00:00When we meet the road, like you mentioned today that there is going to be a special Congress in July
00:04for the members to decide.
00:06So actually, how was the sentiment among grassroots? Is there a lot of discontent that's why you guys decided to
00:15come out with July as the day to decide where to remain?
00:18It's not discontent by the members that resulted in this July Congress. We need to have, you know, usually like
00:29any other political party, we usually have our convention.
00:33But DAP does not have an annual convention or an annual Congress. Our Congress are conducted usually once in three
00:41years for party election to elect a new Central Executive Committee.
00:45In between the three years, usually we have a national convention once in 18 months. So that is in between
00:54the Congress.
00:55But this year we have decided to bring it forward to July. Instead of September this year, we will bring
01:01it forward to July.
01:02Partly is to review our work and I have made the commitment after the Sabah State election that we will
01:10try to push for faster pace of reform within the government.
01:14And that's very much about our role in the government. So why we bring it to July is that the
01:23six months time frame will be ending in the first half of this year by 38 of June.
01:29Because we talk about that in December. So it says six months, we take a study from January, from a
01:37fresh start of this year.
01:38So we are talking about a mid-year review. So after six months, definitely we need to have a review
01:46and need to evaluate whether or not we have been effective and successful in pushing for the reforms that we
01:54hope for.
01:55So the July Congress or July convention will be a platform for our members to reflect and to review and
02:06to debate about the way forward for the DAP.
02:10So it's not about it's not about that because members are discontent. That's why we call for this special Congress.
02:18That is not the case.
02:19Okay. I have, if you have followed what we have announced since the Sabah State election, this is in line
02:27with that approach and with that commitment that, yes, we accepted the verdict of the people, the verdict of the
02:36Sabah election.
02:37We think that it's a wake-up call for us. We need to reflect. We need to push faster. We
02:45need to implement more. But whether or not this will be effective, it has to be evaluated by our grassroots.
02:52And that's why July is the best time for them to evaluate.
