Following the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, tensions are rising in parts of South Asia. Deadly protests have erupted in Karachi in Pakistan. In India, security has been stepped up as tens of thousands of Shia Muslims take to the streets in mourning.

00:02I'm in New Delhi and behind me are pro-Iran protests.
00:07Hundreds have gathered in the capital shouting death to America, death to Donald Trump.
00:12And just earlier there was also the burning of an effigy of Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:17The people here are furious at the killing of their spiritual and religious leader.
00:23It's not just Delhi.
00:24It's tens of thousands of people in Indian controlled Kashmir.
00:28It's thousands across the border as well in Pakistan.
00:32Earlier we saw 500 people descend upon the US consulate in Karachi.
00:38They breached the perimeter there and set the building on fire.
00:42They smashed the windows there.
00:44The paramilitary and police forces there had a violent response.
00:48At least nine people are dead and more than 30 people are injured.
00:53Now, as you can see, the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei feels very personal to people here.
00:59We have been speaking to them and they say that this feels like it's the death of one of their

01:07Our community's leader.
01:08It feels as if my son's funeral is taking place.
01:12America and Israel should be destroyed.
01:15I can't see these protests dying down in the next hours or even days.
01:21Now, authorities have urged calm here.
01:23But as you can see, people are emotionally charged and just absolutely furious and in mourning.
