00:00This weekend, you lose an hour. Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 8th, and this year, it lands on the
00:07earliest possible date it can start.
00:09The last time it flipped this early was in 2020, so here's why.
00:13Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the clock change was moved to the second Sunday of March, and it
00:19now runs until the first Sunday in November.
00:21That means daylight saving time lasts 238 days. It's about 65% of your year spent in spring-forward mode.
00:29And while as many as 19 states have passed some form of legislation to get rid of the time change,
00:35it would take an act of Congress to make that permanent switch.
00:39That has not happened.
00:40There are a few exceptions. Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and some island territories,
00:47they don't change their clocks at all.
00:49But for most of you, Sunday morning starts one hour earlier, so don't forget to set your clock ahead and
00:54maybe set your coffee just a little stronger.
