00:00Don't worry, Shingun, we'll get to your ass here in just a bit.
00:03Me and P. Scott were just talking about it.
00:06We definitely will.
00:07We got to.
00:07We absolutely will.
00:08I mean, I know a man Thompson, for some reason,
00:14he's that guy for Clint Sterner.
00:16But I mean, but our friend Shingun has become that one.
00:20Before we get to the Rockets.
00:21Ain't none of them out of the crosshairs, to be clear.
00:23I mean.
00:24Not so happy.
00:25I mean, I guess Clint Capella's all right.
00:28That's my guy right now.
00:29He can't do nothing.
00:31That'll tell you all you need to know.
00:32Tell you, man.
00:33That story, Benny Smith, getting so many minutes.
00:36But before we get to the Rockets, you were down with the Toro District, right?
00:41Yeah, man.
00:42I ain't going to lie to you, but the first thing you said when you walked in,
00:44ooh, it's a little far.
00:45Hey, I told you.
00:46It's a little deep.
00:46The way I described it, I just described it in the break to y'all,
00:50and I'll bring this to the audience, as the end of the earth.
00:55Because that's what it felt like.
00:57I was like, hey, man, I'm just going to keep going and going.
01:01Every time you leave the big city, you hit the suburbs, and it's still not in many high-rises,
01:06but a lot of neighborhoods, a lot of streets, a lot of cars, and then you keep going,
01:09and all of a sudden you get.
01:10Hey, look.
01:11If you're not a man of faith, eventually you're going to have to trust the Lord at some point.
01:15Because God's going to have to be with you for that journey.
01:17That's how long it is, man.
01:19But it's beautiful out there.
01:21What they're clearly doing is trying to create a destination.
01:25A couple of things, actually.
01:27They're trying to get ahead of the curve of what's clearly a growth area in the region,
01:32in the region and specifically in our city, in our county, Harris County.
01:36So get ahead of that.
01:37People are moving out there.
01:38I joke about it being the sticks, and it is the sticks.
01:41But Cypress, the Cypress area, and this is Bridgeland, but this is the Cypress area,
01:45it's always had people out there, but there's always been more space and land and people.
01:50But now that's starting to change a little bit,
01:52and people are moving out there in addition to the people that already lived out there to begin with.
01:56Yeah, yeah.
01:56And so they're trying to get ahead of the curve on that.
01:58On top of that, create a destination for themselves, their own space.
02:03You just kind of talked about today about how they're going to have to move out for a little bit
02:07for the World Cup.
02:08Right, and that's the World Cup.
02:10But we're talking about all kinds of stuff that the county or the rodeo or whatever it is that has
02:14going on at NRG
02:15that kind of compromises their operation a little bit.
02:18Where they're going to get to go out there in kind of paradise land, like I call the edge of
02:22the earth,
02:23out there in Bridgeland and do their own thing.
02:25It's beautiful out there.
02:27A couple of the details that we found out that we didn't know going into it was that
02:32the headquarters and the practice facility itself is just going to be 175,000 square feet of land.
02:38And they're also going to have a field house that's going to house at least a house that will hold
02:44at least 16,000 people.
02:46So, I mean, imagine that.
02:47That's like an arena, right?
02:48That's basically an arena, right?
02:50So they'll do – they could do concerts.
02:52They could do – they mentioned graduations, right?
02:56I mean, high school games, state championship games.
02:59All of that.
02:59All that kind of stuff.
03:01Basically, anything that you could think of that you could put in a 16,000 seat venue is what this
03:08is.
03:08And so I don't think we realized that before we got there.
03:12Mike Tolman, the Texas president, mentioned that.
03:14And then, of course, the 175,000 square foot actual facility.
03:17They're going to have three training fields, NFL fields, which is basically what they have right now at NRG.
03:22And so it kind of gave you a picture of really how large of a space this is and how
03:28– honestly, how little of it the Texans are actually going to be taking up.
03:32This is going to be like an all-out entertainment district because all that other space has got to be
03:37filled up with something, right?
03:39Yeah.
03:39So I'm thinking restaurants, bars.
03:41All of that.
03:41Yeah.
03:41Yeah.
03:42Movie theater maybe.
03:43I mean, pretty much anything you could think of retail-wise.
03:45So it's pretty cool.
03:47I think another cool part of it is – and again, being a girl dad, maybe it's a little cooler
03:52to me than it is to folks that ain't got little girls.
03:54But the Hannah McNair girls flag – like the emphasis that they're putting on these different sports, which are female
04:01sports, with Hannah's involvement, is pretty cool.
04:03I think it's going to be represented out there, isn't it?
04:04You're going to have flag football fields.
04:06I think they said at least – you're going to have at least one, maybe a couple of flag football
04:11fields out there.
04:12But in addition to that, though, to your point about women's sports, girls and women's sports, they're going to have
04:17some space for the volleyball team as well.
04:19You know, they just bought the volleyball squad as well, you know, several months back.
04:23And that's going to be a big part of what they do there as well.
04:26So you're talking volleyball, flag football, a bunch of actual football space, their headquarters, retail development, right?
04:36And if you go out there right now, man, it's just grass, man.
04:40It's just, you know, the weeds out there.
04:42But you see all of this land and all of this potential and all of this vision that it can
04:47be.
04:47So it's an exciting time for them and an exciting time for the people that live out there in that
04:51area.
04:51B. Scott, I was talking about this earlier.
04:53I think they've done – the organization has done an unbelievable job with the logos.
04:57Yeah.
04:57I think you reposted it when I saw it.
05:00But the Toro district with the three bulls, you know, the one facing head on the one each direction, I
05:05mean, that is strong.
05:06I mean, just in the big – you know, a lot of people, and it's crazy, a lot of people,
05:09and I'm particular, but I always stop and look at the details.
05:12A lot of people screw that up.
05:13Well, the thing about it with the Texans specifically for me, Clint, kind of to the point you're making, is
05:18that they have kind of struggled with, like, style and swag.
05:23Like, it's just been a sort of a planned operation for a long time.
05:27And now you're looking up and there's excitement, right?
05:29They change the uniforms.
05:30They invite and involve the community in that process, right?
05:34And so now the – for better and or worse, whatever the product is, it's something that we all kind
05:38of felt like we put in on.
05:40And now you're looking at this, right?
05:41They're kind of picking an area of the community that they want to make their home and having a whole
05:47new logo for that, right?
05:49So, yeah, man, I think they're doing a really good job with not just some of the strategic moves that
05:54they're doing, but the imagery of it as well.
05:56Let's get to these damn Rockets.
05:58Well, they look off, especially against good teams.
06:01They beat the brakes off of the Jazz, and I'm certain they will beat the brakes off the Kings, who
06:07just broke their 16-game losing streak.
06:09You're certain?
06:10Yeah.
06:11They beat the hell out of bad teams.
06:13They do that pretty well.
06:14They've also lost to the Kings.
06:16Okay, all right.
06:17They lost to the Pelicans.
06:18Listen, they're third in the West with the strength of themselves being – they may be fourth, depending on what
06:24happened yesterday.
06:25But they're third with the strength of beating the brakes off of these bad teams.
06:28If you had to point the finger, and I don't mean to lead the guests, but if you had to
06:33point the finger on the thing that you are most concerned about right now with why this team doesn't look
06:40the way that we thought they would be, is it Shingun?
06:44Is it – Yudoka, where is it?
06:46Where is it live?
06:47What is it live for you?
06:48Yeah, I mean, it's the offense, right?
06:50And so that would include everybody that you just mentioned, right?
06:52Alperen Shingun is their all-star.
06:54They're now two-time all-star.
06:5616 a game.
06:57You know, they're a young star at that, right?
07:00Kevin Durant, we understand what that is, but this is their homegrown star, if you will.
07:05Yudoka is not only the head coach, but the culture setter, the tone setter for the entire organization, at least
07:12in my opinion.
07:13And then, you know, he's responsible ultimately as the head coach for what the offensive product is, whether he's a
07:19defensive-minded coach or not.
07:21Whether he has his ideal pick at point guard, his veteran point guard, or not, it is still your job
07:27to go out there and produce a credible offense or at least show signs of it, right?
07:32Show any kind of inclination of a plan, right?
07:36Or any kind of signs of a plan.
07:37They had 27 turnovers.
07:39And here's what I – and this is exactly what I was going to get to is the turnovers.
07:42You have a season-high in turnovers, and you do that against a team in the Utah Jazz –
07:48They are trying to lose.
07:49That are trying to lose.
07:52Don't pressure the ball.
07:53And so they're not even really forcing these turnovers on you, right?
07:57It's not like you're going up against the Thunder or the Pacers.
08:02Spurs, yeah.
08:02Or the Spurs.
08:03All right, that's a good one.
08:04The Spurs.
08:05Somebody that's really going to – yeah, you're out there against Ace Bailey.
08:11Love was doing work.
08:12I mean, Kevin Love, I forgot.
08:14I didn't know K-Love was evening at home.
08:14I forgot until I saw him.
08:16And this happens almost every year now.
08:18The Jazz come around or whoever he's on that year.
08:20It's like, oh, there's Kevin Love.
08:22You know, just kind of dusting away.
08:25But, like, that to me just can't happen.
08:27And so it's the – to me it's the turnovers.
08:30Like, specifically we could point to the turnovers in these last two games, right?
08:33They win the game against the Jazz because it's the Jazz and they're not trying.
08:36But turnovers were the story of Sunday against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden, right?
08:42Or the reason why they lost that game because the offense fell apart.
08:46They didn't have a plan and they started turning the ball over late in that game.
08:50And, of course, Jalen Brunson was really good and all of that.
08:52But it's a problem night in, night out of the offensive, not just identity, but purpose and what it is
09:03that they're even trying to do.
09:05From schematically to personnel-wise to execution, all of it is bad.
09:12What do you think – we talked a little earlier about Jabari, obviously, appearing to play a bigger role the
09:18last handful of games.
09:19And, I mean, do you think that is – is that – because, I mean, I'm picking up what you're
09:24saying.
09:24It's like I'm just waiting for something to happen that's different that – whether it works or not is irrelevant,
09:30just something that's a little bit different.
09:32It looks like – I don't know if it's intentional or just by chance, but it looks like Jabari getting
09:39more touches,
09:39Jabari getting more aggressive, and Jabari being a bigger part of the offensive production.
09:43What do you make of that?
09:45Well, see, Jabari is a bright spot and has been a bright spot in a lot of these games.
09:49It's where they've kind of gone out there and laid an egg, right, or in this rough stretch that we're
09:53talking about, right?
09:54Like Jabari Smith over the last month or so has been playing some of his best basketball.
09:59I'd say the most previous game or most recent game against the Jazz was his best two-way game that
10:04he's played his entire career.
10:05And this is all after he had the worst month of his career right before that.
10:10So the fact of the matter is they're not going to be able to win with him playing poorly.
10:15So he has to play well for them to win, but here they are, not even able to take advantage
10:20of that, right?
10:21You got one of your guys that is tasked with making shots and making plays off of double teams
10:26and off of the commotion that you draw between Kevin Durant and Alperen Shingun.
10:30He's playing well, but just everything else around it is clunky.
10:36Like, shout out to him, right?
10:37Like, he had – I mean, he basically was carrying them in that first half against the Jazz,
10:41and he's been playing well, but you kind of need both things to happen.
10:46You can't afford to, like, be whatever it is that you are with Jabari playing poorly,
10:51and you can't afford to have Jabari playing his career, the best ball of his career,
10:55but everybody else, Alperen Shingun, for example, your all-star who was playing at an all-NBA level
10:59to start the season is anything but that at this point.
11:02So it all has to come together, and it has not so far.
11:05Real quick, we've got about 30.
11:07Have you seen any major adjustments since the all-star break?
11:11Have you seen anything from this?
11:13No.
11:13Do they look like they've been doing the same thing they've been doing?
11:15It – I would say no.
11:17Like, some of the major stuff that happens is now that you've had injuries, right?
11:21A man is out now.
11:22You lost Tate.
11:23So, like, the other night, we saw Josh Okogie hit the court before Reese Shepard, right?
11:30And so, like, to kind of to your point, I'm seeing a lot of the same head-scratching stuff, I
11:35would say.
11:36Like, different stuff, but similarly head-scratching stuff.
11:39All right, that's B. Scott.
11:40Shout-out to him.
11:41Gave us a little Texans and Rockets report today.
11:44Good to hear from him.
11:45Every single Wednesday, 440, that's our guy, Brandon Scott.
11:49Good to hear from you.
