00:00It's Benzinga bringing Wall Street to Main Street.
00:02Discord said it is postponing the global rollout of its age verification policy to the second half
00:07of 2026 after user backlash over privacy concerns, according to AP. Discord's chief
00:13technology officer and co-founder Stanislav Vyshnovsky said the company missed the mark
00:18and acknowledged user concerns that the policy could appear to justify invasive data collection.
00:24The company had planned a March rollout that included face scanning or ID uploads for users
00:29whose ages it could not determine. Users cited a recent breach at a third-party vendor that
00:34exposed government ID photos of up to 70,000 users. Vyshnovsky said Discord no longer works
00:39with that vendor and requires strict security and deletion standards for data submitted for
00:44age verification. Discord said it will publish a detailed explanation of its automatic age
00:49determination systems and list all verification vendors and their practices on its website.
