China's Silk Road Maritime network ships over 26 mln TEUs
Transcript
00:05China's Silk Road Maritime Network, a key cargo highway for the Belt and Road Initiative,
00:11is steering global trade into the fast lane by linking continents and powering supply chains.
00:17Recent data shows the speed of its growth. Last year, the shipping network handled more than 5.4
00:23million containers. That's a 9% increase from the year before. Bulk cargo shipments surged even
00:29more dramatically, up over 26%. What began in 2018 with just over a dozen routes has expanded into a
00:37vast global shipping web. It now operates 148 international routes, shipping millions of
00:45containers to 150 ports across 48 countries from Southeast Asia to Europe. Customs officers say
00:53the next goal is to incorporate the sea network even more closely with overland routes.
00:58We are promoting the deep integration of Silk Road Maritime Network with the China-Europe Railway
01:04Express and the Western Land-Sea New Corridor. This will create a multidimensional, multimodal
01:10logistics network to reduce cross-border logistics costs and improve customs clearance efficiency,
01:16thereby injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of the BRI.
01:21In total, data shows more than 26 million containers have been shipped along the Silk Road Maritime
01:27routes since its inception.
01:28We'll see you next time.
