00:00all right so let's start here with the tampa bay rays here uh edwin you said uh griffin jackson
00:05garrett clevenger those are the guys fighting for saves potentially in this bullpen and i am
00:10somebody in my leagues that always waits on saves why because every year i find them last year you
00:15know who i found everywhere for free aroldis chapman at the end of drafts how'd that work out
00:19pretty good so why because you take guys who have experience you take the veteran guys and just go
00:25okay i'll find saves and you know there's going to be injuries you know there's going to be bad
00:29performances you know there's going to be trades saves is the gift that keeps on giving right
00:34you're always going to have turnover there you can't find 40 home runs typically like the nick
00:39kurtz on the waiver wire that's an anomaly that does not happen every year but i'm going to find 30
00:44saves somewhere i can tell you that right now now you said he's dealing with a shoulder impingement
00:47you got a cortisone shot at this week so apparently he's okay but i think there is a little bit
00:53of a
00:53concern jacks is the guy that i am in on big strikeout rate that's where i'm going to go
00:59so even if you said it ends up eventually with uh you know getting some saves in this mix a
01:03guy
01:04starting the year injured is not where i want to begin things i don't like the phrase cranky shoulder
01:09that was also in quotes too it doesn't sound great he got the cortisone shot we'll see how he goes
01:14he's
01:14hoping to be ready in april we'll see if that unfolds but you seem to be team griffin jacks as
01:19well here in this pool in tampa yeah griffin jacks is just a good ball player i remember him from
01:24his
01:24time with minnesota and then got out of there as far as a trade and sometimes it takes a new
01:28opportunity in a pitcher friendly park remember a lot of people are trying to look at last year's
01:33raised numbers and trying to put them into this year they're going to play back in their old home
01:36park it's a much different play but overall you made a good point and we're going to move on to
01:41the
01:41athletics here where to spend for closer because your first grabs are going to be miller munoz like
01:47that that's kind of where you're going to be taking your first you're going to see that name pop up
01:51for adp and you're going to look at who's around those guys you know who's around mason miller who's
01:55around andres munoz and and ask what am i going to do but i think joe's right because you look
02:00at a
02:01team like the a's and it's going to be between hogan harris and that's whom's job i think it will
02:05be
02:05justin sterner mark leiter jr i think overall the a's are going to be a little bit better go a
02:10little
02:10bit deeper into games and have more chances to win so i think it's it's hogan harris's job to lose
02:14and he's a lefty but y'all want to hear from you i think it's the lefty thing that makes
02:18it tricky
02:19because a lot of managers don't like to have the lefty saving games if somehow like you know
02:23you can't be a left-handed closer like that never existed in the history of baseball but i i'm with
02:29you i think hogan harris is probably the guy there um strikeout rate is not nearly what griffin jacks
02:34is um also you have to look as era last year 320 but the expected era and the xfip are
02:40all in the
02:41high threes and even low fours so this is not the best case scenario i would let this scenario kind
02:47of
02:47come to you if you want to take a flyer at the end hogan harris cool or maybe take a
02:52flyer on the
02:52other two guys if you have deeper benches and deeper leagues and just kind of wait and see so
02:56it'll save you a little free agent budget in case harris kind of falters a little bit but i do
02:59think
02:59the athletics will have some competitive games for sure it's a pretty good lineup they're going to
03:03score runs just a matter of fact they can get a lead and keep it with the starting pitching i
03:08think
03:08is the big question there but harris i agree probably the lead guy at least for now but this is
03:14not a
03:14situation i'm i'm getting into very excitedly let's put it that way with some of the deeper
03:19stats on hogan harris all right another team that if they overperform we may find an opportunity to
03:26get some saves is the los angeles angels you know i think they've improved i i think mike trout is
03:32still
03:32going to be fun to watch i'm not necessarily thinking you know it's kind of funny you know the
03:36mike trout christian mccaffrey kind of conversations that we have each year is a bit more separation but it's
03:41just kind of like where are they now as far as adp goes but you look at the angels you
03:45look at
03:45their bullpen some familiar names you have robert stevenson talking lefties you have drew pomerantz
03:49and then there's kirby yates and i think it's kirby yates's job i i recognize kirby yates in my mind
03:54as a closer but take what you want from spring training they had him throwing in like the fifth
03:58or sixth yesterday so joe your thoughts well you're throwing him in the fifth or sixth yesterday
04:03because you're trying to get him to face more major talent like that's what you're trying it's like
04:06again spring training you keep repeating over and over to yourself the mantra of
04:11it doesn't matter the stats don't matter just is everybody healthy that's pretty much what we're
04:16looking at especially with veterans right now again we talked about some guys that matters like
04:20jackson merrill we're going to talk about in the next segment coming up later on here in the show
04:23it matters how he performs a little bit for me in spring at least i want to see him look
04:28sharp i want
04:28to see him look healthy uh but i tend to agree with you which grates me here a little bit
04:33too
04:33that kirby yates is probably the guy because managers always line of favor the guys who are
04:38the veterans the guys who have been there and done that before i think pomeranz is interesting
04:43though too because he had a successful year out of the bullpen last year he does have a strikeout rate
04:47over 10ks per nine pomeranz is a guy that's been in the league a long time was a starting pitcher
04:52bounced around a little bit he's kind of settled in uh he's a bigger kid too or a kid he's
04:56a man now
04:57he's older but pomeranz to me is the one to watch too especially in leagues where you have holds
05:01or i think it could be a valuable reliever and if kirby yates can't get the job done
05:05for whatever reason pomeranz i think will be the next guy up there to be honest
