00:00:47Looking around, these people have nothing on me.

00:00:49I was one of the youngest communications directors in history on Capitol Hill.

00:00:53And one of my favorite pastimes is kissing butt.

00:00:56I will do whatever it takes to put a smile on someone's face, because that gets you far.

00:01:08The reporting world is all about connections.

00:01:10It's basically a huge social game when you're a reporter.

00:01:13It's about who you know and what they're going to be able to tell you before they tell their competition.

00:01:17Very similar to Survivor.

00:01:18So this is destiny for me.

00:01:20This is going to be the easiest million I will ever make.

00:01:28I used to work for the Sydney Hot Shots.

00:01:30It's basically Chippendales of Australia.

00:01:33What is that world like?

00:01:35Oh, it's terrible.

00:01:35You know, you've got a thousand women screaming your name every single night when you're on stage.

00:01:43I can charm a woman.

00:01:46And it could help me out in Survivor.

00:01:55When you compare me to other 25-year-olds, I've accomplished a lot.

00:01:59When I was 14 years old, I helped my parents file their taxes.

00:02:02I was the first one in my entire family to attend and graduate college.

00:02:05And now I am the first person of Albanian descent to ever play Survivor in 49 seasons.

00:02:11I'm the first one.

00:06:15We still talk about it to this day.

00:06:16But now if that's when we're into season 49,

00:06:22my dad's got diagnosed with a condition called glaucoma.

00:06:26And he's going to be completely blind by the end of this year.

00:06:29So this is the last season of Survivor he's going to be able to see.

00:06:32And I just want to make my dad proud one more time visually.

00:06:59I'm going to dedicate myself to getting on Survivor.

00:07:03100%.

00:07:04So my journey began with the Pearl Islands,

00:07:07when I first saw all of the different contestants

00:07:10from all different walks of life,

00:07:11and they were so vulnerable.

00:07:14And I think as you get older,

00:07:16you kind of run out of first-time experiences.

00:07:18And Survivor is just jam-packed of first-time experiences.

00:07:23They're going to help you get outside your comfort zone

00:07:25and give you a chance to be vulnerable.

00:07:27Yes.

00:07:33Well, if there's one thing that's very clear over 24 years and 48 seasons,

00:07:39it's this.

00:07:40Survivor is always evolving.

00:07:43And it's not because of the twists or advantages.

00:07:45Survivor evolves because of you, the player.

00:07:49Everybody who has played this game before you has impacted the game in some way,

00:07:54and in doing so, they've elevated the game.

00:07:57Their pursuit of greatness laid the foundation that you're standing on right now.

00:08:02And each of you have your own reasons for being here,

00:08:06your own drive, your own dreams, your own story to write.

00:08:09What complicates Survivor is the minute the game starts,

00:08:12all of your individual ideas collide

00:08:14because Survivor is a zero-sum game.

00:08:18Only one of you will win.

00:08:20But it is your 18 individual pursuits of that victory,

00:08:26the decisions you each make, the risks you each take,

00:08:29that will define your season.

00:08:33And underneath all of this is the heart of the paradox of Survivor.

00:08:37You must and will rely on each other in order to survive in a real jungle,

00:08:42and you must and will vote each other out in order to win.

00:08:47That is the beautiful contradiction that makes Survivor so compelling

00:08:51because without that constant push and pull,

00:08:55without alliances being formed and then broken,

00:08:57without trust being built and then shattered,

00:08:59there is no pursuit of greatness.

00:09:36Here's how it's going to work.

00:09:37On my go, one pair is going to race into the jungle

00:09:40to retrieve and bring back two heavy crates.

00:09:46Then the next pair is going to swim out to a boat with more crates

00:09:50and swim that boat back.

00:09:53Then when you have all your crates,

00:09:56the remaining pair will use those crates to build a cube puzzle.

00:10:01Then one person will climb on top of that puzzle,

00:10:05retrieve a mallet,

00:10:07leap off the cube,

00:10:08and use that mallet to ring a bell.

00:10:12First tribe to ring their bell

00:10:14earns their tribe's supplies.

00:10:17Pot, machete, flint.

00:20:16So basically, I went like two decades of my entire life without even realizing that I

00:20:26I was dating someone at the time, and she was like, you never listen to me.

00:20:29And I was like, I'm trying.

00:20:30And so I was like, I'll get a hearing test to humor it.

00:20:33And it came back.

00:20:34They were like, you should probably get hearing aids.

00:20:35And I just remember putting them on for the first time.

00:20:37And my first thought was like, wow, the world sounds so vibrant and rich.

00:20:41And my second thought was like, how many farts did I think I got of you?

00:20:44But like, I literally did not.

00:20:47Steven is a social nerd, just like myself.

00:20:49We thrive on relationships, and I appreciate that.

00:20:53Just because I bring absolutely zero skills to surviving out here.

00:21:02I am a very adventurous person.

00:21:04However, I'm definitely a city girl.

00:21:07Never been camping, and I don't like all the things that comes with being outdoors.
