More teams should study what the Washington Wizards just did. Instead of hoping draft picks eventually develop into stars, they traded for proven All-Star level talent to accelerate their rebuild.

Building through the draft works — but only if your picks hit. And finding a player at the level of Anthony Davis or Trae Young in the draft is incredibly difficult. The Wizards chose certainty over projection. That’s an aggressive but calculated strategy.

This move revitalizes Washington’s direction and gives the franchise immediate relevance. It’s risky — but stagnation is risky too.
