00:00He's brought to us by Scheiben Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:03He's our guy, Dangerous Daryl Ryder, our Brownspeak reporter.
00:07Hello, D.
00:07Hi, Daryl.
00:09You are the master of the segue, Jeffrey.
00:11Well, you know, you got to tie things together, Daryl.
00:14It's a little art.
00:16It's the only art I have, and it's not good.
00:19How are you?
00:20You trying to say you're not Picasso?
00:22There you go.
00:24All well?
00:25You ready?
00:27I'm standing by.
00:28What you got?
00:29I'm anxious to...
00:30Do you want us to rapid-fire questions at you right now?
00:32You sound like you're standing by.
00:35You're at a brick wall.
00:35I am ready to roll.
00:36Let's go.
00:37You're like at a brick wall, and you're like, I would like a cigarette.
00:40Okay, so let's go ahead and start.
00:41We'll just start with the thing that's been, you know, our topic of conversation for the 15 years we've been
00:46on the air.
00:48Gee, I wonder what that would be.
00:49Todd Munkin and Fearless Leader walked into the room, and he said, you notice he keeps using the word elite,
00:56and so Shadour has shown elite playmaking ability.
01:01Deshaun used to play at an elite level, and Dylan Gabriel was elite in college at three schools, so there's
01:07something there.
01:09What are they telling us about the quarterback when they follow all that up with, but we're really open to
01:14looking outside the organization?
01:15They keep telling us that.
01:17Well, yeah, I mean, obviously they're looking for elite, but they're not convinced that they have elite in the building,
01:25right?
01:26At least present day, you're kind of, I guess with the exception of Shadour, you're talking in past tense, right?
01:35It's been six years since Deshaun Watson's been elite.
01:39He has missed a tremendous amount of games, including two full seasons.
01:45One due to a sit-out, the other due to injuries.
01:50He has missed the bulk of a season due to suspension, and he has missed another chunk of a season
01:59due to a shoulder injury.
02:01So it's been a long, long time since Deshaun Watson has even resembled anything close to being elite,
02:09and every time he has come back, it's like he's seeing ghosts on the field, right?
02:13And then we have to hear about, well, it's going to take some time to, you know, get things going
02:19again and whatnot.
02:20And frankly, I just don't know that the Browns have that kind of time on their hands right now.
02:25Dylan Gabriel, I mean, we all saw the same thing last year.
02:31And then with Shadour, you know, there was as much good as there was bad.
02:39And, you know, obviously he's got a long way to go.
02:43So I don't know that there's an elite quarterback going to be made available to the Browns this offseason.
02:49That doesn't mean that Andrew Berry is not going to be looking for one, as he should.
02:53But it kind of right now stands to reason that the Browns are going to, you know, if they add
02:59an arm,
02:59it's not going to be an elite arm, at least not yet.
03:03And, you know, they might have to choose from what they already have.
03:07So, Darrell, I asked this to Chris Rose.
03:09If the season started tomorrow, who would be your quarterback?
03:13Who would be the starter?
03:14Shadour Sanders.
03:15Don't even have to think about it.
03:17That's funny because the three of us, including Chris Rose, would argue with you and say that we would think
03:20it was Deshaun.
03:22If he's healthy.
03:23If he's healthy and shows, Darrell, that he still has some ability.
03:26Yeah, okay.
03:27Yeah, to me, there's nothing to gain by putting that guy on the field this year.
03:32Again, that's what Dan thinks as well.
03:35It's been six years, people.
03:38And, listen, I'm just trying to be realistic about the situation.
03:42To expect that of him is, in my view, grossly unfair.
03:49To him?
03:50Yeah, yeah, because he, again, it's been six years.
03:54I don't know.
03:54I see his videos.
03:55I see he likes my videos out.
03:57He can be an Instagram football model.
04:00Good for him.
04:00Well, it makes me think he wants to play.
04:03No, of course he wants to play.
04:05Darrell, if I gave you.
04:06You know what, Andy?
04:07I'd like to play, too.
04:08Doesn't mean I'm any good.
04:09Wow.
04:10That's nice.
04:10Darrell, if I gave you a 100-inch TV, okay?
04:13And this is the 100-inch TV.
04:14I already have a 70-inch, so.
04:16Oh, well, excuse us.
04:18I'm going to give you another 30 inches, Darrell.
04:20I don't know if I need the extra 30 inches.
04:22Let's just say I was going to give you a 100-inch TV.
04:25But the technology just didn't work for the first four years.
04:28And now, all of a sudden, it works.
04:31Yeah, I'm not waiting four years for my television to work, Andy.
04:34I'm just saying, would you use it?
04:36No, I'm not waiting four years.
04:38Oh, you would leave a 100-inch TV?
04:39I would have already gotten rid of said TV.
04:41Come on, Darrell.
04:42I would have already gotten rid of the TV.
04:44I'm not waiting four years for something to work.
04:46You needed the technology to catch up.
04:48You needed the broadcast stations to be able to get you the signal you needed.
04:52And now it's there.
04:53Their signal was broken.
04:55Your signal had problems.
04:57Listen, I went through this in the early to mid-2000s with the old conversion to HDTV.
05:01Yes.
05:01I waited until it actually worked.
05:05I didn't want to get ahead of the curve.
05:07If you say you were an ambitious person that wanted to go out there and get that TV before,
05:11it really had to program me.
05:12Yeah, I'm not ambitious.
05:14So you would just throw that TV away.
05:16You would want no return on investment, even though you knew that in that fifth year,
05:21sixth year, seventh year, I can't remember.
05:23Andy, there's no return on investment to be had with Deshaun Watson right now.
05:27People keep saying that.
05:28I think you're wrong.
05:29Those are Andy's words, by the way.
05:31He likes those.
05:32Here's the problem you run into, and it's multifaceted.
05:35Yes.
05:36Yes, okay.
05:36Break it down.
05:38And I'm going to go both avenues.
05:40I'm going to go the positive avenue, and I'm going to go the negative.
05:43Because it's you, I'll go positive first.
05:46Let's say.
05:47And this is how our postgame shows.
05:49Let's say.
05:51Quite the opposite.
05:53Usually they follow losses, so there's not a lot of positive.
05:56Anyway, let's say that Deshaun does some way, somehow, by some miracle, okay,
06:04resemble the player that he was with the Houston Texans, right?
06:07Okay.
06:08If you're the Browns, then what do you do?
06:10Because you are trying to hit the eject button on this contract as quickly as possible.
06:16And the soonest they can do that is March of 2027, when they make him a post-June 1 cut,
06:22right?
06:23The negative to this is, what if he just goes out there and he is the same player he has
06:29pretty much been since getting here,
06:31coming off of the suspension, the shoulder injury, and now we'll see what happens here with the Achilles, right?
06:38The multiple Achilles injuries.
06:40Then now you've wasted time when you have two young players that you're trying to develop, right?
06:49So that's why I just, I don't think anything good comes from investing a whole lot of time in Deshaun
06:57Watson right now.
06:59Okay.
07:00Jeff.
07:02What?
07:04No.
07:04Jeff, your turn.
07:07Andy could not hit the eject button on that fast enough.
07:11I know we're not going to agree, so rather than have a yelling, screaming match on the side, brother, keep
07:16it calm.
07:16I'd rather keep the forward the question to me.
07:19No, I want the conversation just to keep moving forward.
07:21That's all.
07:22There's no reason to do a yell and scream radio, so I can't stand it.
07:27So, hey.
07:27Come on!
07:28We're getting to learn a little bit more about Todd Munkin.
07:32First of all, any guy who makes millions but is going to clean out the $500 left on the Nike
07:38account to buy a jumpsuit.
07:39That was pretty cool.
07:41I'm all for it, Daryl.
07:42He's my kind of guy.
07:44He is my kind of guy.
07:46I'm not going to lie.
07:48He cracked me up.
07:49You know what?
07:50You know who Todd Munkin reminds me of a little bit?
07:54He reminds me of Freddy Kitchens a little bit.
07:57Well, he worked for Freddy.
07:58I know.
07:59I mean, but no, that is...
08:03I really hope that he wore that $500 yesterday at the Combine, too.
08:12I mean, it sure looked like it.
08:13I know.
08:14We're getting to know him a little bit.
08:15What are you thinking?
08:18About?
08:19About him.
08:20I think he's giving a real good glimpse as to what we're going to see as a head coach.
08:27Now, it doesn't matter if they get on the field and he can't coach.
08:30But we're seeing parts of his personality, and he actually says a few things once in a while that give
08:36you some thought.
08:37And I like that.
08:38Yeah, I'm thinking this is going to go either really, really well or really, really bad.
08:42I don't feel like there's going to be an in-between.
08:46Hopefully, it goes really, really well.
08:49You talk to folks that have played for him, worked with him, they have nothing but great things to say
08:59about him.
09:00I'm going to be interested to see how practices are run under him.
09:08I'm interested to see what offense, ultimately, he's going to run, because I don't think any of us have any
09:15idea.
09:16And frankly, I don't know if Todd has been able to drill down on that yet.
09:21I mean, it's been...
09:22Yeah, he doesn't coach a system as much as he coaches what he has, and I like that.
09:25Right, yeah.
09:26And let's be honest about it.
09:28It's been a little bit of a whirlwind, right, from going through the interview process to getting hired, putting the
09:34staff together.
09:36You know, he said yesterday he's got an assistant defensive line coach to hire, and then he'll be done with
09:42that.
09:42And he hopes to have that done by, you know, when they get back to Berea next week.
09:48And also, too, like, there just hasn't been a lot of time for him to sit down and evaluate what's
09:53here, Jeff.
09:54And that's why I say I don't think he knows right now what he's going to do with the offense.
10:01Obviously, he pitched a plan during the interview process, and it is a plan that, you know, they really, really
10:08liked because they hired him.
10:11But, you know, the fact that he just hasn't had the time, really, to take that deep dive into what
10:18he's inheriting here,
10:19and he's probably going to be able to do that once they get back from the combine before free agency.
10:25Because, you know, Andrew Barry, you know, his work is obviously ongoing, not just with preparing for the draft,
10:32but he's preparing for free agency, you know, trying to see what the trade market might look like for certain
10:38guys while in Indianapolis.
10:39Because, listen, these agreements, when the legal tampering window opens in mid-March, right,
10:50and we always get the news that, hey, right away there's all these agreements.
10:53Yeah, a lot of them are, the groundwork is laid at the combine in Indianapolis
10:59because you have front offices, coaching staffs, and all the agents are in one city at one time.
11:08So, there's just a lot of curiosity from my standpoint because right now there's a lot of unknowns with Todd
11:19and what he's going to do or what he wants to do here because, again, I don't know that he's
11:26had a whole lot of time
11:28to sit down and put things together just yet.
11:31Darryl, thank you, buddy.
11:32As always, appreciate your time.
11:34Thanks, Darryl.
11:35Bye-bye, guys.
