00:07Global markets are on edge and the reason, as I'm sure you know, is not a stock ticker.
00:12It's a narrow stretch of water, the Strait of Hormuz.
00:15Just 20 percent, in fact 20 percent of the world's oil flows through just this choke
00:21point between Iran and Oman.
00:24Now, after recent strikes on Iran and Tehran's counterattacks, tensions are pushing that vital
00:29corridor, the Strait of Hormuz, towards disruption.
00:32Insurance firms are pulling back.
00:34Electronic navigation systems are reportedly being jammed.
00:37And the world's largest shipping company, Maersk, has pulled its vessels out of Hormuz
00:43for safety.
00:44So will oil prices spike in the coming days?
00:47Our next report tells you.
00:55When bombs fall in West Asia, it doesn't just stay limited to the region.
01:01It shakes your petrol pump, your grocery bill, your electricity bill.
01:07And right now, the world is holding its breath.
01:10Just days after the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran's retaliation, the oil cartel
01:19OPEC Plus met.
01:22This group includes heavyweights like Saudi Arabia and Russia, along with Gulf producers
01:27that are literally under missile fire.
01:32And they announced they would increase oil production by 206,000 barrels per day, starting April.
01:41Sounds big?
01:42It's not.
01:44Before the meeting, analysts expected about 137,000 barrels per day.
01:52So yes, this is larger than expected.
01:55But in the grand scheme of global oil flows, it's modest.
02:00And here's the real problem.
02:01Oil isn't just about how much you produce.
02:04It's about whether you can move it.
02:07Which brings us to the global oil choke point at the center of it all.
02:13There's a narrow strip of water called the Strait of Hormuz.
02:1820% of the world's seaborne oil passes through it.
02:21Earlier, Iran's Revolutionary Guards signaled that the Strait was closed.
02:28Electronic signals in the Gulf were reportedly jammed.
02:32Insurers began pulling back coverage.
02:35And then came the big one.
02:37Shipping giant Maersk, the world's largest container shipping company,
02:42said it was suspending vessel crossings through Hormuz for safety reasons.
02:47That's not a headline you ignore.
02:49That's the moment markets panic.
02:53Because if ships can't pass safely,
02:55it doesn't matter how much oil Saudi Arabia pumps,
02:58it can't reach the world.
03:01Before the conflict escalated,
03:03oil was hovering around $72 a barrel.
03:06If Hormuz stays disrupted,
03:09analysts warn prices could shoot to $120,
03:14even $150 per barrel.
03:17Now think about what that means.
03:20Air tickets,
03:21food transport,
03:23manufacturing costs,
03:25inflation again.
03:27But here's where it gets even more complicated.
03:30Saudi Arabia and the UAE
03:32do have land pipelines that bypass Hormuz.
03:36But those pipelines can't handle everything.
03:40If Hormuz is fully blocked,
03:42the world could still face a supply gap
03:45of 8 to 10 million barrels per day.
03:49That's massive.
03:50And suddenly,
03:51that extra 206,000 barrels from OPEC Plus
03:55looks like a drop in the ocean.
03:59For now,
04:00Iran says it has no intention of blocking the strait.
04:04But we don't know how things will develop in the coming days.
04:08Also,
04:09it's not just about oil.
04:11China came out strongly
04:13condemning the killing of Iran's supreme leader,
04:16calling it a violation of sovereignty
04:19and international norms.
04:21Russian President Vladimir Putin
04:23called it
04:24a cynical breach of moral and legal standards.
04:28Even Pope Leo XV
04:30appealed publicly
04:31to stop what he described as
04:33a spiral of violence
04:36before it becomes irreversible.
04:39North Korea condemned the strikes
04:41as illegal aggression.
04:43So what you're watching right now
04:45is not just a regional firefight.
04:48It's a pressure test
04:49of the global order.
04:51On one side,
04:52the United States and Israel.
04:55On the other,
04:56Iran,
04:57backed diplomatically by China and Russia.
05:00And in between,
05:01are energy markets,
05:03shipping lanes,
05:05insurance firms,
05:06and central banks.
05:07And ordinary people.
05:09Can the world prevent an energy shock
05:11that turns a regional war
05:13into a global economic crisis?
05:16That depends on what happens next.
05:20Power doesn't end quietly.
05:24Some deaths are not accidents.
05:27They are messages.
05:29A gunshot.
05:30A crowd.
05:32A country frozen.
05:34The killer disappears.
05:36The questions don't.
05:39This is not just about who died.
05:41It's about what followed.
05:44Governments fell.
05:45Armies moved.
05:47History rewrote itself.
05:50Five leaders.
05:52Five moments.
05:54One pattern.
05:56The assassination.
06:11One pattern.
06:12One pattern.
06:14One pattern.
06:16One pattern.
06:18One pattern.
06:20One pattern.
06:20One pattern.
