'm not intelligent,
23:48but maybe sometimes you do need to question,
23:51stand up for yourself and go,
23:52actually, I think this.
23:55Yeah.
23:55So, yeah, yeah.
23:56I think, well, I think you winning
23:58has absolutely proved that.
23:59Yeah, idiots can do well.
24:07The winner of the first UK celebrity trade talk,
24:11it's Alan Carr!
24:23There it is.
24:25Alan, congratulations again.
24:27What a huge triumph.
24:29Is it fair to say that no one's more shocked than you
24:31that you managed to pull this off?
24:32I am so shocked.
24:33It's true what I said.
24:34I had to ring up the woman who was dog-sitting my dogs
24:37because I thought I'd be back after two days.
24:39I said, you've got them for another week.
24:41And it just kept getting more and more and more.
24:43I completely surprised.
24:45I don't know how this happened.
24:47I really don't.
24:48Look, and when we were watching it back,
24:50you got a big standing ovation right at the end there.
24:52Oh, I know, I know.
24:54It's so amazing.
24:55I feel, I do feel bad for doing it,
24:57but, I mean, what can you do?
24:59It's, you know, I mean, I felt bad.
25:01But you played the game and you were incredible at it.
25:03I know, I know, I know, I know.
25:05How did it feel watching the end game back?
25:07Oh, God, so emotional.
25:09I mean, me crying as well.
25:11I mean, because I couldn't remember how,
25:13because Joe was on to us,
25:15and I couldn't remember how you got voted out,
25:18but then I lied and said,
25:19you'd told us all to vote for David.
25:21And I'd forgotten I'd lied.
25:23What have I become?
25:26You did quite a lot of lying, actually.
25:28I did loads of lying and I started loving it.
25:30I just hope there's not like a murder in my street.
25:33You know what I mean?
25:33I opened the door, hello, officer.
25:38I didn't see anything.
25:40Yeah, I mean, it just comes really naturally to me.
25:43I mean, yeah.
25:46Can we talk about your journey from sweaty Alan
25:49to serial killer Alan?
25:50Yes, please.
25:51What was the moment that you dried out
25:53and thought, I can do this?
25:55Well, it was...
25:57When I killed Paloma...
26:02Give me a break.
26:05Because the thing is, when I killed Paloma, yeah,
26:07I felt sick inside.
26:10And you've got to remember,
26:11it was such a cruel twist to touch someone's face.
26:15Now, you're the only one.
26:16Maybe...
26:16And Jonathan was a traitor.
26:17I couldn't do it.
26:18I mean, if I touched any of these other faces,
26:20I'd be sent to HR.
26:23You know, old roof, hello.
26:25You know, I can't.
26:28And then when she came down for breakfast the next day,
26:30I went, oh, because I felt so sick.
26:32I thought, oh, good, she hasn't been murdered.
26:34I was so pleased.
26:35Lovely.
26:35And then we go outside.
26:37You're dressed as Queen Victoria.
26:39We then go to a funeral.
26:41I then see one of my best friends put in a coffin
26:44and sent off.
26:45I went, this is not going well.
26:47This is not what I wanted, you know.
26:49But then I got a taste for it.
26:51I couldn't stop.
26:52And then after I killed Paloma,
26:54then I got all the gays getting,
26:55because when we killed Tom Daley...
26:58Oh, Grey Alan killing off all the eye candy.
27:01I'm like, hello?
27:05And then...
27:07And then I saw him in the shower soaping himself up,
27:11and I was like, ah!
27:12I killed too soon.
27:15Maybe one more week.
27:17Maybe one more week.
27:21But then you both...
27:24I think it's fair to say,
27:25there are a few moments throughout your time on the show
27:28where we might have thought as viewers,
27:29I'm not sure if Alan can pull this off.
27:30One of them was certainly when you had to say,
27:33I am a faithful to everyone.
27:34Oh, my God.
27:35And laughed halfway through.
27:36How do you adjust your game plan after things like that?
27:39And do you adjust your game plan?
27:41Well, I thought I was finished then.
27:44I thought I was finished when I went,
27:45I'm a faithful!
27:47I thought, oh, that's it.
27:48And then Joe was on to me.
27:50And yeah, I just sort of gave up, really.
27:53But I'm...
27:54But that's one thing I found out about myself.
27:56I am, like, a bit of a pushover,
27:59but when Joe is on to me,
28:02I'm like one of those cats you get in Greece.
28:04You know those ones that are like...
28:06You go, oh, hello!
28:09You know, you go, oh, hello!
28:11You look quite...
28:14Claudia, did you ever doubt Alan's ability to pull this off?
28:18Yeah.
28:21No, I can say, I hope you don't mind this,
28:23but Alan started as Linda and ended as Harry.
28:27He had a extraordinary...
28:29Because at the beginning, when you came up to me,
28:31I can't do it.
28:33And he was like, I'm sweating.
28:35I can't keep a straight face.
28:38But he was absolutely...
28:40A, you're utterly brilliant, incredibly clever,
28:43and totally consistent.
28:44So Alan was Alan.
28:46And if you didn't suspect him from day one,
28:48it's Alan.
28:49He can't say I'm a faithful.
28:50He's forgotten he's had a shield.
28:52My favourite Alan moment, almost,
28:54was you talking to Celia.
28:56And Celia said, can I trust you?
28:58And you went, you can trust me.
29:00And you had snakes all over your top.
29:02And I was like...
29:04It's right there, guys.
29:06But it's interesting.
29:07I thought I'm quite happy at the beginning to be a faithful.
29:10And then, of course, when you're sitting there,
29:12and you've got the blindfold on and you pick...
29:14I mean, I don't know what shoes you're wearing,
29:16but you sounded like a shire horse.
29:21I get a bit flamingo.
29:22And then when you went round and didn't touch me,
29:25there was a little bit like,
29:27oh, OK, I'm going to be a faithful, that's fine.
29:29So I realised deep inside, I probably did want to be a traitor.
29:32And then, of course, you come round again,
29:33and then when you squeezed my shoulders, I was like, oh, my God.
29:35But you were so sweet.
29:36Because those chats where I have with everyone,
29:38they're much longer than you see.
29:40And as I said, there are some people who just don't even...
29:42Mark, like, I only want to be a faithful.
29:46And many others.
29:48And then you going, did you really say that?
29:51I was like, literally word for word is what he said.
29:54And you said, yeah, I want to be a traitor,
29:56and then burst out laughing.
29:57And we were like, oh, yeah, have fun.
29:59I think if I did have a strategy, I think it was...
30:03Look at me now, now I've won, I've got a strategy.
30:05LAUGHTER
30:07I think what I did was, I picked one...
30:10I mean, if I was pushed to do a strategy,
30:11like with Claire, I wouldn't let her go about the lever.
30:15And then with Mark, you know, when you get all Braveheart,
30:19I want to win!
30:20Like that.
30:21I said, why are you being all like this?
30:23And then poor old Kate, I was making out,
30:25she was Goldie Hawn.
30:27This dizzy blonde.
30:29I just kept saying to people, why?
30:32Why?
30:32You know, she's a broadcaster.
30:34She's live on the telly every morning.
30:37Why?
30:37That's what I was doing.
30:38I mean, have you seen that brilliant thing on social media?
30:41Kate Garraway repeats everything.
30:43Have you seen it?
30:44Someone's been recruited.
30:46Someone's been recruited!
30:48Sun-dried tomatoes.
30:50Sun-dried tomatoes!
30:51LAUGHTER
30:53But I think if I had a strategy, I'd just picked one thing
30:56and really went, oh, I don't know about them.
30:58They give me the eebie-jeebies.
31:00I mean, I hate to bang on too much about the Trojan horse mission,
31:04but I do want to chat to you a little bit, Claire.
31:06Are you still kicking yourself for pulling the lever?
31:09Oh, God, yes.
31:10And will do for a very long time.
31:12It was awful.
31:13As Alice, my wife, said to me, for God's sake,
31:15there would have been no-one left on stage.
31:1626?
31:17What were you thinking?
31:18I was like, well, I just thought, start high and come down,
31:21because we'll get more chances.
31:22They're working it out.
31:23Mark and Stephen are working it out.
31:25And I'll just start trying.
31:27And I was conscious of time.
31:29By the way, it makes total sense.
31:31It makes total sense.
31:33You're very sweet.
31:33Normally...
31:33No, but when you see those kinds of locks,
31:36you know, like a padlock, you have a couple of goes.
31:39That's what you did on the train, in fact.
31:41So it made total sense to me.
31:43No, I still feel really bad about it,
31:45and then I sort of shrank.
31:46But somebody talked to me the other day about it,
31:48and he's a legal advocate.
31:49And he said, although you made the mistake,
31:52at least you did put your hand up straight away
31:54and go, oh, my God, I am so sorry.
31:56And then Charlotte gave her shield up straight away,
31:58for which she didn't get enough credit.
31:59So I'm giving her credit now.
32:01Yes.
32:01And we carried on, and we still won the mission.
32:03So actually, it didn't cost us anything money-wise.
32:06Yeah.
32:07I just looked a major tit.
32:08So I'm happy to take that for the team.
32:10I'll just take the idiot, you know.
32:12No.
32:13No-one thinks that, Claire.
32:15Mark, I've just noticed you're wearing a T-shirt there.
32:17Will you tell us what the T-shirt says?
32:20It says, Jonathan fucking Ross.
32:26I would like to say I have given him one, too.
32:29Oh, right.
32:29As his early Christmas present.
32:31That's brilliant.
32:33We have to talk about that final mission,
32:35because that was amazing.
32:37It looked incredible.
32:38The explosion at the end.
32:40Kat, how much did you enjoy that final mission,
32:42your one last chance to get money for the pot?
32:44It was really fun.
32:46I mean, if I'm being honest,
32:48I really probably didn't do anything.
32:49It was mainly Joe.
32:50As I was to, like, grab something,
32:53then I saw the, like,
32:54having to take off the thing off the coffin,
32:56and I was like,
32:56mmm, that's gonna hurt my hands.
32:58That's why you went and did it.
33:00You just sort of did everything,
33:01and I was like,
33:02aw, yay!
33:03The boys are doing things.
33:07I think my favourite moment of that mission, though,
33:09was Nick dropping the lid on Joe's head.
33:12Oh!
33:13Repeatedly.
33:14And I just hope you are friends now.
33:16It's a precursor of what was to come, really, I think.
33:18I should have known then.
33:20Three times, mate.
33:21Three times.
33:22It sounds really loud when you watch it back as well.
33:25Oh, it was loud.
33:26I mean, it literally is a wooden,
33:27it was a wooden lid dropping on his head repeatedly.
33:30Yeah.
33:30While we were basically watching the new Chuckle Brothers.
33:34Incredible.
33:35Alan, you forgot you had a shield,
33:36and obviously Joe picked up on this.
33:39Joe, why do you think no one else got on board with this?
33:42Because it seemed to be one of the clearest bits of evidence
33:44you had that Alan was a traitor.
33:47Again, a combination of not, like,
33:49really backing myself to convince everyone,
33:52but also I was madly in love with Alan as well.
33:55Like, even when I went after him
33:57and he came back at me like the Greek cat,
34:00I then was like,
34:01well, bless.
34:03I was like, mm, okay, fair enough.
34:05So, yeah.
34:07I think there might have been something inside me
34:08that was like,
34:09I quite like Alan still being in the game.
34:11Because we were duped, weren't we?
34:13He was being really friendly to us, weren't we?
34:15Yeah.
34:15And we were like, we couldn't believe our luck,
34:17because Joe was coming and sitting with us going,
34:20you know, I think it's Nick and David.
34:21We thought we'd won.
34:22And we're like, yeah, Joe, yeah.
34:24Yeah.
34:24Like, high-fiving and all that, and then...
34:27That bit where you went, oh, bless him, as I walked off,
34:29and I've only just seen that.
34:30I went, oh, okay.
34:31I see.
34:32But then when you put cat on the sleigh, I couldn't...
34:35I mean, that was like a punch in the stomach.
34:38Yeah.
34:38That was, I was like, don't leave me here.
34:40Don't leave me here.
34:41Nick and David, obviously,
34:43neither of you went for Alan in the end.
34:45What is it about Alan Carl
34:47that made you eventually decide he was a faithful?
34:50Alan could have come down to breakfast in a green cloak,
34:53and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor.
34:56I just thought someone who was a traitor
34:58would look a bit less guilty the whole time,
35:01and you just...
35:02Alan was being himself.
35:03And also, you know, it's the thing,
35:05you just made me laugh the whole time.
35:07I was too busy laughing to be suspicious.
35:10I think it's something that...
35:12I think something that...
35:13I think something that Tom said, actually,
35:15really, really early on,
35:16was that comedians or some of the stand-ups
35:20could sort of slightly deflect by...
35:22I said that.
35:23I think you said that.
35:24Sorry, Kat, I apologise.
35:25And it's so true, and actually...
35:27But Alan was just being Alan,
35:29and it's so hilarious, like, inherently hilarious,
35:31that it just completely throwed us off.
35:33Were you worried about the way Alan was acting, though, Kat?
35:36Because we saw loads of moments
35:38where you just had to tell him to be quiet.
35:40Yeah, but even at the last...
35:42Even on the last episode, just going,
35:44please, don't shout.
35:45I was shocked when I was cutting up that lemon,
35:47and I watched it on the telly.
35:49What are we gonna do, Kat?
35:52I didn't think I was that loud.
35:53I feel like, like, after a few days in,
35:56or a few episodes in,
35:57I was kind of like, the best...
35:59Like, exactly what I said to Nick.
36:02Comedians, the best way to disarm people
36:03is make them laugh.
36:04So people would be suspicious of Alan,
36:06and then say something to him,
36:07and he'd just make them laugh,
36:08and then they'd go,
36:09Oh, ha-ha, never mind.
36:10So I was like, Alan's never gonna get caught,
36:12because no-one could think that he could do it.
36:14I mean, even with Jonathan going,
36:16I did it.
36:17Yeah!
36:18Yes!
36:18By the fire bit, I did it.
36:23Jonathan said,
36:24I'm gonna have to have a word with him about that.
36:27Alan, that final round table,
36:30when you saw that Joe had switched the vote
36:33that you thought he was gonna do,
36:34and he voted for Kat,
36:35what are you feeling in that moment?
36:38Oh, I mean, yeah, I was shocked.
36:41Like I said, I thought he was out,
36:43I thought we'd really got him.
36:44And then, yeah, and then I did,
36:46it was like a punch in the stomach.
36:48I felt physically sick.
36:50And then I felt so alone,
36:51because, you know,
36:52we were a great team together.
36:54So, yeah, yeah, it was...
36:56Really, you did pull the rug for it.
36:58He'd been so sweet, so lovely, and all that.
37:01But did you think you were, like...
37:02Did you think Nick was then gonna vote
37:04against you as well, then?
37:06Or did you think...
37:07I didn't really...
37:08You know, I just didn't really think.
37:11I don't...
37:12I don't know.
37:14It was quite emotional for you at the end, though.
37:16We saw you get quite...
37:17Oh, God, I know.
37:17Well, all the lying and all that,
37:19it all just came bubbling up.
37:21And it was...
37:22Yeah, and then I think, you know,
37:24about getting...
37:25But, you know, the charity I picked,
37:27I mean, I'm not...
37:29But, you know, listen,
37:30the charity I picked is a really great charity,
37:33and I know that that money
37:35is gonna do them so much good.
37:37Yeah.
37:37So that was there.
37:39I was thinking about all the lovely people I'd murdered.
37:42I felt bad.
37:44And then it all came up.
37:45And then when I saw that green come up,
37:47I was like, oh, my God.
37:48And then I got the joke like that.
37:50And then I thought, oh, God.
37:52And then, I mean, your reactions when it came out.
37:55Let's remind ourselves of that emotional moment.
37:58Oh.
38:00It's been tearing me apart.
38:02I'm so sorry.
38:04Oh, God.
38:05You did brilliantly, Alan.
38:06So you did brilliant.
38:07You did brilliant.
38:09You did brilliant.
38:09You did brilliant.
38:09It's a game.
38:10You did brilliantly.
38:12It's a game.
38:15And what you didn't see,
38:17I turned into that Greek cat and bit him.
38:22Alan, you said there it was tearing you apart.
38:25It was.
38:25Kat, can I ask you as someone who watched Alan
38:27write the murdered player's name
38:29every single night on the scroll,
38:31did you feel like it was tearing him apart?
38:33No.
38:34Honestly, like walking around that castle
38:37seeing how stressed Alan was all the time,
38:39I was like, how does nobody see that it's this man?
38:42The only one that could kind of see was Claire.
38:44And I was like, if I was a faithful,
38:45I would have gone to Claire quite early on and gone,
38:47I think the same thing as you,
38:48but let's not say anything until a bit later.
38:51Let's round up some numbers.
38:52And I think that's why you ended up, like, going.
38:54But I just...
38:55He was so nervous just throughout.
38:57So when I saw you cry, I just started crying
38:59because I was like, oh, Alan.
39:01I mean, I just wanted to climb inside that suit of armour
39:04that's in the hallway.
39:05Just close the thing down and just...
39:08Do you know what I mean?
39:09Just leave me alone, everyone.
39:12What about you, David?
39:12In that moment that Alan got emotional
39:14and you'd run over to comfort him, how are you feeling?
39:16Well, it was such a genuine moment.
39:17It was just poured out of Alan.
39:20And it was...
39:20It snapped us out of that thing.
39:22You know, this is a game.
39:23And the genuine nature of Alan's response just made us...
39:27You know, the obvious, the human thing to do
39:28was to, you know, give him a hug and say,
39:31it's a game, and you won.
39:32You did brilliantly.
39:33Now, Alan, before we go,
39:34there's a bit of unfinished business, to quote you.
39:37We've heard from Paloma on Uncloaked.
39:40But we want to hear, how was it murdering your good friend?
39:44It was...
39:46I can't even do it!
39:48It was so awful.
39:49It was so awful.
39:51And it's weird because, you know, I love...
39:53You know, I'm a fan of her music.
39:55I'm a fan of her for ages.
39:56You know, we are friends.
39:57We go on each other's podcast.
39:59So, yeah, it absolutely really hurt.
40:02It really did.
40:03Now, with the nation watching,
40:04do you think it's time for an apology?
40:06I mean, Paloma sat right there.
40:07I am so sorry.
40:11You know I am.
40:12And I want to tell everyone that I'm the father of a child.
40:19It was great.
40:20We had a make-up hug.
40:22One thing led to another.
40:25I haven't been known to term people.
40:27And it was an enjoyable experience for both of us, I hope.
40:31But I just also want to say that I think observing tonight
40:35and going through my whole plethora of hormonal emotions,
40:39I feel like the reason why Alan won
40:42and the reason why I was so sad
40:44was because we all love him so much.
40:48And I love you so much
40:50and I'm so happy that you won
40:52because it was bloody worth it then.
40:54Yeah.
40:54But I think that most people didn't vote for you
40:57because they were like,
40:57how can we vote someone that's so lovable?
40:59And it really concludes that thing.
41:02That you won it.
41:04You hurt me.
41:05And I loved you.
41:06But...
41:06Only love can hurt like that.
41:08Yeah, only love can hurt like that.
41:12And I just think...
41:15He won it because everyone loves him
41:17and the nation loves him
41:19and I'm just really happy that he won.
41:21Sorry for rubbing it in by putting your head on the coffin.
41:24It doesn't look anything like it.
41:27LAUGHTER
41:29On reflection,
41:30how do you think the experience has changed you?
41:32Oh my God, I absolutely loved it.
41:36I absolutely loved it.
41:37We spent the whole time, didn't we, laughing
41:39and it was absolutely joyous.
41:43And honestly, I...
41:45Would I do it again?
41:46I was going to say, I'd do it again.
41:47I think people would know if I turned up again.
41:50You are.
41:51Do it!
41:51I don't think that act.
41:52Oh, hello.
41:53Don't mind me.
41:53What am I like?
41:54I don't think it would work a second time.
41:57You would be out before the first round table.
41:59There's no way that's working again.
42:01I know, I know, I know.
42:01I know, but it was wonderful.
42:02I loved it.
42:03And the response has just been amazing.
42:05I'm cracking up at all the memes and it's just weird.
42:08I've never...
42:09Of all the shows I've done,
42:10I've never had anything like this.
42:12You know, people going past on a bike.
42:14Traitor!
42:15Who are you murdering now?
42:17I don't think so.
42:18It has been absolutely amazing.
42:20I recommend it.
42:21It's wonderful.
42:21Well, look, you've been incredible.
42:23We've had iconic line after iconic line.
42:25Particular favourites, Kate Gone Away.
42:28I'm worse than Linda.
42:29You can't suspect someone just because
42:31they've got a better vocabulary than you.
42:33What's a knighthood when you're dead?
42:35Oh, God.
42:39And of course, and this is my favourite.
42:41If Kate doesn't come down for breakfast,
42:43people would just think
42:43she's gone into a broom cupboard by mistake.
42:47You're so right!
42:51And Alan, I'm giving you an opportunity now
42:53to right a wrong,
42:54to pull something off properly.
