00:00Buenas tardes.
00:30Get Man City later on in the competition again. Will you watch it or will you be training?
00:35I think we'll be training. Yeah, so I'm sure we'll hear about it on the training ground. But yeah, preparing
00:41for tomorrow's game.
00:42Just a couple on the match. The game the other night against Carabag was the first of a run of
00:46home fixtures now. And after so many games away, it was four in a row and seven out of eight.
00:51How nice is it to have this sequence of matches in front of your own fans again and no travelling
00:57either?
00:57Yeah, it's amazing to be back at home. I think we've got to build our rhythm back at St James's
01:01Park. I think it's really important we won on Tuesday night. That was our focus. It wasn't necessarily the performance
01:07that we were wanting, but it was the result we definitely needed.
01:12And hopefully now we can build some rhythm and get a good feeling back at our home ground. It's so
01:17important for us.
01:18And how important do you see this game in isolation being because Everton are above you as it stands, but
01:24that would change if you were to win?
01:27Yes, it's a big game for us. I think Everton have done really well on their travels this year. They're
01:31a really tough team to beat.
01:35You know, from their perspective, their away form has been really good, especially defensively. They've been very, very strong.
01:40And we know historically, from David's teams, they're very difficult to score against. So a difficult game for us. One
01:48we're going to have to do really well in, in the sense of our attacking play has to be really
01:52good.
01:52Our defensive mentality has to be improved from what it has been in recent games. I think that's going to
01:57be the big focus.
02:00You said, I think previously, that Tino Livramento should be back round about early March. Do you expect him to
02:07be involved in these next couple of games at home?
02:09We're still in February, aren't we?
02:10Yeah, I think Tino will be early March. We think he's still on track for that. He's done really well.
02:20He's been training now, not with us, but separately running for a period of time.
02:27I think he's done a really good body of work behind him. So I think when he comes back, he'll
02:30be in a good place. So I don't think it's too long to wait.
02:35And Jacob Ramsey, of course, missed the game in midweek. Is there any chance of him being back involved for
02:41tomorrow?
02:42We hope that he will train today. So, yeah, fingers crossed for tomorrow as well.
02:48Need to ask you as well, back page of one of the national papers today, linking Anthony Gordon to Arsenal
02:54in the summer.
02:55Of course, on the back of the Tenale stuff we all spoke about in here a couple of weeks ago.
03:00How does that make you feel? Is it unsettling for the player at this stage of the season?
03:07Only if he reads it, I suppose. I mean, there's always in this sort of age that we're at, there's
03:13always rumour and speculation.
03:15And yeah, I don't see probably 90% of it. I'm sure the players probably see more than I do.
03:22But I think it comes with the territory of being a top player and playing at this level that there's
03:26going to be speculation.
03:27I think you've just got to put it out of your brain and you've got to focus on the football
03:30because, as we know with our schedule, there's so many games, there's no time for distractions.
03:35We have to be fully focused on each match.
03:37Thanks, Eddie.
03:38Thank you.
03:38Andy?
03:39Well, Eddie, we talked about like kind of being back at home.
03:43How nice is it to actually have the players back on the training ground for a concerted period of time?
03:48Because that away run of fixtures where you've barely got any training time available, it must be beneficial for them
03:55this week.
03:57Yes, but yeah, we haven't done a huge amount of training, to be honest.
04:02I think the squad is small at the moment.
04:05So we, if you look at our bench on Tuesday, we try to sort of share minutes around.
04:12So with that in mind, the training the last couple of days has been really minimal.
04:17Hopefully we'll have a good day's training today and then we're ready to play our next game.
04:21Training has almost been parked to a degree, although we're trying to take every opportunity we can to get the
04:28players in a really good place to play each game.
04:31But a lot of tactical preparation, a lot of game plan work, that's sort of where we're going from day
04:37to day.
04:38Every day my social media feed seems to be full of Bruno out in Brazil recovering at the moment,
04:44which puts a real positive spin, I have to say, on every single day.
04:48A couple of questions on him.
04:49How is he doing in terms of his recovery?
04:51But also, I've asked you this before, he's got through so many games for Newcastle United.
04:56How good is it for him mentally to be coming back the best version of himself with the way he's
05:01recuperating?
05:02Yeah, I've had some good contact with Bruno.
05:05He seems very positive about his injury, how he feels.
05:11He's done a lot of work, as you say.
05:13I think he's been really well looked after as well.
05:15So credit to everyone that's doing that work with him.
05:19We hope that he can come back and really give us a push towards the back end of the season.
05:23He's such an inspirational figure for us, that could be a huge boost for us.
05:27But we have to treat his injury carefully.
05:29I think it's a serious enough one for us to know that with any muscle problem,
05:32especially the hamstring, you've got to be really careful.
05:34So I think the better he looks after himself now,
05:37the more we're going to be rewarded later in the season.
05:39Just finally, four wins in five now.
05:42How impressed have you been with the mentality of the squad to bounce back?
05:46I know all of the talk was about the chat amongst the leadership group
05:49to the rest of the squad and everything after that difficult period.
05:52But how good has the mentality been in the last couple of weeks to bounce back like this?
05:55Really good. I've seen a good response from everybody.
05:59The squad's come together.
06:01I think we've become closer and tighter.
06:03There's a really good feeling between the players.
06:06Sometimes that comes with a small squad.
06:09And we certainly are sort of small in numbers at the moment.
06:12But the feeling is really high.
06:13And I think the most important thing for us now is to look forward.
06:18I think I've laughed with you guys here about January being a pivotal month,
06:22then February.
06:23And now we're probably looking at March being that month.
06:25So the games get bigger, but we're excited by what's ahead.
06:30Thank you. Nisha?
06:31Morning, Eddie.
06:33How's Louis Miley getting on?
06:34And is it still looking at March for him?
06:39Yeah, we've just been advised with Louis to be really careful with this injury.
06:44It was a dead leg, so a knock, which usually with a knock of that type,
06:50it's maybe a couple of days in your back.
06:51But there was a little bit of muscle disruption.
06:55He's had a couple of injections.
06:56I think he's got one more to come.
06:57So I think we're looking at, I think I've been saying a couple of weeks for a while,
07:00but I think we're looking at a couple of weeks with Louis.
07:04Because I think if we don't get the management of this injury right,
07:07it could rule him out for the season.
07:08So I think we're being careful to hopefully get him back in a good place.
07:12And how's he kind of dealt with that?
07:15Because earlier in the season, you know, moving to right back,
07:18doing a really good job and getting his minutes.
07:21How has he reacted to this setback?
07:23Typical Louis.
07:25Not a massive amount of emotion, but that's a strength.
07:29He goes about his work in a really good way.
07:32I'm sure behind the scenes he's disappointed because he was in such a good place.
07:35He was playing really well at whatever position we asked him to play.
07:38And he was integral to what we were doing.
07:41And he also gave us a lot more choice and options to play different ways.
07:45So he's been a huge miss and we're desperately getting back.
07:47But we have to respect the injury timescale given.
07:51And just finally, I know we talk about the succession of pivotal months,
07:55but with this run of home games, hopefully form coming,
07:59is Champions League still a possibility qualification top five?
08:03Or, you know, is that maybe a bit too far now?
08:08I think anything's possible, I think.
08:09But we need to go on a great run of wins.
08:11And I think that's what we've been looking for all season in the Premier League.
08:15And we haven't been able to put that together.
08:17So I think with the other great distractions we've got going on in our season,
08:25nothing should get in the way of our Premier League focus.
08:27So I think starting tomorrow, we need to be really focused on giving our best efforts
08:32and trying to win as many games as possible.
08:34Thank you.
08:36Damien, George and Charlie, please.
08:38Morning, Eddie.
08:39Morning.
08:39Just going back to Anthony, how do you prevent this speculation developing
08:44into the kind of saga that you had with Alex Izak last season?
08:50I'm not sure there's a lot I can do about that.
08:51I think I've not seen the story, so it's news to me, but we're mid-season.
08:58We're in the middle of some of the biggest games of his career.
09:03And who knows what's going to happen internationally with him in the summer as well.
09:06So he's got no time to look left or right.
09:09It's got to be fully focused on straight ahead and the next game
09:13and trying to be as good as he can be.
09:15I've been really impressed with him the last few weeks.
09:16I think he's been in a good place, playing in a central position.
09:20I think he's done really well and we want him to continue that good form.
09:23Just to flag as well, Anthony was asked a question on that
09:25and did respond to it literally a week ago.
09:27So if you want to refer to those quotes.
09:29George?
09:31Your quotes are out there.
09:32I think they were published.
09:34George?
09:35I'd echo that, Lee.
09:37That's good.
09:39Me?
09:40Yes.
09:41Okay.
09:43Good morning.
09:45Kieran made his 150th appearance for the club the other night.
09:49He's also played 11 of the last 12 games in all competitions.
09:52I know he prides himself on his professionalism and fitness,
09:55but that's quite some workload for a 35-year-old.
09:58Can you pay tribute, please, to his ongoing influence on the pitch,
10:03in the dressing room and what he still brings to the team?
10:07Yeah, you can't underestimate what Kieran brings.
10:11I think we just spoke earlier about the reaction of the group in the last five games
10:16and I think sort of epitomising that is Kieran's mentality where I think after the Brentford game,
10:24if I believe, I could be mistaken on the game, but he's come out and sort of taken accountability
10:29on behalf of the players, which I think is rare in this day and age.
10:33And I think he's got those values inside of him that he has to give more,
10:38the team have to give more in any moment, but that filters through the group
10:43and that leadership is almost a dying art in the modern game.
10:46So I pay tribute to his leadership all through his time here.
10:50He's been a really positive force for the team, for evolving, improving
10:58and in good and bad moments being consistent.
11:01He's had a big workload in recent weeks.
11:03We've been well aware of that.
11:04We've tried to manage his minutes when we can in games,
11:07but also he's very much of the mindset that he wants the rhythm of the games.
11:11So he enjoys the games he wants to play
11:14and he feels he's better when he is regularly playing.
11:16So in some sense, we've tried to give him that as well.
11:20But he's still an outstanding player.
11:22Thank you.
11:22I've got to Charlie, please.
11:24Morning, Eddie.
11:25It's another one on Gordon, but it is match-related.
11:28He's become a little bit of a pantomime villain for Everton fans in this fixture.
11:32Why do you think he's yet to perform against his former club
11:34and how is he mentally going into this one?
11:39Yeah, without going back over old ground,
11:42I think it's a new game.
11:45I think Anthony's been very good in this season,
11:48in particular,
11:49sort of blanking out emotions from previous seasons
11:55and just focusing on the future.
11:57And I think that's what he'll have to do again.
11:58This is obviously a fixture that means a lot to him.
12:01You can't deny that.
12:03It's his former team who did a lot for him in his career.
12:06And I think he's very grateful for that.
12:08But, of course, there's a will for him,
12:10regardless of the opponent,
12:11to do well for Newcastle and for his teammates now.
12:14So, I think he's in a really good place.
12:16The last few weeks, I think he's been outstanding for us.
12:19And my wish for him is that he doesn't think too much
12:22and just carries on trying to play the same way.
12:24Thank you.
12:24Go to Lee, Luke and Joel, please.
12:26Lee?
12:28Yeah, any on players playing in different positions?
12:31Obviously, you've done it with Nick Wallamala,
12:33Joel Linton and Lewis Miley.
12:35Surely that is a positive thing
12:37that a player can play in more than one position.
12:39It's only going to help them further in their career.
12:42From the player's perspective, you mean?
12:44Yeah, I think it's a great thing for everybody,
12:49for us.
12:49Of course, if you've got versatile players,
12:51it gives you a lot more choice and options on how to play.
12:54Especially in the midst of a situation
12:57where we've got a few injuries within the squad,
12:59it's almost imperative that we have that.
13:01From the player's perspective,
13:03I think it's great for their learning
13:04and it's potentially great for their careers.
13:06You've seen with Joel Linton in particular,
13:08a change in position has transformed his career.
13:11And it's been a real positive for him.
13:13That won't always be the case with every player.
13:16And players will always have their preference
13:17on where they play.
13:20But I think we've got some great lads
13:22who are willing to play anywhere.
13:25Yeah, I think it's been beneficial
13:26for all sides at the moment.
13:28And we'll continue just to try and do
13:29what's best for the team
13:30and try and get results.
13:32Thank you.
13:33Luke?
13:35Does it ever feel
13:36that people are deliberately trying
13:39to destabilise your players?
13:40Because I think in the last few months
13:41we've had Liv Remento,
13:42my colleagues might be able to help me with the list,
13:44but Tonali, Chau,
13:46Volta Marder going back to Germany,
13:47Anthony Gordon,
13:49there does seem to be a lot of speculation
13:51around your players.
13:52Why do you think that is?
13:56Is that the end?
13:59I thought myself.
14:01You tell me.
14:03I mean, do you?
14:04Because it's your...
14:06It seems that Newcastle players
14:08seem to be fair game for transfer speculation.
14:10And is that a hangover
14:11from the Isak Saga last summer?
14:13Do people think you're now a selling club?
14:15Why does it seem to be
14:17that your players are linked
14:18so often with moves?
14:19Well, I was hoping that you'd answer it
14:21because it's your sort of industry
14:24that's creating those stories.
14:26And for me, it's...
14:27As I said,
14:28I am slightly secluded from it to a degree.
14:30If you don't read it,
14:31you don't know who's being linked with who.
14:34Isn't it not just part of modern day football
14:36that everyone's linked with moves these days
14:39and not just Newcastle players,
14:40but a lot of other clubs
14:42potentially have the same issues?
14:44I don't know.
14:45I think it's irrelevant, really.
14:46I think it's how the players take to that.
14:48If the players absorb it
14:49and it affects them,
14:51then of course that's a negative.
14:52But I think
14:54they will become robust enough
14:55to ignore it
14:58and concentrate on playing.
14:59And I think these things
15:00only come into focus
15:01really when windows are open.
15:03Or that's, for me,
15:03when the players should be,
15:05if at all,
15:06thinking about their futures.
15:08Because in the meantime,
15:09everything they do in between
15:11affects their future.
15:12And all they can do
15:13is play at their best level
15:14and that's what I'd encourage them to do.
15:15Thank you.
15:16We've got to Joe, Craig and Kieran, please.
15:18Joe.
15:19Hi, Eddie.
15:19A couple of years ago,
15:20Lewis Hall was obviously...
15:21Sorry,
15:22Lewis Miley was thrust into the team
15:23because of injuries.
15:24You've now got a couple of players
15:26on the bench
15:26like Sean Neve
15:27and Leo Shahar.
15:29What do they have to do
15:30where touch wood
15:31there's not a similar injury crisis?
15:32What do they have to do
15:33to force themselves
15:33into the first team
15:35and be regular players for you?
15:38Well, they've got a long journey
15:39ahead of them.
15:40I think,
15:41I've said many times
15:42in this seat,
15:43the hardest transition
15:44is to go from
15:46academy player
15:47into the first team.
15:49It is such a difficult jump
15:50and such a big jump
15:51for all of the young lads to take.
15:53They have to work at their games.
15:55They have to improve
15:56in every moment.
15:57They can't waste a day.
15:59Sometimes that's difficult to do
16:00because there'll be
16:01very small groups training
16:03as there has been this season.
16:04There haven't been 20 players
16:06training regularly
16:07for them to probably
16:08fully
16:10immerse themselves
16:10into that world
16:11of development
16:12through their training.
16:13It's been more individual
16:14based in smaller groups
16:16and that places
16:17even more emphasis
16:18on their learning
16:19coming from themselves
16:20with our support.
16:22So they've
16:25got a big journey
16:26ahead of them.
16:26I think what we've tried
16:27to do is
16:29help them play
16:29as many games
16:30as they can
16:30and so when we have
16:31been able to release
16:32them to play
16:3323's games
16:34even at the cost
16:34of being on our bench
16:35we think that's been
16:36really important
16:36because they need to play
16:39and if they don't play
16:39they won't get better.
16:40So we've tried
16:42to facilitate that
16:43so they're still getting
16:43the game time
16:44that they need.
16:45Thank you.
16:45Craig?
16:47Morning Eddie.
16:47We've spoken a lot
16:48about Nick this week
16:49in terms of the isolation
16:50of now
16:51and where it's best
16:52for him and the team
16:53to play
16:53but looking longer term
16:55if in theory
16:56you did have that
16:56extended run of training
16:57time with him
16:58what would your focus
16:59be?
17:00Would it be to make
17:01him a midfielder
17:02in number 10
17:02and number 9
17:03where do you see him
17:04longer term
17:05sort of moving the
17:06conversation on
17:06from what we've
17:07spoken about this week?
17:13I think
17:13the focus
17:15longer term
17:16would be on
17:17of course
17:17his development
17:18and transitioning
17:19into the Premier League
17:19because I still feel
17:20there's a physical
17:21adaption that's
17:22taking place
17:24so
17:26we would
17:27if we had
17:27free training weeks
17:29we'd be really
17:29pushing him physically
17:30and in the intensity
17:31of his actions
17:34the Premier League
17:34is the quickest
17:35league in the world
17:36statistically
17:37by some distance
17:38so I think
17:39everything then
17:39in your training
17:40has to mirror that
17:41so I still feel
17:41there's a lot of growth
17:42in him
17:43that we haven't
17:43been able to
17:44unlock
17:45in terms of his
17:46sort of playing style
17:47I don't think
17:48we'd be changing
17:49that at all
17:49we love his style
17:51I mean
17:51if you look
17:52what the move
17:53he did for
17:53Jacob Murphy's chance
17:55on Tuesday
17:56was outstanding
17:56and I think
17:57only Nick
17:57could deliver that
17:58he's put through
17:59Murph
17:59one-on-one
18:00and that's
18:00sort of
18:01typifies
18:02his best work
18:02comes from
18:03in between
18:04the lines
18:04in between
18:05the opponent's
18:07midfield
18:07and back four
18:09so whether
18:09he's playing
18:10as a nine
18:10that would be
18:11the same
18:12whether he's
18:12playing as a
18:13ten
18:13stroke eight
18:14that would be
18:14the same
18:15so it would
18:16be a continuation
18:16of that work
18:19just on the
18:20academy
18:20you mentioned
18:21earlier
18:21how much
18:21progress
18:22and change
18:22have you seen
18:23since you came in
18:24and how integral
18:24is it moving forward
18:25to I suppose
18:26be so joined up
18:28I've seen a lot
18:29of change
18:29I think
18:30obviously I'm not
18:31party to that
18:31work every day
18:32we're very much
18:33submersed in what
18:33we're doing here
18:34but look at the
18:36facilities for one
18:36the facilities
18:37have dramatically
18:37improved
18:38and my visits
18:39to the academy
18:39now it's
18:40unrecognisable
18:41from the building
18:42that we first
18:43saw
18:44so that in itself
18:45will of course
18:45help the players
18:46and they're
18:47being now
18:49looked after
18:50I think much
18:50better than
18:51they were
18:52in terms of
18:52all the off-field
18:53things and
18:54psychology
18:54and there's an
18:55array of things
18:56now that have
18:57been improved
18:59of course
18:59they've had
18:59different managers
19:00there with the
19:0223s which has
19:02been a sort of
19:03a little bit
19:03stop start for
19:04them but hopefully
19:05we can get some
19:05continuity for them
19:06in that sense
19:08we need to
19:09expose them to
19:10the best coaching
19:10possible because
19:11for me I'm a big
19:12believer in the
19:13development through
19:14coaching and then
19:16of course they need
19:17opportunity ultimately
19:18but from my side I
19:19can only give
19:20opportunities to
19:21players that I
19:21think are good
19:21enough and it's
19:23raising the level
19:24of player is of
19:25course a long-term
19:26project there
19:29Hi Eddie
19:29given Kieran's
19:31continued importance
19:32would your
19:32preference be to
19:33keep him beyond
19:34this season?
19:35I think his
19:36long-term future
19:36will be something
19:37again that we
19:37discuss I've said
19:38this before but it
19:40won't be sort of
19:41one way it'll be
19:41with Kieran
19:43Kieran's vastly
19:43experienced he knows
19:45what he wants as
19:46well so we'll sit
19:47together and we'll
19:48try and come to the
19:48right conclusion for
19:49everybody
19:49Thank you
19:50Gary to finish
19:51please
19:52Morning Eddie
19:52just looking an
19:53hour or two in the
19:54future obviously with
19:55the draw what
19:56challenge would
19:57Chelsea bring
19:58three games in a
19:59week if you draw
20:00them or on the
20:02other hand
20:02obviously Barcelona
20:04potential trip to
20:05the new camp
20:06that's stuff what
20:07dreams are made of
20:08isn't it really
20:09Yeah we're well
20:10aware of the Chelsea
20:11sort of strange
20:13occurrence really I
20:13mean it's you could
20:15play them three times
20:16in a week but I
20:17don't know we had a
20:18great game against
20:19them here in St.
20:20James' Park we were
20:21disappointed not to
20:21win that game I
20:22thought we were
20:22outstanding so I
20:26really respect them
20:27and of course I've got
20:27a new manager since
20:28that game so a bit of
20:30change that we'd have
20:31to sort of prepare
20:32for the Barcelona game
20:33at home very similar
20:34I thought we deserved
20:35more from the game
20:36I thought we played
20:37very well that would
20:39be that would be a
20:40great tie too so I
20:41think we're in a
20:41great position where
20:42whoever we get is
20:44sort of mouthwatering
20:45for us and a great
20:46thing to look forward
20:47to
20:47Thanks everyone see you
20:48tomorrow
20:48Thank you
