00:11In 1983, every team has the option for a single commander, one of the most powerful and responsibility-heavy roles
00:18in the battlefield.
00:19As commander, you're technically an infantry class, but your main job isn't to fight, it's to lead.
00:25You'll spend most of your time in the overhead command view, controlling the battle like a real-time strategy game.
00:31Managing squads, deploying abilities, and reading the flow of combat from above.
00:36Here's how it works.
00:38Firstly, as a commander, you should set your command post.
00:41This is a vulnerable position, so somewhere with good cover, away from enemy eyes, is recommended.
00:47At the command post, you can call up your command screen, which gives you a live, top-down view of
00:52the entire map.
00:53From here, you can see squad positions, objectives, enemy markers, and key updates in real-time.
01:00Think of it as your war room. Everything important flows through this interface.
01:05You can select and give orders to squads in a few different ways.
01:08Click their names or icons on screen, use hotkeys 1 through 9 to quickly cycle,
01:13or click and drag a box around multiple players on the map, just like a traditional RTS.
01:18To give an order, just select one or more squads and right-click the map.
01:23Right-clicking an objective issues an attack or defend order.
01:26Right-clicking open ground sends a move command.
01:29Use shift to modify selections on the fly.
01:32To help you coordinate with your team, you have a dedicated Commander VoIP channel, available only to you and the
01:38squad leaders.
01:39Use this to issue orders and plan strategy without the distraction of general team chatter.
01:45In addition to ordering your squads, you have a variety of support options.
01:49These include artillery and rocket barages to clear areas or suppress enemies,
01:54smoke shells to block enemy lines of sight,
01:57reconnaissance aircraft that reveal enemy positions from high altitude,
02:00reinforcement wave tool to call in an instant respawn for your whole team.
02:05Here are some of these abilities in action.
02:08Artillery and rockets.
02:09On the command screen, simply click on a target position, selected by yourself or your squad leaders.
02:15Then call in the relevant available strike.
02:17You'll have to wait for confirmation of this strike, so stay at your post until you hear them.
02:22Creeping barrage.
02:24An artillery strike that progresses along a path you define.
02:26By clicking and dragging across the map, you plot the exact line the salvos will follow,
02:31allowing the barrage to advance in stages.
02:35Smoke screens.
02:36Fired as a line of white phosphorus that you click and drag to set the orientation of the smoke,
02:41ensuring it blocks the sight lines you intend.
02:44White phosphorus smoke burns any unarmored targets caught in the blast,
02:48and produces choking fumes that damage players who attempt to move through it.
02:52Aerial Recon.
02:53You can call in a reconnaissance aircraft,
02:55which will provide you and your team with a heat map on their overhead maps.
02:59This shows approximate enemy positions and troop density for a few minutes,
03:03as long as you stay at your post.
03:05Abilities can cost resources like fuel or munitions and have cooldowns,
03:09so timing and prioritization are key.
03:12Some can even be adjusted mid-use.
03:15For example, you can shift an artillery zone between salvos.
03:18Ultimately, playing the commander is about situational awareness,
03:22team coordination and tactical decision-making.
03:25You influence the shape of the battlefield,
03:28direct the momentum of each push and guide your team towards victory or defeat.
03:33If you're the kind of player who enjoys directing the bigger picture,
03:37making clutch calls and supporting your team with smart decisions rather than raw firepower,
03:41then the commander role is for you.
03:44And as the role evolves beyond early access,
03:46we intend to expand its capabilities to offer even greater tactical depth.
03:51We're excited to keep building on these foundations,
03:53and we'll be back soon with more updates from the Fruits.
