00:00Lil Karno, welcome to The Brit!
00:01Thank you for having me.
00:02What's it like to be here?
00:05Overwhelming a little bit, you know, but it's cool, it's chill, it's like nice to see so many people I'm
00:10a fan of.
00:11Who here have you been enjoying their music?
00:16Turnstyle, Geese, yeah, like quite a lot of people.
00:19Have you had a chance to talk to them yet?
00:20Nah, I'm too shy man, you know, I'm not full of that. I don't know what I'd say, I just
00:24feel like, alright.
00:25I think you should pitch a collaboration, I can imagine that.
00:28I just sometimes just feel like it's nicer to just enjoy their music, you know, than, yeah, stress it out.
00:34So what was it like to get such a massive response to Hopefully?
00:39Yeah, it felt really special actually because Hopefully to me is probably the closest, I think in music you're always,
00:45or any art form, you're trying to get closer and closer to who you really are.
00:49And it felt like this was the closest representation I've made so far of who I actually am.
00:52So for some people to like it and enjoy it and feel seen, yeah, made me feel like, yeah, like,
00:58I'm enough.
00:59Do you know what I mean?
01:00And it felt like we saw you leaning into like singing and like really clean vocals.
01:06Oh yeah.
01:06Which is a big, like, ask and it must have been quite daunting and it was a vulnerable album anyway.
01:11What was it like to sort of put that out there?
01:14Defo wasn't the intention.
01:16I was making a lot of music with other people in mind.
01:18I was listening to a lot of stuff, you know, like a lot of Elliot Smith, Adrian Lenker, et cetera,
01:23et cetera.
01:23So I was writing a lot of stuff, hoping that other people would sing it, you know, so I was
01:28kind of putting down rough vocals in the hope that someone else would come and kind of save my back.
01:32And then after a long time of going back and forth from people not being able to or not doing
01:36what we wanted, I was like, we'll just scrap a lot of the songs.
01:38And it was friends of mine who actually like, why don't we just keep it with you on there?
01:41So, yeah, one friend in particular, a guy called Avi, without him, none of it would be out because I'm
01:46not sure still.
01:48And from one high to another, you headline the other stage at Glastonbury.
01:53Yeah.
01:54That was an incredible moment.
01:56I was in the crowd for that.
01:57What was it like to see that sea of people there?
01:59Unbelievable.
01:59You know, I've been going to Glastonbury for a long time to play.
02:01I think it might have been my fifth time, but this time my kids were there.
02:05My partner was there, my mum, my brother.
02:07It was like the first time that it felt like we could really relax because usually I'm just, you know,
02:11half asleep in a tent, not able to sleep.
02:14So, yeah, it was very special.
02:16You felt like you could relax?
02:18Yeah, the stage is like a pair of slippers, you know, up there now.
02:21It's been a long time.
02:22And also like, yeah, I don't know.
02:24I was more nervous on the way up than I was when I came onto the stage.
02:26But my kids are there.
02:27It can't feel stress with your kids around, you know?
02:29So this album seemed like the start of a very hopeful, happy new chapter.
02:34Where does it go from there now?
02:36Who knows?
02:38I'm trying to, in honest, just try and enjoy it.
02:40Like the fruits of my labour, I guess, you know, I've turned over heavy stones in the process of making
02:45music.
02:45And now I just love to be in my garden, doing some gardening, making some dinner, you know,
02:50pick the kids up from school, drop them off.
02:53Just got a new bike to put my kids on.
02:54So I'm excited about that.
02:55That's kind of where I'm at right now.
02:56Have you been working on new music?
02:58Yeah, a little bit, a little bit, but just with the pressure off, you know,
03:00like, I feel like I've been, yeah, I put a lot of pressure on myself for a long time,
03:04and I feel like I'm slowly starting to just chill the fuck out a little bit, you know, so.
03:08Thank you so much.
03:09It's a pleasure, really a pleasure.
03:10Thank you so much.
