00:00The Wire actor Bobby J. Brown has died at 62 after a tragic barn fire in Maryland.
00:05The actor died on February 25 due to smoke inhalation after becoming trapped inside a
00:10burning barn, his daughter told TMZ.
00:13The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Brown suffered from smoke inhalation
00:18and diffused thermal injury.
00:20The fire was ruled an accident.
00:22Authorities determined it was caused by a vehicle Brown had been jump-starting inside
00:26the barn.
00:26Chilling 911 audio obtained by TMZ reveals the horrifying moments as the fire unfolded.
00:33Dispatchers noted that the caller, Brown's wife Arlene, said her husband was trapped inside
00:37the barn and that the structure was already on fire.
00:40She told authorities the 62-year-old had been trying to start his Cadillac.
00:44At one point, dispatch said she had not made contact with him.
00:47She later hung up as officials attempted to reach her again.
00:50When emergency crews arrived at the family's residence, a firefighter described a 50-foot
00:55barn, mostly engulfed, with the subject trapped inside.
01:00A later update confirmed the building was fully engulfed.
01:02One official added,
01:06Brown had reportedly called for a family member to bring him a fire extinguisher, but the flame
01:11spread too quickly.
01:12His partner suffered severe burns while attempting to save him.
01:15Brown was best known for playing officer Bobby Brown on The Wire, which aired from 2002 to 2008.
01:21He also appeared in the 2008 film From Within and made special appearances on Law & Order's
01:26Special Victims Unit.
01:27His most recent role was in the 2023 movie Mailman.
01:31Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Pennsylvania, Brown was an accomplished amateur boxer before turning
01:36to acting.
01:37He competed in amateur competitions and won five Golden Gloves championships before attending
01:42the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.
01:45His agent, Albert Bramante, told TMZ,
01:47I am upset and saddened.
01:49He was such a good actor and person.
01:51He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting, and it was a joy to work with.
01:55Brown is survived by his son, Bobby Brown II, and his daughter.
01:59His death follows several losses among his former Wire co-stars, including Michael K.
02:03Williams, Lance Reddick, Charlie Scales, and Al Brown in recent years.
