In his 2026 State of the Union address, US President Donald Trump used the speech to sell Americans on the economy. It comes as Republicans try to address voters’ mounting concerns about the rising cost of living ahead of midterm elections this year.

00:06These were the focuses of U.S. President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address in his second term.
00:13Trump used the speech to sell the economy as Republicans tried to address American voters' mounting concerns
00:19about the rising cost of living ahead of midterm elections this year.
00:23Trump also ripped into the Supreme Court, which ruled his Liberation Day tariffs illegal.
00:30Trump says he will persist with the tariffs using other legal means.
00:34He says that most countries will keep their trade agreements with the U.S. despite the court's ruling.
00:40But the good news is that almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that they already made.

00:49Knowing that the legal power that I, as President, have to make a new deal could be far worse for

00:57and therefore they will continue to work along the same successful path
01:01that we had negotiated before the Supreme Court's unfortunate involvement.
01:08Some Americans blame Trump's tariffs for higher prices of consumer goods.
01:13He pointed to economic policies meant to address issues such as health care, housing, and electricity,
01:19keeping with the affordability focus of his speech.
01:25After focusing on domestic issues, Trump touched briefly on foreign policy.
01:30He touted the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and called out Iran's nuclear weapons program
01:36as a massive U.S. military buildup is on standby in the region.
01:41On the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion, Trump also spoke about the war in Ukraine,
01:46a conflict he said on the campaign trail that he would solve within 24 hours of taking office.
01:52And we're working very hard to end the Ninth War, the killing and slaughter between Russia and Ukraine,
01:59where 25,000 soldiers are dying each and every month.

02:08Trump also traded barbs with some Democratic representatives,
02:13who were protesting his crackdown on immigration and other policies.
