00:30I'm not...
00:40I was asked to assume the very sad honour of accepting this award on O'Hara's behalf.
00:49I know she would have been honoured to receive this award from her fellow performers,
00:55who I know she respected so much. She was such big fans of all of yours.
01:01I, obviously, you know, have been reflecting on the time I was fortunate enough to spend with her and working
01:06with her.
01:07Um, and something that I've just been marvelling at over the last few weeks was, was really her ability to
01:13be generous and kind and gracious
01:17while never, ever minimizing her own talents, um, and her own ability to contribute to the work that we were
01:25doing.
01:26She knew she could destroy and she wanted to destroy every day on set.
01:33And I, I haven't, I mean, I haven't said this to the other actors because I didn't want them to
01:38get ideas,
01:39but pretty much every evening before she had a shooting day on our show,
01:43she would email, uh, me and Evan, um, an email that always was pretty similar and it said,
01:49hello, I hope you'll consider the following.
01:52And then there would be a completely rewritten version of the scene.
01:57She was in.
01:59Um, and literally 100% of the time it made not just her character better,
02:05but it made the scene better and the entire show better as a whole.
02:09And she really showed that you can be a genius and be kind.
02:15And one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other in any way, shape
02:20or form.
02:20Um, so I guess I'll just leave you with this.
02:27If you have people in your lives that don't know her work, if there are kids in your lives
02:32or just people who are out of touch or stupid or something, just show them O'Hara dancing to Harry
02:39Belafonte and Beetlejuice.
02:41Show them O'Hara hurting her knee in best in show and doing that amazing thing where she hobbles around
02:47and tell the people as they are laughing that that's Catherine O'Hara.
02:52And we were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generally shared her talents with
02:56us.
