The Shields Ferry will stay out of service until at least the end of March following structural damage to its north landing. Replacement buses are operating while repairs continue.

00:07to its North Shields landing. Nexus says bolts connecting the landing to the walkway were
00:12affected during storm Chandra and inspections show significant structural repairs are required.
00:19The closure began on the 29th of January as a safety precaution. A replacement bus is running
00:25via the Tyne Tunnel though journeys are far longer than the usual 7 minute crossing.
00:30Cyclists are being directed to the Tyne pedestrian tunnel instead.
00:34Nexus says teams and independent engineers are working to restore service
00:38as quickly as possible while plans continue for a landing.
