A dad who loves attending car shows but had to stop after his cancer diagnosis was left stunned when his friends and family brought a car show to him. John "Wowie" Perreira, 59, from Watsonville, California, loves car shows so much that days out had become a tradition in the family. Wowie has always been the glue that holds the family together, and over the years he’d take his six kids to attend lowrider car shows across the west coast. In his younger years, Wowie had an iconic Chevrolet Impala he worked on, before giving up his hobby buying cars after having kids. But now his children were older - and attending car shows with him – Wowie purchased a Cadillac that he was hoping to start working on, only to receive devastating news in 2023. Having been diagnosed with lung cancer, Wowie was advised to put the build on hold as he underwent a year and a half of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, his daughter Melissa said. The family thought Wowie was making progress, but in 2025 they were informed that his cancer had spread and there was nothing more treatment could do and he is now on hospice care. Knowing how much car shows used to brighten Wowie's days, Melissa and her siblings were hoping to take their father to a show once more, but accepted that his condition was so bad that he couldn't go. They instead reached out to Wowie's best friend, Maurice, who is in a car club, and asked if there was any way he could help bring a show to their father.

00:00He just looks so happy. You could tell he had a little bit of life in him again. The most
00:04special
00:04thing is just seeing that spark come back. My dad has always loved classic cars. That was always
00:10his thing, but he had all of us to think about, so he always kind of put that on the
00:13back burner.
00:14He got diagnosed with cancer about three years ago. Now he is on hospice, so it's something just
00:20hard to see, and he's just fighting day by day. We wanted just to bring him a little bit of
00:24happiness back, but within a week or so, his condition changed pretty rapidly, so that's why
00:29we're like, hey, let's do a car show. One of his friends was in a biker club, so we kind
00:35of reached out to him, and he put it together for us. He said, you know, we have a few
00:40cars,
00:40but honestly, the day came, and it was so much more than that, and it was so amazing to see.
00:47About 20 cars came, and about maybe 10 motorcycles. There was probably about 60 to 70 people altogether.
00:55He said he was so overwhelmed with joy, and for him, it was something so special. He was so grateful.
01:02He had a lot of tears in his eyes. Truly cherish the times you have, because you never know. Life
01:07is so short, so just always be there and make these moments worth it.
