Top dog movie stars honored at Fido Awards

Forget the Oscars — the movie awards for canine stars of the silver screen were held in London on March 1, 2026. The Fido Awards, now in their twentieth year, celebrate the best performances by dogs in films across a range of categories. Among those attending to collect their prizes were Rosie, the springer spaniel who starred in 'I Swear'; Toad, the Jack Russell featured in 'Hamnet' and Rosie, the Rottweiler who appears in 'Pillion.' The 'Comedy Canine' award was won by Merv, the wire-haired terrier who stars in the 2025 film of the same name. The final award, 'Best in World' went to Dixie, an American bulldog, for her performance in 'Dragonfly' alongside actor Brenda Blethyn. The Fido Awards were founded by film journalist Toby Rose, who believed that since actors have so many awards ceremonies, the dogs of the movie world deserved recognition of their own.

00:13I would like, finally, to ask to come forward, the lovely.

00:47It's really five months, so it's a bit young.
00:50If I can't find a coffee shop, do I have a coffee shop?
01:10I think I really like the fact that they celebrate dogs, because I think that dogs give us an awful
01:16lot.
01:17I think they work on trust, and often we put them in quite bewildering situations, and they really trust us,
01:27and they go along with it.
01:29And, I mean, there have been some really, really terrific performances from dogs as well, that sometimes you wouldn't be
01:35able to get a human to do.
01:36Here we are.
01:40Can we have a very quick interview?
01:42Oh, absolutely.
01:45She has to wait for the human actors to catch up.
01:49You just have to show her what she needs to do.
01:51Once she understands the action, she just takes it naturally.
01:55She just lies down into it.
01:57She does exactly, she's highly intelligent.
01:59She is, she's a true method actor.
02:01She is.
02:02It's a view.
02:03It's big.
02:06It's amazing.
02:08Look at all.
02:08Look at all.
02:10For the 20th time, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, dogs and bitches, four incredible dogs on screen for our

02:27I've got to say a few words on Toad's for Mark, please.
02:30Toad would like to accept it.

03:05the judging panel.

03:13Do you want to come and play some work?
03:17She thoroughly enjoyed herself.
03:25Well, for us, massive highlights were the fact that this year, we had many dogs from the films that won.
