00:01Evening, everyone. We'll start with Dave.
00:04Hi, Harry. Can you sum that one up for us?
00:09I'm just glad we won, to be honest.
00:11He got a little bit nervy at the end there, but no, I'm pretty happy.
00:16Just on your own innings, how do you reflect on that?
00:20It's Baz. Baz is the mastermind there.
00:22He had a discussion with me this morning about going up the order
00:24and trying to maximise the power play, and thankfully it paid off.
00:29What was the reason? What was his thinking behind moving you up?
00:32I think partly because of my past history against Pakistan,
00:36but like I said, to try and maximise the power play
00:39and put them under pressure early on.
00:40I know we were losing wickets, but my job was still to try to go out there
00:43and put them under pressure throughout.
00:45Obviously, you must be delighted with it.
00:47Are you going to stay at number three for the rest of the tournament, do you think?
00:49I don't know. That's something for me and Baz to chat about.
00:54The longer I bat, the better it is for me.
00:57It's a lot easier coming in when you've...
00:59Well, it's a lot easier facing their best bowlers
01:01through the middle period when you're already set.
01:05We've got Richard and then Matt and then Fidel.
01:08From a personal point of view, how much did you enjoy the innings?
01:11Obviously, the 165 chase wasn't easy at times,
01:16especially with the loss of the early wickets,
01:17but you sort of kept going. How much did you enjoy the ball striking tonight?
01:20Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
01:22It was always a lot of fun scoring runs
01:24and it's a shame we just can't do it every time.
01:27And you sort of limped, I guess.
01:28We talked about the progress in this tournament,
01:30but you're the first team into the semi-finals.
01:32That's an achievement in itself.
01:34Yeah, and that's the main aim.
01:35That's one of the reasons why we came here.
01:37We want to try and go all the way.
01:38But like I've said a few times now, our main focus now is on New Zealand.
01:42We'll reflect on this game and enjoy tonight and the next couple of days.
01:46But we've still got another game against a very strong outfit in Colombo
01:49who are against New Zealand.
01:51So our main message, as always, is stay in the moment as much as you can.
01:56Can you just sort of talk us through your emotions
01:58in that sort of last five or ten minutes of the innings after you got out?
02:01It was a bit of an early one.
02:03Yeah, I thought it was going to be another oval against India,
02:06but thankfully we managed to get over the line
02:08and drop it at that boundary at the end.
02:10But yeah, it did get a little bit nervy there.
02:12And like I said, thankfully we got the win.
02:18Harry, you mentioned the oval and I think Michael Vaughan said this week
02:21that you've maybe played some brilliant innings for England,
02:24but not necessarily like the big match-winning ones in the really biggest games.
02:28Is that fair and are you pleased to put that behind you, if so?
02:33That wasn't even on my radar, to be honest.
02:35I just go out there and try and win games of cricket for England
02:38and whichever team I'm playing for.
02:40And thankfully I've managed to do that tonight.
02:43And we've got the main aim, which was to get through to the semis.
02:47And after everything that's gone on this winter,
02:49if not today in general or like across the tournament at all,
02:54are you more motivated to really push it as a captain and as a leader
02:58to play those sort of cliché captain knocks?
03:01Yeah, it's probably been the hardest winter of my life, to be honest.
03:05There's been a lot of stuff behind the scenes.
03:09Well, not behind the scenes, but you know.
03:12And yeah, it's just nice to see some rewards from a hard work away from the ground.
03:20Harry, it was a 50 ball 100, but you ran nine twos tonight.
03:24Tell us a little bit about that period of the game and what you were thinking.
03:27As you saw in our field in the innings, it was tough to field on there with the bobble.
03:32And the outfield was actually really hard, so it was bobbling quite a lot.
03:36And thankfully I lost a little bit of weight a couple of years ago
03:39because I wouldn't have been able to run all them twos before.
03:41But no, we were just trying to put pressure on their field as much as possible.
03:46And that's something we've spoken about for the last few months.
03:50Harry, did you know that England are the first team to win,
03:54rather make the semis of the men's T20 World Cup five successive times?
03:58So what does this mean as an England unit over the years?
04:03And what does this mean for this unit and the journey of this team?
04:08I don't know. It's just cricket, isn't it?
04:11We're winning games. We're not winning them perfectly,
04:13but thankfully we are winning games.
04:16And like I said before, we haven't had the perfect game yet.
04:19And hopefully that's just around the corner with our main players firing.
04:23And yeah, like I said a second ago,
04:25we've just got to try and stay in the moment as much as possible
04:27and not focus on the semi-final now
04:29because we've still got another game against New Zealand,
04:31who are a very strong side and playing well as well.
04:36Was there a point as England were losing wickets early in the innings
04:39where you kind of thought, well, this is all on me now?
04:42And if so, does that kind of thought like excite you?
04:47I do like pressure situations, but I had full faith in Sam Curran and Will Jacks.
04:53Will Jacks has had an amazing tournament so far.
04:56He slid into that number seven role and really well.
04:59He's been he's been phenomenal to have three man of the matches already is awesome.
05:03So I had full faith in them guys.
05:04And then obviously Jamie Overton, who can smack the ball miles at the end.
05:08It didn't come off tonight, but I knew that there was going to be a few lads
05:12that could stick around with me and anchor the role with me.
05:16And there were a few mistakes in the field from both sides,
05:19but you dropped to catch yourself and you looked pretty annoyed with yourself when you did.
05:23Did that add further kind of fuel motivation for you when you came out?
05:28No, I just I hate dropping catches and I don't drop many.
05:31So I was pretty annoyed with that.
05:32But no, that didn't really have a difference to me.
05:36I knew that the chase was always going to be a little bit tricky.
05:38But yeah, thankfully, we got a few partnerships in there.
05:41Did you feel it felt like England gave a few runs away in the field?
05:46But were you happy with the target you were chasing?
05:49Yeah, me and Salty actually had a conversation before we went out.
05:54Yeah, just before we went out, he said that they were under par and I agreed.
05:58And it did get a little bit dewy, so it was sliding on a little bit better.
06:01It wasn't holding in the pitch as much.
06:03But yeah, we were confident going out there.
06:08Hi, Harry. Is that the best whiteboard innings you've ever played in your life?
06:13I've been asked that about three times already.
06:15I absolutely think I preferred the Sri Lanka ODI, to be honest.
06:20But no, that's certainly up there in the context of the game
06:23and the situation that we found ourselves.
06:25And in terms of kind of batting at five before,
06:27did you sometimes feel you weren't getting as many balls as you would like?
06:30And also it can be tricky to start against spin and stuff?
06:33I just try and slide into what the team thinks is the best role for me to play.
06:38And Baz, like I said, Baz came up to me this morning and said,
06:41look, why don't we just try you at three and try and maximise the power play?
06:45And thankfully I got off to a good start.
06:47And like I said before, it's a lot easier facing their main threat bowlers
06:51when you're on 30 or 40 rather than starting against them.
06:54And is the form of Joss a concern at all and any kind of message for him?
06:57No, he's, like I said, plenty of times.
07:01He's a powerhouse of world cricket.
07:02He's done it on every stage.
07:04He's won World Cups in ODIs and T20s.
07:07And it's just a matter of time.
07:11I was also going to ask about Joss.
07:13I mean, I know these things happen, but he does look,
07:16even by his own sense, he looks pretty disconsolate.
07:19Is he OK?
07:20What does that word mean?
07:22Unhappy.
07:24And would you seriously consider maybe dropping him to three or whatever?
07:27Could you move the order around, maybe even open yourself?
07:31I think people have got to give him a little bit of,
07:35cut him a little bit of slack, to be honest.
07:37I think the things that he's done in world cricket has been phenomenal.
07:40He's played over 500 T20s.
07:42He's played 150-odd for England,
07:43and he's still averaging 35 striking at 145.
07:47So, yeah, he's arguably our best player,
07:51and he's just not hitting them out of the middle at the minute.
07:54But, yeah, I feel like people have probably got to cut him a little bit of slack.
07:58Last one on the back, please.
08:00Harry, you have played with Shaheen Afridi.
08:02How difficult was, and challenging, to play with him?
08:04Because he was very superb today, the way he bowled his first spell.
08:09And the strike rate, how difficult was for you to keep the strike rate above eight?
08:14Because you guys have lost three wickets earlier.
08:17Sorry, who was the bowler, you said?
08:18Shaheen Afridi.
08:19Because you have played Shaheen Afridi in the whole calendars.
08:21Yeah.
08:21Was it a little bit easy to face him, or it was challenging today,
08:25because Shaheen played some phenomenal cricket?
08:27No, he bowled very nicely up top.
08:29To take two wickets up top, it always puts the team on the back foot.
08:34And thankfully, we did that to them with Joff as well.
08:36And, yeah, he looked like he was bowing well.
08:38And, yeah, he got the rewards for his hard work.
08:43Okay, well done, thank you.
