00:11:06He told me that he needs to take the crowd out of this match early on.

00:11:11He learned way back in Belfast what a crowd can do to you.

00:11:15The momentum and the emotion that you can feed off when it comes to the hometown crowd.

00:11:20He says he needs to take that crowd out of this match early on tonight.

00:11:27Already right off the bat, trying to charge up CM Punk is this audience.

00:11:32But let me just make it abundantly clear to insulated Americans, a lot of the international superstars, they're used to

00:11:40these environments.

00:11:41We spend most of our career competing on foreign soil, and in Finn's case, most of his career either in

00:11:47Japan or here in the US.

00:11:49He says this will not faze Finn Balor in the slightest.

00:11:52You know, CM Punk's been pissed off as of late, Wade.

00:11:55All the questions coming his way over the past few weeks of why would you take this match?

00:11:59Why would you endanger one of the greatest main events in WrestleMania history against Roman Reigns?

00:12:05What does Punk do? He doesn't back down from a fight.

00:12:07Instead, he always doubles down. He says he wants to be a fighting champion.

00:12:12Yeah, I'm split on that. I respect the fact that he sees it as his responsibility as the World Heavyweight

00:12:18to prove against anyone any time that he is the champ.

00:12:22However, we know full well how much Punk wants a win, and I'll emphasize win, in the main event of

00:12:29Lose tonight, you're not even getting a chance at that, pal.

00:12:32Yeah, Fulton Nelson applied by Balor, and now Punk into a pinning combination and a kickout at two.

00:12:38Into a side headlock now.

00:12:39You know, Finn Balor actually credits CM Punk and some of the talks that they had

00:12:44leading up to that match in Belfast for, quote, awakening, reawakening, a killer instinct

00:12:51that was dominant for too long in Balor.

00:12:57Yeah, and we were speaking a little earlier today, Cole, and you were asking me about what

00:13:01Finn Balor might have learned in that first match, and I think the entire demeanor of Balor

00:13:07when he entered here today, you can read it on his body.

00:13:12Because he proved in Belfast that he can hang at the very top level with a World Heavyweight Champion

00:13:20in this day and age.

00:13:21It's been a long time since he's proven that to himself.

00:13:23He is a completely different man, if there were any doubts in the head of Balor going

00:13:28into that match in Belfast, they've all disappeared today.

00:13:32And again, Wade, listen to how quiet it is right now inside the United Center.

00:13:36Balor doing what he promised to do, not allow this crowd into this match.

00:13:41And that fires up Balor more, and what does it do to the mindset of CM Punk?

00:14:38He's fighting against father time, and that is something as somebody like Finn Balor,

00:14:43who is renowned for his endurance, needs to use to his advantage.

00:14:46So if I was Balor, I personally want to pick up the pace here.

00:14:54Again, the winner will defend against the Royal Rumble winner, Roman Reigns, seven weeks at WrestleMania.

00:15:03This is exactly what I was talking about from Balor.

00:15:06He's not as big as CM Punk, but he's ready to throw fists in the early goings here.

00:15:10There was a technical start to the match, but that's got thrown out of the window now.

00:15:14Of course, Wade, the United Center, the home of the beloved NHL Blackhawks, Punk's favorite team.

00:15:20And does Punk want to turn this into a hockey fight tonight against Balor?

00:15:25I mean, you'll win by Punk or by Crook, but if it is a hockey fight, I think that probably

00:15:32favors CM Punk.

00:15:34He does have probably 25 pounds on Finn Balor.

00:15:37And now Punk after delivering the elbow to the face of Balor.

00:15:46One, two, three, four, five, six.

00:15:53And look at Balor now.

00:15:54Nice switch by Finn.

00:15:55Drops Punk to the mat.

00:15:57He tweaked something in his ribcage there.

00:15:59It was a nasty landing.

00:16:01And if he did, zero, zeroing in on it is Finn Balor.

00:16:07A sixth sense for an injury on an opponent's body.

00:16:10And at this level, with the World Championship hanging in the balance,

00:16:15that is a massive asset for the Irishman.

00:16:17Can you imagine if Balor wins tonight?

00:16:19He turns Mania upside down in a, listen, it's WrestleMania season.

00:16:24Anything can happen as Balor now delivers a stomp to Punk.

00:16:28Weaken up the midsection for the coup de grace.

00:16:32Well, Finn Balor is sick of being labeled an underachiever.

00:16:36He does feel at times like management, in a way, lost faith in him when he had that injury

00:16:41ten years ago as a brief world champion.

00:16:44And this is one way to stick it up to management, ripping away their dream matchup

00:16:49at WrestleMania between Punk and Roman Reigns.

00:16:51Balor's got a five count here.

00:16:53Again, working the ribcage.

00:16:54A big kick to CM Punk, great strategy here by Balor.

00:16:59Not only slow Punk down, but as I mentioned before, soften him up for your finishing blow.

00:17:03Yeah, and here's why you know that initial tweak in the ribcage of Punk was bad.

00:17:07You do all you can to hide any form of weakness from your opponent.

00:17:11Punk was trying his best to.

00:17:12He simply couldn't.

00:17:13The tail was there immediately.

00:17:15And Balor is now all over that weakness like a rash.

00:17:18Yeah, Balor doing a great job physically wearing Punk down.

00:17:23This is the belief that is starting to grow in Finn Balor now.

00:17:27And it's the belief that is starting to dissipate from this partisan crowd here in Chicago.

00:17:32Punk has had a great career in Chicago.

00:17:34He won his Intercontinental Championship here when he beat William Regal back in 2009.

00:17:41Who would ever forget the great street fight with Chris Jericho here in Chicago?

00:17:46And how about 2011, Wade?

00:17:48The night that CM Punk defeated John Cena to win the championship in one of the most iconic moments in

00:17:55WWE history.

00:17:57Yeah, blowing that kiss to John Cena championship in hand as he left the arena.

00:18:02One of the most iconic shots in wrestling history.

00:18:06Oh, God!

00:18:06Abdominal stretch again, working on the midsection of CM Punk.

00:18:09You see Punk screaming in pain here.

00:18:12A tap out by Punk would give the title to Balor.

00:18:14Yeah, Punk has a very high pain tolerance, but barely, barely able to conceal the sheer agony that he's in

00:18:22right now.

00:18:22And Balor attacking with abandon.

00:18:27And I'm not sure Balor has even got out of third gear at this point.

00:18:30That's the scary part.

00:18:36What a predicament here for the World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.

00:18:46The crowd trying to rally against Punk, who's got a bad taste in his mouth after last year's Elimination Chamber.

00:18:53When he was in the Chamber match, and it was down to him and Cena, and a Seth Rollins stomp

00:18:57handed the match to John Cena.

00:19:00Bad taste from Elimination Chamber, perhaps.

00:19:02Oh, and even worse taste from last year's Wrestlemania.

00:19:06We all remember how that went down, getting stabbed in the back by Paul Heyman.

00:19:10That's why he's so desperate to get back to the showcase of the Immortals, and set the record straight this

00:19:17year in the main event.

00:19:18Yeah, but Punk has really turned things around, not counting the night that Rollins cashed in on Punk at SummerSlam.

00:19:24Punk has not lost a one-on-one match since late spring of 2025.

00:19:32And now, Balor taking the fight to Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship.

00:19:38Main event, Wrestlemania Kings in the balance here tonight.

00:19:52And it's just so easy for Balor to knock the stuffing out of Punk here, but Punk resolute.

00:20:06And Punk trying to rally a bit here, an elbow followed by a closed line.

00:20:11Well, now suddenly he's got Finn reeling.

00:20:14Finn Balor has been knocked for a loop by Punk, and Punk now ratcheting up through the gears.

00:20:19The belief is back here.

00:20:21This match is physical as those great 1990s Bulls teams here tonight.

00:20:26And Punk now back to his feet.

00:20:30And he's got Finn in position for a GTS.

00:20:32Finn, though, able to slide behind.

00:20:35And now sending Finn out to the floor.

00:20:38Here comes CM Punk.

00:20:39Punk now with a suicide dive, dropping Balor right into our table.

00:20:44Yeah, Punk going high risk at the right time.

00:20:47And the lower back of Finn Balor absorbing all of that abuse from our desk.

00:20:56It buys him a lot of time, Wade, to try to recover from what's been a banged up midsection.

00:21:03That's one of those injuries that kind of gets worse and worse as the match goes on.

00:21:07Punk, for my money, needs to finish this and finish it quick.

00:21:10That's why he sends Balor back into the ring.

00:21:13He doesn't want to take a count-out win.

00:21:14He wants to pin Balor in his hometown here tonight.

00:21:20Punk off the top rope with a flying clothesline.

00:21:24Cover now by Punk to retain, and a kick out.

00:21:27If you're Roman Reigns, right, and you're watching this match tonight, who do you want to face at WrestleMania, or

00:21:32does it matter?

00:21:33I don't think Roman Reigns fears any man in this industry.

00:21:38He wants all comers, bring him on, we'll make it as big as possible.

00:21:43All he cares about is the gold, and that gold might be coming the way of CM Punk right now.

00:21:48Looking for a GTS, Balor now from behind.

00:21:50Finn Balor, who actually, into the cover, hook of the leg on Punk, and a kick out.

00:21:54Balor actually owns a victory over Roman Reigns in the not-so-distant past.

00:21:59And, of course, we know the history and the rivalry between Punk and Reigns.

00:22:03Well, victories over Roman Reigns are a collector's item in this industry.

00:22:08So if Finn Balor has some history with Reigns, and it's a positive history,

00:22:12even more reason why Finn needs to get the job done here tonight.

00:22:16And Punk dragging himself to his feet.

00:22:18Balor, again, working the midsection.

00:22:20This has been a great strategy by Balor.

00:22:22Well, you take gifts when they arrive.

00:22:24Oh!

00:22:26It's the shot there to CM.

00:22:28But you take gifts when they arrive in this game,

00:22:30and whatever strategy Finn had coming into the match, immediately he had to pivot once

00:22:34Punk tweaked that ribcage the weight off.

00:22:37In a position, Finn Balor trying to hang on.

00:22:39Punk looking to hit the go to sleep here.

00:22:42Went for it, Balor rolls him up, small packages in it, and I'm gonna kick out by Punk.

00:22:48Punk dips underneath, there's that packed and swinging neck breaker by Punk.

00:22:52Cover to retain, kick out at two by Balor.

00:22:59And Punk just keeps finding answers.

00:23:01I mean, go back to SummerSlam last year with that epic matchup with Gunther

00:23:06that looked completely unwinnable for about 98% of it.

00:23:10Punk just hung in there, and hung in there, and hung in there,

00:23:14showed his toughness, showed his resolve, and got the dub in the end.

00:23:18And it's been the story over the last month.

00:23:20Of course, the win over Braun Breaker, the win over Finn Balor,

00:23:23the win over AJ Styles. Punk has been a fighting champion

00:23:26as we head into WrestleMania season.

00:23:29But will his luck run out tonight?

00:23:33Both men in bad shape at this point in the matchup.

00:23:37That's when you realize it is close to the death here, perhaps.

00:23:42Both men must sense victory.

00:23:44They know their opponent is a badly weakened state.

00:24:48And I believe Punk's been busted open to the mouth.

00:24:54Well, that busted open mouth is the least of Punk's worries.

00:25:00but it might be for nothing here if Punk can connect on this.

00:25:16Well, that was exactly what takes the brunt of the landing for CM Punk.
