00:00This China-Iran deal could have massive ramifications.
00:04Do we know what impact it could have on the current talks happening between the U.S. and Iran?
00:11And is this a way of Iran posturing and having some leverage ahead of those talks?
00:18Well, two little background points on this very interesting story.
00:23First, there is a thing between Iran and the ability to be able to destroy ships at sea.
00:30One of Iran's greatest moments, or what do they believe are the greatest moments,
00:35is when Hezbollah was able in late July 2006 to hit directly a very mighty Israeli ship at sea that
00:46was called Sa'ar.
00:47It was one of the biggest moments of Hezbollah slash Iran.
00:51And just three or four days ago, we heard Khamenei himself saying that America can well bring the biggest ships
00:58in the world
00:59to our surrounding, but they have to keep in mind that maybe we can sink these ships.
01:05And so this is very much in today's psychology.
01:08Now, if China is to give Iran such a strategic leverage at sea, it will be a major shift in
01:17the Gulf deterrence.
01:19It won't be only with the Americans, but with all the other players in the Gulf, most notably the Arabs
01:25and the Saudis,
01:27which, by the way, were directly involved in a rapprochement and appeasement with the Iranians through the Chinese themselves.
01:36Second, we will have a much higher risk to shock points, which is the Hormuz Strait and the Babel-Mendab
01:43Strait,
01:44which were in the last couple of decades the major, you know, conflict points in this region.
01:50And at the same time, it will deepen China's involvement in very hardcore geopolitical terms,
01:58which I don't believe are really going for that right now.
02:02Let's not forget that the Americans, Trump himself, was not very mean with the Chinese.
02:07OK, we have the tariff wars and everything, but on geopolitical terms with the Russians, with the Chinese,
02:13it wasn't an idea about West and East, like we're just saying, there is no more NATO, no more European
02:19Union, nothing.
02:20It's also it's always bilateral and a proxy warfare now in the region.
02:25China getting involved in this won't be very beneficial for Beijing.
02:29But at the same time, if it happens and if really we do believe that these kind of missiles,
02:36if they are to be sold to the Iranians, it's going to be right now, effective now.
02:40It's not that like the American deals, it's going to take years and to be delivered.
02:44So if it happens, it's a big game changer in the region.
02:49And it's going to be a bigger pressure on the Americans to make it as much conclusive as possible very
02:56soon.
