00:00Is your computer running slower than a snail in molasses?
00:03You open up Task Manager, and there it is, staring you in the face.
00:09Disk usage at 100%.
00:11Even your internet feels sluggish.
00:13You're not alone.
00:14And trust me, it's incredibly frustrating.
00:17But what if I told you that you could fix this right now, for free?
00:20This isn't just about a slow computer.
00:22High disk usage can bottleneck your entire system,
00:25making even simple web browsing feel like a chore.
00:28In this video, I'm going to walk you through five simple,
00:31step-by-step solutions that are proven to work in 2026.
00:35To finally get that disk usage down and make your PC feel brand new again.
00:41So grab a coffee, and let's get this sorted.
00:43First things first, we need to diagnose the problem.
00:47Press CTRL plus Shift plus CSC on your keyboard to open up the Task Manager.
00:53Click on the Performance tab, and you'll see a graph for your disk.
00:56If it's constantly hitting 100% or staying very close to it, we've confirmed the issue.
01:01Now, go back to the Processes tab.
01:03Click on the Disk column header to sort all the running processes by how much disk activity they're reusing.
01:09The culprits will rise right to the top.
01:11You might see things like system, your antivirus software, or even your web browser, using a surprising amount of disk
01:19resources.
01:20Identifying what's eating up your disk is the crucial first step.
01:23Now that we know what we're looking for, let's dive into the first fix.
01:27Our first target is a Windows service called SeizeMain, which you might know by its older name.
01:32It's job is to preload frequently used apps into your memory to make them open faster.
01:38But sometimes, it goes a little overboard and causes constant disk activity.
01:43Let's turn it off.
01:44Press the Windows key and are at the same time to open the Run dialog.
01:48Type in services, messy, and hit Enter.
01:53This opens the Services window.
01:56Scroll down until you find a service named SeizeMain.
01:58Right-click on it and select Properties.
02:02In the Properties window, find the Startup Type drop-down menu and change it from Automatic to Disabled.
02:10Then, right below it, click the Stop button to shut it down immediately.
02:14Click Apply.
02:16And then OK.
02:17For many people, this single step can solve the 100% disk usage problem right away.
02:22Let's move on to the next solution.
02:25Next up, we're going to check your hard drive for errors.
02:28Over time, file system errors can accumulate and cause your drive to work over time.
02:34Windows has a built-in tool to fix this.
02:36Click on your Start menu and type CMD.
02:38You'll see Command Prompt.
02:40Don't just click it.
02:41Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator.
02:44This is very important.
02:46A black window will pop up.
02:48In Teese window, type the Command CHK DSK per F per R and press Enter.
02:54Let me break that down for you.
02:57CHK DSK is the check disk command.
02:59F tells it to fix any errors it finds.
03:02NDR tells it to locate bad sectors and recover readable information.
03:06Since your main drive is in use, Windows will likely tell you it can't run the check right now
03:10and ask if you want to schedule it for the next time you restart your computer.
03:13Type Y4 YES and press Enter.
03:15Now, just restart your PC and let the disk check run.
03:20It might take a while.
03:23Sobibatian.
03:24Our third fix involves tweaking something called Virtual Memory or the paging file.
03:29This is a space on your hard drive that Windows uses as extra RAM when your physical RAM gets full.
03:34If it's not configured correctly, it can lead to excessive disk usage.
03:39Here's how to fix it.
03:40Go to your Start menu and type View Advanced System Settings and click on it.
03:44In the System Properties window that opens, under the Advanced tab, you'll see a section for Performance.
03:50Click the Settings button there.
03:52Now, in the Performance Options window, click the Advanced tab again.
03:57Down in the Virtual Memory section, click the Change button.
04:00First, uncheck the box at the top that says Automatically Manage Paging File Size for All Drives.
04:07Now, select your said drive.
04:09Click on Custom Size and we'll set the values manually.
04:12A good rule of thumb is to set the initial size to 1.5 times your total RAM
04:17and the maximum size to 3 times your total RAM.
04:20This next fix is a bit more advanced, but it is a known solution for a specific driver bug
04:26that causes 100% disk usage on some systems with solid-state drives.
04:32We're going to fix a driver file called Storage CICs.
04:35Right-click.
04:37You'll start button and select Device Manager.
04:40In the Device Manager, expand the IDATA.
04:45A tap API Controllers category.
04:47You should see an entry for a standard SATA.
04:50A HCI controller.
04:53Right-click on it and choose Properties.
04:56Go to the Details, Tab.
04:58In the Property drop-down menu, select Device Instance Path.
05:03You'll see a value in the box below right.
05:06Click it and select Copy.
05:09Now, we need to go into the Registry Editor.
05:12Press Windows Key and NAR.
05:14Type Regidit and hit Enter.
05:17Be very careful in here.
05:19Navigate to this path.
05:21H-K-E-Y underscore local underscore machine system.
05:27Current Control Set.
05:28Now, paste the device path you copied earlier and navigate down that tree until you find a folder named Device
05:35Parameters.
05:36Interrupt Management.
05:37Message Signal.
05:38Click on that last folder.
05:40On the right-hand side, you should see a value named MSI Supported.
05:44Double-click it and change its value data from 1 to 0.
05:48Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
05:50Restart your computer.
05:52And this pesky bug should be squashed.
05:54Finally, we can't ignore the possibility of malware.
05:58Malicious software running in the background can thrash your hard drive, causing it to hit 100% usage while it
06:04does who knows SWAT with your data.
06:08Running a full system scan is essential.
06:10You can use the built-in Windows Security for this.
06:13Go to your Start menu.
06:14Type Windows Security and open it.
06:17Click on Virus and Threat Protection.
06:19Then Scan Options.
06:20Select Full Scan.
06:22And then click Scan Now.
06:23This will take a significant amount of time as it checks every single file on your system.
06:28If you have a trusted third-party antivirus program like Malwarebytes or Biddefender, running a full scan with that is
06:35also a great idea.
06:37Don't skip this step.
06:39A clean bill of health from your security software gives you peace of mind and rules out one of the
06:44most common causes of system slowdowns.
06:47So there you have it.
06:48Five powerful fixes for that dreaded 100% disk usage error.
06:52We've disabled the Ovid Eager C's main service, checked your hard drive for errors, reset your virtual memory for optimal
06:58performance, fixed a problematic AHCI driver bug, and scanned for any hidden malware by tackling high disk usage.
07:06You're not just fixing one error message.
07:08You're freeing up system resources that can make everything faster, including your internet connection, which often feels slow when your
07:15PC's disk is maxed out.
07:16Go through these steps, and I'm confident you'll see a huge improvement.
