00:06I understand that you think I'm the right person for this mission.
00:12Yeah, it's such a unique acting opportunity because this character doesn't know who they are.
00:18And it's interesting because it works on a couple of levels because as he's finding out,
00:24as he's becoming who he is in the moment, he's remembering who he was before.
00:30And they're not necessarily aligning.
00:33And it's almost as though he's been reborn in space with this opportunity to be someone else.
00:40You know, someone back on Earth, he was someone who didn't believe in himself.
00:45And in space, he becomes somebody who realizes that the fate of the universe is in his hands.
00:52And he has to try and find a way to believe in himself.
00:56And even though that's a, you know, it's a cosmic story and it's a huge adventure,
01:02that's a very personal thing that I think a lot of people can relate to is just to find that
01:06belief in yourself.
01:08I was very interested in the science because it's fascinating.
01:12And it is, you know, the character is such a curious character.
01:16And I tried to approach the whole thing.
01:19I tried to learn from his curiosity.
01:22But I can't say that I understood most of it.
01:24And I don't remember, like, any of it.
01:27And I love being around smart people, you know, and especially space people.
01:35And I find it endlessly fascinating.
01:37And I always think I'm going to understand it after I make a movie about it.
01:42And I never do.
01:43And then I just make another one and try again.
01:46What's so great about what Andy Weir does with his writing is he gives you this opportunity to look at
01:52the future as something not to be feared, but just to be figured out.
01:55Well, I think that this, you know, we have been saturated with these dystopian future narratives for a long time
02:04now.
02:05And I'd like to see more of, and I'm grateful to have gotten to make one that believes that humanity
02:15is capable of so much and that reminds us that we've made the impossible possible before and that we can
02:26do it again.
02:27It's kind of our thing.
