00:00Presenting to you, the President of the United States.
00:04The economy and tariffs.
00:06These were the focuses of U.S. President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address in his second term.
00:13Trump used the speech to sell the economy as Republicans tried to address American voters' mounting concerns
00:19about the rising cost of living ahead of midterm elections this year.
00:23Trump also ripped into the Supreme Court, which ruled his Liberation Day tariffs illegal.
00:30Trump says he will persist with the tariffs using other legal means.
00:34He says that most countries will keep their trade agreements with the U.S. despite the court's ruling.
00:40But the good news is that almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that they already made.
00:48Right, Scott?
00:49Knowing that the legal power that I, as President, have to make a new deal could be far worse for
00:56them
00:57and therefore they will continue to work along the same successful path
01:01that we had negotiated before the Supreme Court's unfortunate involvement.
01:08Some Americans blame Trump's tariffs for higher prices of consumer goods.
01:13He pointed to economic policies meant to address issues such as health care, housing, and electricity,
01:19keeping with the affordability focus of his speech.
01:25After focusing on domestic issues, Trump touched briefly on foreign policy.
01:30He touted the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and called out Iran's nuclear weapons program
01:36as a massive U.S. military buildup is on standby in the region.
01:41On the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion, Trump also spoke about the war in Ukraine,
01:46a conflict he said on the campaign trail that he would solve within 24 hours of taking office.
01:52And we're working very hard to end the Ninth War, the killing and slaughter between Russia and Ukraine,
01:59where 25,000 soldiers are dying each and every month.
02:03Think of that, 25,000 soldiers are dying a month.
02:08Trump also traded barbs with some Democratic representatives,
02:13who were protesting his crackdown on immigration and other policies.
02:17With deep divides in the U.S. over a range of issues,
02:21the looming midterms will be pivotal in deciding America's direction.
